Amazing! This was WOTN and blew away the 1990 Chateau Latour that preceded it in the tasting progression. So much character, yet not overly spicy or stout.

High Altitude Vineyards (Plus Private Dinner at restaurant García de la Navarra) (Vila Viniteca - Madrid): Obscure colour with violet edges.
Quite floral nose. Notes of pencil savings and crude carob bean.
Too much wood at this point but elegant although lacks that power and complexity of Altamira that I admire the most.
Extremely young on the palate, fresh and very persistent. Fine acidity with some diluted tannins.

Historical Bodegas Bilbainas Tasting Event (plus dinner at La Piperna) (Bodega Santa Cecilia - Madrid): Terrific champagne. Class in the glass. Sexy and seductive. I fell in love with that meringue note. Pure lush and opulence keeping on balance and elegance.
Nose is a winner here but palate is consistent and quite long.
Easy WOTN. Second time I meet this and always delicious.

Un champán terrorífico. Da auténtica clase a la copa. Sexy y seductivo. Me he enamorado de esa nota a merengue. Pura exuberancia y opulencia manteniendo equilibrio y elegancia.

At a tasting. A controversial wine. Surprisingly young, deep, still red. Not classic Rioja. Yet! Already a great wine but hard to evaluate the future development. Seems in new style of fruit but was this intentional or just the result of a great vintage. Will it ever be like La Rioja Alta or develop as claret?
For those young enough one to buy and keep. A bargain at $25. Drink till 2030 and beyond if properly stored.

This wine had another decade ahead of it. The fruit was still very prominent and it improved during the evening. Nice dark fruit aromas, good fruit complexity on the palate with the oak still showing in the background. Smooth finish with good length and acidity.
Would buy again.

Closer to Jimmy's view than MiB's excepting for that poor score (What's wrong with 86? After all you liked it), I could recognise the typicity for its smokiness and I only paid 3€.
Unbeatable RQP.
Really effective, uncomplicated PN matching rice with chicken on middle spiced curry sauce.

Ripe fruit of plums and red berries on the nose, spices, hint of vanilla, classic profile for a young Rioja Reserva, good depth; the palate is harmonious and well-balanced, elegant and transparent but with some velvety flesh too, medium body, nice stuffing of juicy fruit, smooth and polished, gentle tannins, clean flavours; complete finish, good length. Seems to have the energy and balance for a long life - until 2025? In the bar at Hotel Maria Cristina, San Sebastian, Spain.

Little warm Ribeiro, a bit over the hill, less pungent as usual, sweetie even, watery texture, Xarel.lo-like, definitively Mediterranean rather than Atlantic.
A curiosity to be discovered.

When I Feel Heavy Metal Private Dinner (Restaurant La Piperna - Madrid): What a white wine! In a blind taste you'd think this is an old Burundian Chardonnay: buttery, honeyed, suave, silky, mineral, floral on the nose but at the same time multilayered on the palate. Quite delicious. Still firm enough to face another decade or two.
In my view a well-aged Rioja, whites included, provides one of the greatest pleasures that life has to offer.
I'm really proud of Murrieta. Believe me if you don't know this probably you're missing something good. My WOTN among whites.

¡Menudo vino blanco!

Drank stand alone after dinner. I usually drink my Clio young so this was new territory for me...not having any experience with aged mourvedre. The fruit has definitely taken a step back so it's tough to judge this objectively because I was expecting fruit-driven Clio with a tinge of cab complexity on it and this isn't that anymore. But if you have experience with and desire for older Clio...it's there now.

Excellent harmony, soft & round integrated tannins, still a pleasant amount of ripe fruitiness, coated with a thick layer of chocolate, silky mature sensation with subtle notes of spices and delicate wood. Long finish of a great Ribera wine, a full bodied wine that is, still, in great shape and is very much enjoyable. Can further age 5-10 years.

Very sweet bouquet with ripe red as well as black forest fruits. On the palate juicy fruits and firm acidity. A lot of oak. Still very youthful. The majority thought this was almost mind blowing, but I was a little less enthusiastic. Ok a very good wine, but all the pieces, especially the oak, still have to fall in its proper place. 91(++?) for tonight.
