needed 30-45 min to come open, but even after a 4 hours decant the acids and bitterness remain dominating the end of the middle part, leading to a poor balance, maybe this wine is just way too young? for now only a 89+ score and hence a very poor PQR

A fairly deep colour; a classic claret nose of blackurrant, spice and smoke; medium depth on the palate, but there is a slight wateriness towards the end and the fruit is a little unyielding.

I can honestly say that there was nothing wrong with this wine. It was good. It was at least as good as 100 other bottles that I've had that were the same price less a 0 on the end (i.e. about $20). Maybe a bit better.

But for that price and the hype, it had better be damn good. And it wasn't. It was just good.

First things - the score is for today and will get higher. I can only suggest that comments about tired etc are arising from bottles with less than ideal storage. This one is just starting to reach respectable maturity. The tannins are resolving. Lots of berry fruit, mostly black but some rasp too. Lots of woodland notes. Great concentration. Good acidity and long.

Graphite, black cherry, blackberry and pencil shavings. Extremely fine tannins set the scene on the palate, with classy fruit that has intensity but also control. Truly excellent wine even now when it is still so young.

Maybe not as aromatic as my last bottle, but still had a terrific nose of smoke, burnt ends, and typical bdx funk. Plush mouthfeel, quite suave and a atypical of bdx texture wise--but flavor is all bdx with funk, red and blue fruits and a fantastic menthol character. Mild tannins on the back end. Moderate smoke and fruity finish. This continues to drink well, though much more exuberant and expressive upon opening compared to 4hrs later.

Lovely complex compote of red Fruits and bramble on the nose, sandalwood, pepper, tobacco, minerals; smooth palate, great concentration, lovely silky weight. Deep note of liquorice, stony minerality. Excellent.

Malgré le millésime solaire, belle matière encore une fois.
Montre un peu de tertiaire en début de bouche, un peu animal, du graphite, du cèdre et des fruits rouges, bien complexe et fin, excellent.

Very very good 97 - utterly correct St Julien notes, tremendously long on the palate - can still taste it hours afterwards. A really delightful surprise (three entirely consistent bottles). Buy it if you can....

This wine has floral, tobbaco, honey and fruity nose.
Also had great palette. Decanted for an hour and enjoyed for 2 hours.
But had some power yet, so if you have enough time, try to breathe it for 4 or 6 hours before you try this. Seems like goona keep this taste for decades.

Drank side by side with a 2001 Haut Bailly. Largely consistent notes with previous bottle. Compared to the Haut Bailly, the Barton had a bit fresher dark fruit but in comparison also noticeable oak, particularly on mid palate and finish. Probably best in 1-2 years

Cigar box and tobacco dominate with some cassis, cherry secret and rhubarb finish out the end, tannins are chewy and pervasive. It's still good now with a long decant, and I think it will eventually come into balance 10-15 years from now. However if you want to taste any sweet red fruits I would open up a bottle in the next 3-5 years with a 4-5 hour decant time.

The level was at medium neck. The cork was a little spongy but came out fine. The wine has virtually no sediment. It had been in a very cool cellar. The door was deep red with virtually no warm tones at all. The bouquet was simple toast and old wood. The taste was some berries, light cedar and not as complex as I would have projected. Still friity but less interesting. I believe this wine is still young and has easily half a dozen years to improve Still a charmer.

Second Sunday Group: 2012 Bordeaux (Mike's): Deep crimson/purple color. Initially quite reticent and muted, this took some time in the glass to open up. Aromas of black raspberry, plum, violets and blackberries. Tannins are dense and chewy; this is one of the bigger wines in the lineup. Black currants, plum, violets, vanilla and dried herb flavors. Lengthy finish. 92-93 pts.

My #3, Domino's #4
Group #5, 51 pts

3rd of 12, decanted an hour, as November 14 note, still primary cassis fruit, just a touch of attenuation and hint of under-ripe fruit, dryish tannins, lacking generosity, classy though and on improving trend.

Pretty ruby color, great clarity, and just barely translucent. Aromas of blackberry, currants, smoke, soy, espresso, and strawberry. The tastes are espresso, beef, black pepper, soy, unripe blackberry, cigar, vanilla, cedar, currants, and sour cherry. The tannins are stout and the acidity is notable. This finishes with old world flavors and somewhat ferocious, dry tannins. This would be fantastic with rare steak or juicy lamb dish. Complex and delicious.

Tasted blind, wine #3. Young and fresh bouquet along with cassis, blackberry, vanilla, sweet toasty oak, licorice. Amazingly still primary on the nose.
Good weighty palate, exhibits rich cassis fruits, subtle tobacco and earth. Expressive and youthful palate with good structure. It has seamless balance and finesse that really impressed. Long persistent finish with sweet licorice aftertaste and fine chewy tannins. Very good and young taste like a 90s with good acidity backbone. My WoTN and it holds better than the 1985 Château Gruaud Larose tasted alongside. Ex-Chateau stock could be the reason as it assures the provenance. Hope my own bottle can be equally good.

A bit more depth to the nose compared to Langoa Barton - ripe dark fruit, quite expressive and rich at this stage, spices. On the palate very classy - powerful tannins, grippy, fresh, juicy, long. Needs time but should be excellent. 93-94+
