Green pepper and pencil shavings aroma, earthy, a little bit of cherry, still strong, full bodied taste, smoke/oak flavor, this note is two days after we opened, leftover after a great wine dinner, and still showing beautiful taste...very nice wine

Big, voluptuous bouquet layered with old leather, cinnamon, a bit of funk, wood smoke, and a boatload of resolved pyrazines. Medium to light bodied with an excellent lingering finish. Bright palate.

wonderful nose of aging Bordeaux. Earthy rich and spicy. On the palate it felt a little thinner than expected and the body was less dense than the nose indicated. Very elegant and complex with nootes of elderflower, tabacco and dried fruit. I would say this bottle was maybe slightly over its peak and lacking the intensity. Still a fantastic wine diplaying a facet of flowery smooth creamy dark fruits with a rather long finish.

Like all the other 2003 Bordeaux Vintage, the nose is very ripe!
Wine is very silk-like and smooth. Mid to full body with purple dark in colour, showing its age.

The palate shows cassie, dark plum, hint of leather and tea (perhaps the tannis?). Consumed with Sirloin and cheese.

We have no significant additions to last note: "Slightly brownish-red hue. Red fruit and a bit of chocolate on the nose. Tannins and fruit still working well despite the finesse and elegance of, in our opinion, one of St. Julien’s best Chateaux. Long, strong finish. Awesome! We can still see that going for another decade with power! We never understood the 1855 classe system. Simply stated, we love Haut-Brion and it is different, but is it “better”? Hmmm…." It breathed for more than 5 hours in the bottle before we considered this dahlin' ready to sip. Some subtle, yet powerful, Beyonce like perfume on the nose.

Beautiful mature wine. Needs to be opened up. Strong nose, of plum. Well integrated with mushroom, plum and black berries in the mouth. Drinking well now, but with more room

Bring the funk baby! I have acquired a love of GL and it's unique funkiness. This was fun to drink.

Decanted and opened up over several hours. Nice deep red/purple GL color that you've come to love. Let the intense barnyard funk blow off a bit. After a few hours the nose opens with dark cherry, plum, blueberry, hints of cedar and just the right amount of wet barnyard GL funk. Your palate is struck immediately by ripe, dark cherry and plum fruit and followed by some floral and forest floor hints. Smooth and round in the mouth the tannins are fully integrated. Wonderfully long blueberry and cassis finish.

This is ready to drink now. No more holding. Enjoy!

Possible the bottle is off? Fairly lean, mature to declining, interesting minerality but little fruit and tea bag tannins. Strong metallic flavour ruins an otherwise okay but not amazing wine. lacks the depth of last two bottles.

Like all good Larose this is built to age. I realize this is still very young but I couldn't resist. 4 hour decant was needed. Earthy farm, plum, raisin, dark black fruit and a little tobacco on the nose. Plum, raisin, cassis and a hint of crushed flower on the palate.

Very good wine. Very well structured. Will leave my remaining bottles in the cellar. If you have a few of these it is definitely worth drinking. Make sure to decant for at least 4 hours.

Nice showing here - good fruit with some of Gruaud's characteristic Brett already present making this quite distinguishable. Accessed via Coravin to check if I should get a case of this as I only have 2 bottles. After this tasting I lean towards yes, for a price just above £500 for 12 bottles in bond close to the top of my list near term to add to my collection. I feel this wine should repay handsomely with some further development over the next decade or more...

Sister in law in town (Restaurant Michael Winnetka IL): The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like mushroom, cedar, pine and vanilla.
The body is medium/full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Capsule intact and cork was in good condition. Decanted for sediment removal and let it breath for 20 minutes. Dark ruby color, lightening at the rim. The nose was marked by restrained red fruit, followed by herbal and minty notes, and finally cedar and tobacco; a classic Medoc. The palate shows tart red fruit, forest floor and aged tobacco. Mid-palate has a notable mint/pine character which carries to a bright, acidic finish, with well resolved tannins and a supple texture throughout. Medium body; medium + finish.

Much fresher than the '75 served with it, but still rather earthy with some smoky cherry cedary flavors.

From 375
huge amount of bottle stink, fairly light garnet colored. Still with dense leathery tannins and no real fruit to speak of, but showing no sign of decline and actually probably in need of more time in this incredibly backward vintage.

A Hedonistic Night of Burgs, Bordeaux, and CDP at Tilia (Tilia, Mpls): Dark red color with a maroon hue, 2-3 mm margin. Pristine cork, opened 3 hours prior and splash double decanted to remove sediment right before leaving. The nose was singing right off the bat. That classic perfume of leather, florals and tobacco, very provocative. The palate is silky with a medium plus body, tobacco laden with grainy integrating tannins, leather, dark red fruits and cassis that take on more weight over an hour. Very elegant, classy as always. Probably right at peak now, this can still go for years. I love older Larose, it never disappoints always delivering a classic, elegantly aged Bordeaux.

I have been looking so much forward to drinking this vintage when it was mature and showing its best. That is now. P&P and served at 15 degrees celsius - giving it an opportunity to adapt and open. In the nose very typical St. Julien (and a little bit Pauillac) with pencil, cigar box and vanilla. It got even more sophisticated after an hour. On the palate the tannins was quite harsh in the beginnning, but they softened after some time. This is fully mature, but you can wait up to 15 years in my opinion as it won't lose its fruit until then. Great experience.

Second Sunday Group: 2012 Bordeaux (Mike's): Initial notes of coffee (another one?!?!) and black fruit. Another chewy, dense wine, with flavors of dark fruit and plum and obvious oak. Much more simple than the others- though it could be the wood is masking everything else here as it's pretty heavy-handed. As I came back to it I found that not much had changed. There's dark fruit, somewhat ripe and plummy, as well as a hint of earth/funk. Lengthy finish. Kind of enjoyable, albeit in a bigger style.

Tasted blind, wine #2. Dark Ruby with vibrant brick red hue.
Expressive nose of leather, earth, subtle tobacco, plum, dried fruits, blackcurrant. Nice elegant bouquet.
Soft and mellow entry, along with dried cherry, blackcurrant, subtle tobacco, licorice and subtle spice. Long lingering finish with soft tannins. Matured and drinking nicely now.

MIT Sloan Fellows Forum - Meeting and Dinner in the Provinces: From a magnum. With the main course, we went with 2 birth-year wines (01 and 95) in honor of Meredith and Charlotte joining the MIT group for dinner. Drank side by side with Lail/J Daniel Cuvee (01). Both had close to 3 hours in the decanter before drinking.

Will borrow prior notes from Dec/12: "Nicely aged, medium purple, some thinning at the edges. Nose was fresh and elegant. Some funk one the opneing, blows off in about 15 minutes. Nose was blackberry, cassis, graphite and cedar. After about an hour picking up some burnt sugar. Palate of sweet cherries, currant, cedar. Fruit and acid and well balanced. Tannins resolved but still present. Medium finish."

The extra decant time and maybe the magnum format...but this was really beautiful wine this evening...better than I remember the prior bottle. We lingered over this for a while, was what great Bordeaux is when it hits its stride, elegant, devine and contemplative...beautifully paired with tenderloin and vegetables.

WOTN for about half the group....
