Not a great outing for this bottle, as it showed a restrained style and highlighting notes of leather, anise, and a hint of cola.

I love picking up bottles of S-l-B whenever I see an interesting one. Light on its feet but with plenty of flavor. Shows notes of raspberry, soil, mineral.

One of my favorite Italian wines because it of its consistency - with notes of red plum, fig and cherry, accented by tobacco and spice. This picked up steam over time and seems to have plenty of life left. Good acidity and overall flavor.

Was expecting something more distinctive, or maybe I wasn't in the mood for an AFWE-type, austere wine. Light cherry, black tea, and violets.

7/7/2015 8:58:00 AM - AFWE = anti-flavor wine elite - a Robert Parker phrase critical of folks who enjoy natural (trendy?) wines. Parker thinks these wines lack flavor and that the drinkers of such wines are hipster elitists.

I like the WA take on this bottle which rates among the best I've had this year ... black fruits on the nose and entry palate, with notes of blackberry, black currant, black plum and elements of masala chai, juniper and earth. And the mid-palate and finish show a balanced, somewhat sweeter character with fresh and lively red fruits. Terrific cab that has me excited to try some of the R-M SVD cabs I cellared.

10/19/2013 10:37:00 AM - Well ... sometimes I write these things just to be a bit silly bc honestly who can really detect so many things in a sip of grape juice, but it's fun to engage in some creative writing from time to time. In this case, I was thinking "black tea" but decided to use a slightly more offbeat descriptor - masala chai is a spice-infused black tea (to my knowledge).
