2011 Sanguis 1/1Santa Barbara County Syrah more |
10/13/2018 - Quiet Lion wrote: 89 pointsOn pop and pour this showed awkwardly unbalanced but it softened somewhat with air. The Roussanne comes through strong, giving it floral and citrus notes. Some sour cherry and chocolate came through after a couple hours but it never showed balanced or crisp. A disappointing Sanguis, although I'm a big fan of their wines in general. |

5/26/2021 - Z1nnfull Likes this wine: 91 pointsExceptionally fine Old Vine Zin. Hefty, spice, fruit, but neither a fruit or alcohol bomb. Reminds me of what Zin used to be. Thought it might be a tad young, could benefit from an afternoon of breathing for best results at this point; think pop and pour would end up a disappointment.

1/8/2021 - Bob in NC wrote: 93 pointsWow, an incredible wine at a perfect place in time. This CdP is masculine in style exhibiting power with strength of flavors that you expect in a good CdP. The flavors are incredibly balanced with great depth that went on forever in the finish. A perfect selection with our roasted leg of lamb, forbidden rice and vegetables with Indian spice flair.

4/13/2018 - SexyEpicurean wrote: 82 pointsSeems to be bottle variation issues on this offering from Rimmerman. I opened mine and was dismayed to find all the fruit gone at this point. I do tend to hold my wines to the end of the drinking window, and this was stated 2014-17+. I usually have no problems doing this with a Bordeaux or Burgundy into the 6-7 year range from date on bottle, but this one while not undrinkable, was not really pleasant or showing right. Tasted all tannin and no fruit. One note. Tried again day 2 to same effect. Went back and read the offer from Garagiste and in retrospect, probably should not have purchased as damning with faint praise.

3/27/2018 - Clark W Griswold Likes this wine: 90 pointsDouble decant. Pretty good juice! Hard to find better qpr. Had along side the 2015 vintage and I must say I prefer the 2016 as a daily. The 15 is maybe a bit more tannic and may age better but who’s aging $12 Wine?

10/5/2014 - laxman wrote: 88 pointsa bit disappointing given previously vintages. This is frequently one of my favorite sub-premium Cali cabs and given the hype about the 2012 vintage, I was hoping for more. Not bad, but few expressive cab notes. You really have to focus to pick up the fruit. What fun is that? The price point on this used to be closer to $15-17 and now stands around $20. Unfortunately, this 2012 tastes no better than a $12-15 Cali cab of the same vintage from other producers. The search for my "goto" 2012 cab continues.
