2015 Château Ferran Pessac-Léognan

Red Bordeaux Blend more

Drinking well right out of the gate. Modern styled and generous, with a focus on dark plummy fruit, sweet oak, and a mocha finish. Well made and an excellent value, although the wood is slightly tedious for my taste

2008 Château Lanessan

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more

9/6/2020 - DanR wrote: NR

Very much on the lighter side, almost shrill, with upfront acidity dominating the overall wine character. Minty herbal with a coffee edge, with a tart cherry twang on the finish. Really missing some oomph here. I’m a fan of the property, but 2008 vintage is lacking...

12/8/2020 8:33:00 AM - Hi Jake, I'm a fan of Lanessan, but frankly I'd pass on the '08. Too lean and mean for me, but if it's your style, maybe it will work for you. Style-wise, the other TN's below seem to agree. Cheers!

Loved this. Still very youthful, with iron, dark fruit and végétal notes. Classic in style

2015 Château Fabre Gasparets Viognier Chimère

Vin de Pays d'Oc more

Orange viognier, tough to rate. The good: flavor profile of kumquat, marmalade jam, citrus skin. Really cool and exotic. Also, somehow not bitter, how these magicians fermented vio on the skins and made it drinkable is beyond me. The bad: 15.5% and tasted of every last percent. Rough, sand-papery texture. I really wish the somm at lunch (!!!) today had led me in a different direction...although to be fair it somehow did work with all courses - poached egg, fish and duck

9/27/2019 8:33:00 AM - @ forceberry - the info came from the somm at resto Ha in Bordeaux, he was talking about the bigger structure making it a better match for heartier dishes. You can see from my note I was surprised to hear it too - viognier has extremely bitter skins. In hindsight, maybe he was wrong, I've yet to encounter this wine again so can't say with certainty. Cheers!

2009 Château d'Aurilhac

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more

Showing really well, I’m going back for a case at <13€/ bottle. Cherry/cassis/olive/mint at first opening, umami comes out with air, Tannins start slightly clunky but they round out after about an hour, finishes with decent length. Medium bodied, this comes off as a more moderate, almost feminine style. Sleek, nimble, well composed and very well made.

2012 Lichen Estate Blanc de Gris

Anderson Valley White Blend more

3/19/2016 - Neat Water Back wrote: flawed

I think my bottle was either flawed or damaged due to refrigerator storage. No pop or fizz.

Considering a NV champagne opened as a replacement was just fine from the same location, I'm flawed bottle. Cork is incredibly small compared to champagne bottle opened.

BD purchase.

Wonderful. What an Oregon pinot should be. Light with excellent texture.
