Decanted for over 3+ hours. Medium crimson-garnet in colour. Nose of ripe red berries, plums, touch of beef blood, and a hint of florals. On the palate, there are cassis with tart red berries and plums, complimented by spicy black peppers and bits of dark green herbs. Medium bodied with a medium+ finish; acidity is noticed. Opened for the final episode of "Better Call Saul"(unfortunately, I do not have a Cote Rotie to drink unlike Gus Fring).

Pnp. Deep ruby-purple in colour. Nose of dark plums, dark cherry compote, with hints of garrigue and blackberries. On the palate, a somewhat peppery blackberry profile is noticed along with some dark jammy fruit, a touch of tobacco, and dark herbs. Medium bodied with a medium finish. This latest version is 2/3 2019 vintage and 1/3 previous vintages.

9/5/2022 8:50:00 AM - @nowine4u - the wine shop I frequent always gets a new allocation of this every year and they got this information from their distributor. I wish there was an easier way to determine this by just looking at label.

  • Comment posted by AMC Eagle:

9/6/2022 8:44:00 PM - Yes I have tasted a few different ones in the past and they've all been worth it. I see you also commented on a previous note that I've done for this from 2019. I'd say it's a very good wine for the money and is easily approachable. I see it as a top end Cotes du Rhone Villages so the quality is there(it is the same maker as Clos des Papes so we know of its pedigree). I bought a 6 pack this year and will be buying a 6 pack every year for every new version that comes out from my wine shop.

9/7/2022 6:08:00 PM - @nowine4u I'm no expert, but in my case, I see the 2016 a tad better than the 2019, with a big caveat that I have only tasted a small handful of 2019s(mostly Gigondas and CdRs). Both seem to exhibit a nice ripeness to them without being overbearing.

Glad to know you will be grabbing a few of these NVs. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Cheers!

Slow ox'ed for over an hour. Medium+ garnet in colour; there are blackberries with some candied dark fruits and wet tobacco with a touch of rubbing alcohol on the nose. On the palate there are good concentration of more blackberries with some dark chewing tobacco and hints of graphite; acidity is detectable along with its alcohol; tannins are evident. Medium+ bodied with a medium finish. Could use another year or two in the cellar -- community drinking window looks to be accurate. Very good qpr if you got this from garagiste.

11/5/2021 8:20:00 AM - @srh I think the '18 might be better, but I could be totally off. If I knew that the Garagiste mystery wine was this when I took a flyer on it, I would've bought a case :) Cheers!

Vinturried into a decanter and let sit for over an hour. Medium ruby-garnet in colour. Nose of crushed smoky blackberries with some black currants and a hint of rose petals. On the palate, there are bright red fruits with some tanginess on them along with some brambly red currants and touches of earthy cranberries. Medium bodied with a medium finish. Impressive for its price point.

8/23/2021 8:28:00 PM - @mmaronati Thanks for the comment. Points are very subjective and really depends on the taster's palate. In this case, I loved this wine and its price point. Vivino tasters may hate it, but Decanter gave it 95 points, so to each his own. I've tasted Tannat from Uruguay(Garzon) and the US(Y Rousseau), and this one to me is more fruitful, accessible, and age worthy. Not sure what other grapes to compare tannat to, but I think anything that is muscular, tannic, and filled with black fruits will fit the bill. WTSO has this wine up now for 12.99; I'd suggest you give it a try and if it's not for your palate, you can always gift it or use it for cooking. Cheers.

Opened one to see about this whole spritzy thingy, and sure enough this one I opened has that spritzy-ness in it. This is like drinking a flat black cherry soda and is nowhere close to the bottles I opened late last year. Not sure what is up.

Can develop further with some more cellaring.

Pnp; has a deep ruby-purple in colour. Nose of sweet blackberry and blueberry jam and violets. Getting stewed plums and blackberries along with some cassis and black peppers where some espresso is noticed at the end. Medium bodied with a medium finish. Since the wine store I frequently visit just got this recently, I would like to think that this would be an amalgam of more recent vintages('15? '16? '17?).

One hour decant and poured through a vinturri. Medium-dark ruby-garnet in appearance. Crushed rosemary, red and black cherries and cherry pits on the nose; has a bit of that barnyard funk as well that hovers around it. Palate's getting some buttery unripe raspberries, black peppers, green herbs and touches of white fruits like unripe pears or so; also am getting some of the sweet and sour candy profile as well with some hot tartiness with its medium finish; makes me wonder if there is some marsanne or roussane with this. This is drinking well right now, don't think this will develop anymore.

9/12/2015 5:11:00 PM - Hi Dave, I bought 9 bottles myself. I decanted one for a couple hours today and it seems to be good to drink, though I did notice the high alcohol. I'd say if you decant for a few hours, then you can pop this one today, though I would bury a few and revisit them in a couple of years(2017ish); this one should make it to the early part of next decade without issues. --Michael

Vinturied into a decanter and let sit for 90 minutes; poured using the vinturi. Light-medium garnet-ruby in colour; nose of very dark red fruits and some cassis with some black cherries and anise; can kinda smell the heat. The palate's getting loads of black fruits, black licorice, and some dark herbs; tannic up front and hot at the end; medium bodied with a short-medium finish. 30 minute decant and poured through a vinturri. Dark ruby-esque in colour. Getting some blackberries, cherries, and some licorice on the nose. The palate is getting some more black berries, black cherry licorice, with some black peppers and dark tobacco; concentrated and focused. Tannins are coarse but they're not all over the place. Medium bodied with a medium finish. This is supposedly a dead ringer for a CdP and I can kinda see that from my limited experience. Plenty of wine for the money on this one.

2/26/2013 1:33:00 PM - Thanks Barry Notes. I'm pretty impressed with this wine. I do my shopping mostly online(the usual suspects: WTSO, Last Bottle, WineShopper, and a few others) and do go to Applejack every now and then as I don't live that far away from them. May have to try the Argonaut tasting event as I've always been interested in going to tasting events to find some diamonds in the rough out there.
