This is a real surprise, coming from one of the most prominent white wine regions of Austria. A noble, hedonistic and elegantly powerful wine that makes you think of St. Emilion. Gobs of black fruit in the nose, blackberries, black cherries, chocolate, tobacco, a little roast coffee. The wine shows full body, fills the mouth, good pressure on the palate. The fruit and smoothness are backed by fine grained tannins to give it a long, dark aftertaste. Wonderful, and will get better with a couple of years of cellaring.

Still a bit young in the glass, it quickly evolves to showcase how the sum is better than the individual parts. Very much like a top Chateauneuf de Pape Blanc, shows clean in the glass, offering aromas of white stone fruit, Crenshaw melon, and touched with some floral touches, the beautiful balance of a lip-smacking acidity begs you to come back for another glass. Amazing how this refreshing and complex wine disappears so quickly from the bottle.

Black currants, leather, some lavender and cigar box. Well integrated, hardly noticeable alcohol. Velvety tannins and clearly noticeable wood. Dense and complex with remarkably long finish. Respectable wine that certainly make more fun paired with food. I'm starting to look for Truffles...

Dark fruit aroma on this brick colored wine, some white pepper spice too. Taste, first is the pepper, followed by tobacco and then the dark berries. Excellent and drinking very well. Perfect accompaniment to braised lamb shanks.

On the nose: apricots, dried fruit, pear, very nice and balanced nose.
On the palate: apricot, pear, bitter and sweet at the same time. There is a fine balance in the wine.

1+ hour decant allowed this deep garnet coloured syrah to open up. Some sediment; nose of cherries and hint of dark chocolate. Tastes of crushed blackberries, dark cherries, tobacco, and moca. Excellent mouthfeel, well balanced, with very little alcohol. Went very well with roasted w/ duck served over smashed sweet potatoes. Impressive with no rush to open remaining bottles

The wine displayed a nice nature nose of ink, clove and red fruit. The color is garnet with a hint of warmer hue indicating some maturity. On the palate the wine ha some red fruit and clove but light and highly one-dimensional. It is disappointing. Tannins are moderate. This wine just doesn't have enough flavor. It is not over the hill at all. Just too dull to be a very good wine. Highly drinkable though, in a middling sort of way.

Hand-carried back from the Chateau last year to the US, and this bottle was the absolute hit of a recent dinner party. Shows how terrific the better Chateaux can be from Cahors, showcasing the blackberry/plum flavors of the grape, the unique terroir of the Lot Valley, and generational winemaking devoted to this grape. Unlike the South American and US versions of Malbec, there is lots of balance, flavor and terroir in the original, and it's clear why this region was dominate for hundreds of years for the "black grape". A good textbook lesson in the quality (and value) of great Old World versions of popular grapes.

On the nose: Victoria plum, purple plum, dark intensive sweet cherries, some oak/vanilla and some dust.
On the palate: Vanilla, quite smoth but with character, balanced acidity with a big mouth feel with a lot of dark berries.

Pop and pour, then allowed to stand for two hours. This was completely shut down on opening, showing only faint red fruit and some acid. Over the course of a few hours, it opened up gradually with a nose similar to old magic markers (maybe xylene?) and camphor, with plum, roasted red pepper, blackberry, and notes of savory herbs and earth on the medium finish, with strong drying tannins, noticeable alcoholic heat, and good acidity. Although it's ten years old, it seems to be very early to be drinking this; it needs two or three more years to absorb its tannins, and maybe longer than that to develop more complexity. In spite of that, it's a good value at about $35, and a good example of Sagrantino.
