2005 Chateau Musar

Bekaa Valley Red Blend more

This bottle needs to be decanted for at least 1 to 2 hours. Before the air, it is closed and too much bitterness, after the air it shows it full power of taste and great aftertaste. I wonder if this wine still will improve. Does anyone know?

This bottling of Levendi has seen its best days in past years. Vegetal upon opening. Strong pepper on the finish. Yet still smooth, oaky, Napa elegance. Lesson learned: Drink a wine in its prime, not near the end of its life.

8/28/2014 2:48:00 PM - How was the wine stored? E.g., cellared at 55 degrees since release versus room temperature?

8/28/2014 5:18:00 PM - I didn't mean to suggest that your tasting note was anything but accurate (or that you did not accurately forecast the end of this wine's drinking window). Just making sure I understand the storage conditions associated with your note, which do vary from user to user. Cheers. :)

Traditional style cab. Nothing special here but really nice and consistent. Fairly deep/complex fruit, smooth, and great finish. Decanted for two hours and drank over another two. Improved with time.

this did not age well. the fruit is stewed..almost vinegar at this point. it was stored in perfect conditions. I opened the 2004 and it was much better.

Quite a bad showing. After drinking a bit I took a look in some of the wine discussion forums. Here I found the confirmation: There seems to be quite some bottle variation in 2009.

And I also realized some kind of sparkling, which is mentioned as well.

It is sad to have such a young wine with the missing quality. With older wines you can blame it on bad cellaring.

I will not move forward buying / drinking pegau, though it is favored by a lot of people out here. But at this price tag I want consistent quality (at least for the young wines).

Usually I like this wine, but this bottle was off. Wasn't getting the typical balance of fruit and earth. There was some slight effervescent action going on that never went away.

I found this to be full of VA. Some others were not as bothered by it. Is being tested by a lab to see what the level actually is.

I'm still struggling to reconcile my impressions with the tasting notes of others. No disrespect intended but I am missing something. Searching for fruit, all I sense is wood with a halo of ethanol ester. There is a sharp burn on the finish which can't ever possibly be described as classical.

In a not so fair competition, I just opened a 1990 Cos D'Estournel -- picture a petite ballerina in your mouth with velvet slippers sliding down your throat. This is classic Bordeaux at its finest.

Dark concentrated, inky, too much oak/vanilla, artificial burnt plastic taste. Cannot understand the interest behind this wine. Unfortunate that I have to drink 2 more bottles. I do not think age will improve this bottle. Poor QPR

  • Comment posted by StainedGlass:

8/26/2010 8:48:00 PM - You should sell or trade your 2 remaining bottles. What is the point of drinking expensive wine you don't like? There is a secondary market for wines. Even better, I've traded out wines I personally don't like with friends who have wines I do like and who might appereciate a wine that is popular but that I don't like. Well-stored wines with a little age have even more appeal.
