2000 Château d'Angludet

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend more

Deep ruby in colour! Nearly purple! Pop and pour! This is amazing! Nose of strong black currant flavor an a hint of red fruits in between! After breathing for twenty minutes, it slowly becoming more mineral but still very dark fruits driven! Smooth thick palate, almost meaty texture! Mouthful of dark fruits, minerals and a little bubble gum finish! Very impressive if I'm honest! Again from a remarkable vintage in the Bordeaux region! Singing right now but still can keep for another five years very very easily or possibly longer!

Nice medium body Bordeaux. Black berry fruits and cedar notes on the finish.

2000 Château Léoville Barton

Nothing like as I expected. Tannins very green and slightly sour. Not sure that it will grow out this problem. Drank a Tour de By 2000 at the same time which a lot more enjoyable though it faded after 3 hours.

8/30/2015 9:18:00 AM - I'm not sure that time will cure the problem. Drank the first Brane Cantenac 2000 last night which had a touch of it too, but not enough to overpower the fruit in the way that is happening with the Leoville Barton

2007 Patrick Lesec Costières-de-Nîmes Vieilles Vignes

Red Rhone Blend more

Perfumed nose of violets, a lot of barnyard and smoke and a little raisiny and sour on the finish. Good acidity and tannins come through although not immediately. Powerful yet elegant. Definitely has character. Last bottle was more refined and less barnyardy.

Wine is a nice straw color. On the nose, is cut grass. Some sweetness of peach and nectarine. This is a fully body wine with a full mouth feel. Sharp notes of mineral and finish of dry oak and slight toasted butter.

I have not liked most all the Bordeaux wines I have consumed, although relative to other wines I haven't many of them and none have been high on the classification list. But I bought a case of 2005s to give them a try as the folks at K&L (and many other places) raved about them. Well, now after a few years of aging I can now say that I'm a fan. Although not from a top-notch chateau, this wine has the fruit of a mellow CA Cab yet the complexity and "good funk" that I was looking for.

6/22/2014 7:50:00 AM - It is precisely the CA Cab aspect that made me sell this wine. I have nothing against California wine, but I bought this expecting a Bordeaux character, which is completely missing. If I had wanted California I would have bought some, not this. Very sad that a well made wine in the past has gone to become so characterless.

2001 R. López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Tondonia

Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more

I'm surprised at all the positive notes. I was promised great things for this and this bottle was very disappointing. Thin, sharply acidic, not a lot of fruit and no length. Vinegary strawberries with a farmyard element. Unpleasant.
I tasted it when opened, decanted and kept struggling on tasting at intervals for 5 hours with no improvement.

1/9/2014 2:45:00 PM - I spoke to the merchant who sold it to me and am going to try another bottle. It reminded my of the Ygay 87 and 94 that was sold to me as the greatest thing ever and every bottle (three left) was taste and down the drain. One more chance!
