Nose: There is a touch of wood to the nose, but it doesn't dominate along with licorice, roasted herbs, dark red cherries, roses, and some tar notes.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium/high acidity with youthful and chewy tannins. The structure is noticeable, but there is a freshness to it with dark red cherries, roses, licorice, tar, and some leather notes.

Overall: This shows off the modern influence, but it isn't overdone. This can and will get better, but it is enjoyable now on the youthful side.

A bit one dimensional at this point. Had a core of dark fruit with a touch of the nuttiness beginning to creep in. Palate was firm and had some very pure dark fruits. Will be better with patience!

Infanticide!!! (Publican, Chicago IL): nose: completely overblown and over ripe nose with tones of black fruits, oak, black marker tones and lots of liqueur. This wasn't all too enjoyable on the nose.

taste: full bodied with good supporting tannins, but there is a good amount of heat on this as well. Extremely ripe and rich with overblown tones of black fruits, black marker, and lots of oak.

overall: this was far from my cup of tea. I wonder how it will be in the future, but it was over ripe and over blown. Others at the table liked this, I was the opposite.

10/13/2013 8:08:00 PM - staren, what empirical evidence do you have to try to say that I have no clue what I'm talking about? This is my honest opinion on a wine that I found to be far less than stellar.

Please tell me how I don't know and why I don't know what I'm talking about and give me some proof. Otherwise your comment is utterly worthless as my opinion is outlined right here in the tasting note.

Vinetasters-2003 Bordeaux (Holiday Inn, Niles IL): Nose: The nose is very perfumed with tones of red fruits, cherries, spices, floral tones, liqueur, cedar, and some campfire smoke. There is very good depth to this with an elegant touch as well.

Taste: Medium bodied with sneaky, but firm tannins. The tannins seem to bite more on the back end with silky tones of red fruits, cherries, liqueur, currants, floral tones, and some fresh picked berries.

Overall: This was my no.2. This was a very pleasant surprise and it showed extremely well. I would like to see where this is in another 5-8 years.

They definitely showed the hot vintage in the tannins and the profile, but I didn't really come across it. I do also agree that the wines are still very young. Thankfully none of them were mine.

Second Annual Butcher&Larder dinner (Butcher&Larder, Chicago IL): nose: Elegant and open knit nose of roasted meats, herbs, spice tones, black fruits, florals and some dark red cherries. Very well balanced with nice depth to it as well.

taste:Full bodied with nice tannins and medium acidity. Well balanced with nice depth and classy tones of roasted meats, spices, black fruits, dark red cherries and some floral tones.

overall: Like the bottle in september, this was from a magnum. While it had youth to it, it was drinking just fine. It can age a while, but one wouldn't go wrong with taking a peek right now.

I don't think double decanting it will hurt before you go on the metra as the bottle in september more than lasted through the evening and even got better.
