Decanted for 3.5 hours. Aromas of blueberry, cherry, kirsch liquor, iron and chocolate Grenache. Flavors of blueberry, raspberry, cherry, iron and coffee. Ends with a 40 second finish with raspberry notes. Needs some more time to open up. Will update.

Update: started to shut down around the 5 hour mark for some reason. Saved the rest and had on day 2. More open for business for sure with smoother tannins and more pronounced fruit.

The wine was corked!! So, so sad... underneath the wet paper bag, you can tell that the palate is seamless. What a travesty.

12/22/2017 11:03:00 AM - I had a corked SQN years ago. M&E couldn't believe it since they apparently test each and every cork. I sent the bottle back and sure enough, they agreed it was tainted.
Their attention to detail is tremendous but I suspect even that level of diligence isn't enough to catch everything.
I'd let them know....they are 6 sigma kind of people.

Pop and pour and drank within an hour and a half. An aromatic nose that is dominated by black licorice and sage along with barnyard, leather, tobacco and truffle notes that lead way to a concentrated yet beautifully proportioned wine oozing of dark plum and mineral flavors which turn spicy on the finish. This is a dynamite 2007 Ch9 offering and one where the last glass was the best.

Big aromas of black cherry, blueberry, red cherry, herbs, earth, smoke, leather, graphite, and barrel notes. Blackberry, tart cherry, sweet cherry, plum jam, spices, earth, and some herbs on the palate. Terrific mouthwatering acidity, integrated but still apparent sweet tannins, supple body. I was surprised by this wine. I was expecting something closer to a fruit bomb, but this was a lot more fresh and elegant than I was anticipating. The streak of acidity gives it a sweet and juicy personality that is very delicious.

11/24/2013 1:16:00 PM - Concur with RMH66's tasting note. This wine surprised the heck out of us on 11/23/13. A left over from chasing Aussie wines when I was first getting into this. I expected the over-extracted fruity alcoholic mess coupled with a strong green steak that I seemed to remember finding in Aussie Cabs from that period.. I rated it a solid 94 points.
