The quality here really surprised me given the vintage and some of the comments here. It was smooth, fine, sweet and savoury with a deliciously expensive oak presence. Very nicely balanced. 91

Much better than in 2014. Still young but in much better balance. Very dark and dense for a Moulis. Eucalyptus and violets. Great texture and very good tannic structure - this is a wine that will improve and keep for years to come.

Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux San Francisco. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot. Lovely nose of fruit, downhill from there, light/medium body, light finish. $25.

Fucking fantastic. Surprised at the price - this one was among our favorites in the Grand Cru tasting today, yet one of the lower cost bottles. Nose of cocoa and berry pie, palate of cocoa powder and white tea with very soft balance and satisfying acidity.

Tannic, firm, classically styled, with an austere, herb or leaf tinged personality is dominated by crisp red berries and spice. This clearly needs another 5 or more years to come around.

Nose: Red berries, raspberries, very pleasant. Mouth: Consistent with the nose. Nice expressive (sweet) fruit but no fruit bomb. Everything is in check and balanced. After a while upon opening the bottle I can taste black tea, as well. Nice freshness. It is a very feminine wine Burgundy-style if you will. More on the bouquet and aroma than on the structure. Also quite light and transparent in color for a Bordeaux. 14% alc. but well hidden. Drink now or in the next 10 years.
The half full bottle (vacuumed) after having spent some days in the fridge has developed a faint cherry aroma.

Blackcurrant nose, the palate is blackbcurrant, not very sweet, dried tobaccao notes.mThis is really fine and elegant, good intensity of blackcurrant flavours with a hint of pepper on the long finish. Despite the blocked nose, this wine sings.

Adobo Dinner (Home (Noe st)): Classic Medoc. Surprisingly intense cassis. Integrated oak spice and Brett furry spice. Some savoriness and sweet tobacco from early development. Medium body. Medium alcohol. Medium acid. Medium tannins. Satiny and elegant. This is in a great place - well-integrated and interesting enough to command attention. It could get way better with age.
12.8% alcohol
score: between 9-9.5.

very little brown, little sediment, decanted 2 hours, warm nose, spicy, dry character rather than sweet fruit, some greenish herbal austerity / hardness on the back of the palate that I typically associate with Moulis, good food wine, the hardness actually was a good counterpoint to the fattiness of the roast lamb, good pairing, good QPR for original subscription price

Very pretty (quality sweet oak imparted) bouquet for a Moulis-en-Médoc offering, which are typically quite rustic and earthy. Smooth and polished, arguably excessively so, yet still highly enjoyable. Time will reveal whether this wine sheds is fluff and reveals its rustic core or retains is modernly styled polish. Glad to have another bottle. In this vintage, I prefer Chateau Poujeaux. 90-92.

Deep ruby/garnet, pale garnet rim. Nose shows cedary dark fruit, touches of smoke and gravel. Classic, attractive. Medium bodied, cool dark, cedary fruit, cigar box, some smoky, savoury notes, fresh acids, then a good length, if still slightly firm finish. Excellent, very much my sort of claret. Drinking now, but absolutely no hurry - for at least another 7-10 years if properly stored.

Medoc Masterclass (GuildSomm) (Torque (Napa, CA)): 55 cab 40 merlot, 5 PV.
with Ch. Pougeaux- best two Chateaux in Moulis.
“Chasse spleen” to chase away the blues. Favorite of the poet Byron.
Just on the border of Margaux - similar. Aromatic and leaner on palate.

Moderate concentration ruby core to a ruby rim.

Expressive nose of slight brett, ripe plum, floral suggestions of fresh roses.

Medium body, medium alcohol, medium acid, medium tannins (tissue-like).
Lifted on the palate. Elegant. Classy.
Some cool blue fruit, as well as some overripe notes - reminds me of overripe plum or maybe even methane. Perhaps the plumminess is from the 40% Merlot presence.

Vintage comment: 2012 was a cool year, but this is a high-quality wine. Perhaps the blue fruit is connected to the vintage?

$20-35
betwen 8.5 and 9.

BORDEAUX 2005 / Cabernet rules; 4/5/2006-4/10/2006 (Bordeaux): Smells almost like a Sauvignon Blanc, with bourgeon de cassis aromas, strangely bordering on green! The palate is tight and hard, but will soften with time in barrel. Normally a very fine estate!

Ah-so'd the cork and it came out beautifully. Let the wine sit opened for an hour or two. Once poured, it was clear we were dealing with a Bordeaux at a great stage that reminds me why I have a cellar, in the hopes to let all of my bottles reach this great point in their development. The color showed some bricking but still looked youthful; on the palate the tannins were mostly resolved, though there was a sense of grip on the finish. Flavors were fairly classic Bordeaux - red fruits, currant, eucalyptus, and taking on some tertiary notes of earth and tobacco. I'd guess this is at peak but would likely hold for a few more years as well.

Plum in its drinking window. Lovely expression of a middle aged Medoc, showing leather, some earth, and a concentrated cassis core showing the vintage nicely. Plush mouthfeel; rich palate; tannins are soft and integrated but still offer ample structure; lingering finish. Very enjoyable.

Pre-Christmas family dinner.
Three bottles back-decanted. Some minor bottle variance but essentially as per my January '15 note.
Classic mature English style claret for drinking up over the next couple of years.

Shows nicely right now; didn't decant but second glass was better than the first so airtime rewards (as usual). Middle aged flavors of bright berry fruits, complex spices and some leather with good acidity and relaxed tannins. Will reward further cellaring.

PnP. Initially nice, but, after 30 minutes, this completely fell apart and became a watery, diluted drink, which was unbelievable. We could not finish even half the bottle. After having yet another disappointing 2000 Bordeaux, I would say that the vintage did not live up to the hype after all.

perfekter Korken, dicht und nur 2 mm eingedrungen. Flasche perfekt gefüllt. Farbe im Glas dunkelrubinrot, kein bisschen bräunlich, auch keine Spur von Überalterung, perfekt mit Potential zu weiteren Jahren der Lagerung;
