2012 Rôtie Cellars VDP

Washington Red Rhone Blend more

2/13/2015 - fitchbuck Likes this wine: 92 points

Average and shut-down on night one, was a bit worried the '10 vintage VdP might have been a one hit wonder. So I let it stew for a few nights in fridge: bingo. Another great Wa QPR.

If you're reading this .. and I know you are: let 'em sit for another year or two.

Dented for one hour. I know this was an early consumption. I was curious. I have a few more bottles. The fruit was not strong. Nose was just OK. I will hope for better results next time, but I am concerned.

Columbia Valley White Blend more

Really tasty 80/20 Viognier/Roussanne blend. Floral from the former and structure from the latter. Hint of sweetness controlled by acid on the back. Recommended

2013 Mark Ryan Viognier Columbia Valley

9/1/2014 - Anthony Lombardi Likes this wine: 93 points

Clear light gold. Lively nose of white peaches, almonds & tart autumn apples. Almost perfectly textured with a creaminess on the mid palate before a bright snap on the back & through the finish. The apple notes take over the palate & this shows moderately high acidity. Very well composed Viognier.

This was paired with pasta Puttanesca. That sauce was a balance of acidic, bright & briny. This wine was the perfect complement. The core of the fruit wasn't overwhelmed by any of these flavors & it paired beautifully. Ultimately, I think the greatest complement to any bottle of wine is that it makes a meal better. This fit the bill tonight.

9/6/2014 9:24:00 PM - I thought this was wonderful as well. Tasted in Walla Walla but didn't buy as we were on our way to dinner. Made up for that error by getting some at the tasting room in Woodinville today. What a fantastic review; I can't do anything but agree and wish I had shared the meal! Well put!

Took my own advice and did not decant. Consumed by a group at a tasting in under 2 hours. Really tasty. Not showing negative signs of age at all.

2008 Col Solare

Columbia Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

4/20/2014 - Motz wrote: 91 points

The four vintages of Col Solare I've tasted have displayed noticeable nuance, no two are the same. The 2005, 2007, and 2009 vintages, however, can generally be categorized as bold; the 2008 is subdued, even elegant, by comparison. The nose is mostly mute, the attack soft. The wine comes to life at the mid palate, showing refined grainy tannins, and very nice acidity. This is accompanied by charming dark berry fruit that emerges from behind the oak. In a word, racy.

2008 Saint Laurent Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Wahluke Cabernet

Wahluke Slope more

I actually had higher hopes for this being Wahluke Slope, but I guess the '08 vintage just didn't develop as well as '07. Nice drink, and at this price point, not objectionable at all.

5/28/2014 8:22:00 AM - I appreciate your comments, as this winery is not well known to me. I had a couple of Syrah as well, and felt pretty much the same as the cab. I am out of both, but won't hesitate to try again.

5/29/2014 10:13:00 AM - Ooops! They closed the winery in Sept. 2013! The release says the label will continue, but it sounds like it will be a different winemaker than the past. Unfortunately, this is a lot like Olsen. Speaking of which, when I went to the Red Mtn. Revelry last weekend, I was surprised to see no one has taken over Olsen's old tasting room as yet.

2009 Robert Ramsay Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Dump Block Upland Vineyard

Yakima Valley Snipes Mountain more

With all due respect to the sub-80 points reviews, I don't know where this is coming from. Popped and poured at 60 degrees right from the N'finity and couldn't disagree more. Not getting the high vanilla, not overly fruity at all, and I think the finish is decent. Will have to see what happens as it opens up and warms up as well...OK, had with dinner (beef stroganoff) and I've got no complaints. My rating stands.

1/30/2014 7:53:00 AM - Hopefully, it is just bottle variation. Case in point, I had 5 bottles of '07 Page cab, and one bottle had so much sediment that a back-lighted picture showed it coated top to bottom on two sides. I drank it anyway, even though it had a slightly different taste. If this had been the first bottle it would have worried me, but I'd already had two that were fine, and the next one was also good. I also have my fingers crossed for bottle #2 of a Cava Rose that I poured out despite an 88 rating on CT.

Wonderful wine for a special occasion. Very dark ruby; only the outer edge lets any light through. Full nose that made me feel like I was in the cellar surrounded by aging casks. Looong finish.

As good as anything I've had from NZ. Bright citrus nose and lush mouth feel with clean acid on the finish. Wonderful stuff.

12/30/2013 8:54:00 AM - The only negative was that one of the three bottles I bought was off; a strange unidentifiable after-taste that made you put it aside. Thankfully, it was the last bottle, so I knew it was the exception!
