1999 Château Léoville Barton

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more

Never had a more frustrating Bdx than this. In the 13 years I've owned this case, only one bottle (two years ago) showed well and all the rest have been muddy like last night's. Not quite stewed, and not quite pruney, more like what the denser goods at the bottom of a barrel could taste like--though the wine had very little sediment. Can't chalk it up to 'cooked' because there was one good bottle. What the heck?

6/25/2015 12:42:00 PM - I understand your frustration, I had a case of Penfolds 707 Cabernet where every bottle tasted flat and underwelming, I still have one bottle left but cannot seem to get the courage to open it. I believe that my bottle were in fact cooked. I worked for a trucking company that had trailer loads of fine bordeaux sitting in our yard in the July/August heat. I measured the temp in one of the trailers at over 130 degrees on a 100 degree day. It can and does happen!

2009 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon

Napa Valley more

I always find the Caymus notes so interesting. At the end of the day, great scores, but so many negative and nasty notes (and I would guess those that write them know they are going to hate it before they even try it). I'm not sure I want to drink it all the time, but I appreciate the consistency of style... Dark fruits and chocolate all wrapped in an impeccably smooth vanilla coat. Goes down easy on a Friday night after a long week. When you're in the mood, what more can you ask for?

12/7/2013 6:00:00 AM - I agree most of the negative notes come from people that know they will hate it before they taste it. It must be nice to have the $$ to spend on wine you know you are going to hate. You are also correct that I would not want to drink this or for that matter any particular wine all the time. Variety is the spice of life! Thanks for the excellent review, salud!
