2013 Soldera (Az. Agr. Case Basse) Sangiovese Toscana IGT

More Soldera magic. Enigmatic nectar, puts a smile on your face from the first whiff to the last sip. It has that aristocratic flair and dense red berry fruit which can best some of the finest Burgundies. It’s unbelievably polished and silky. Roses in full bloom, dried herbs, blood orange, ripe strawberry; bang on fantastic

Disgorged 27 Oct 2021, assuming 36 months on less based on information from Skurnik site, this should be 80% 2017 and 20% reserve wines, 5 g/l dosage. Aroma of lemon, red apple, spice, honey. Good balance on the palate with racy acid.

Stewed fruit with bits of soy and tertiary earth already. Underlying wild dark fruit (the bad bottle was blended in with a fresh bottle!!?!).
2016 CDLR should not be tasting like that. Flawed.

Emmanuel Brochet New Release (Crab at Bay): 80% PN, 20% C, 8 years in bottle on lees, from purchased grapes, 3586 bottles, disgorged Nov 2022, 2g. Orange, citrus, slightly oxidative notes probably due to the lees. Palate is rich, expansive and fresh. Oxidative notes more prominent on the palate. This is much better than the bottle I had tasted 2 months back.

Dinner with Florentino Grangeon, Co owner of Cristia/Theodoric (La Fete): This is my least favorite amongst the 3 single variety CDP. Darker and more masculine not very expressive at this moment

  • Comment posted by astroman:

5/15/2023 7:09:00 PM - Syrah and Grenache is drinking very nicely now. I would leave the Mourvedre for at least 5 years before trying. All three could definitely be aged for at least 5 years or even much longer depending on how you like your wine.

Jabot vs Faiveley (Bellyhappy Chef): Blind. Was surprise when this was revealed as 2014, thought it was the 2017 as it was drinking nicely and did not have the transparency or airy notes that comes with 2014. Cola, oak rather prominent, high tannins, fully body, grippy tannins, red cherry, raspberry.

Tried this between a Zalto champagne glass and universal. In the champagne glass, it was lean and mineral with hints of green apple. Creamy in the universal glass. I actually like in the champagne glass due to the focus and lean notes.
