5dan FAIL dinner: aiming at November! (Bisi-Basi, Yokohama): This is an amazing Bdx. Favourite btl of tonight and especially enjoyed by Suda sensei. Open for business after 3 hrs decant. Not at all as tight as the previous btl. However, we'd guess that ~2020 is the start of their plateau, according to our taste.
...but it's darn good as is!

Cassis and leather nose with dark berry fruit, earth and oak on the palate. Well integrated tannins improve with time in the glass. This wine is drinking well now but will improve over the next 5 yrs.

What an improvement this estate has undergone! This 375, with an hour's decant, expressed classic St Julien flavors, with a strong backbone, plenty of dark cherry, cassis and cedar, some moss and earthy tones to be sure; a delightful experience, especially given the less than stellar showing in decades past.

Decanted for 2 hours and drank an hour later. Smooth and long...yes a little heavy on the oak, but medium to long finish. Drinking well with a decant. Branaire 2000 showed promise, but was drinking much tighter and closed this night.

Am Anfang verschloßen und säuerlich. Brauchte Luft, nach Dekantieren und 3 Stunden ok. Tabaknoten, nasses Zeitungspapier, recht herb. Frucht und Tannine sind abgebaut. Noch ok

Medium ruby. Chocolaty nose on the top note with some vanilla, oak and spices following. Not particularly complex, more like a well made commercial wine. On the palate soft and round like all 2009s but I am missing aromatic complexity for a higher score. Time may bring this.

Popped and poured. It was showing nicely in the glass after 30 mins. A mature, young to drink bordeaux. The nose had dark currants, herbs, mushroom, and a sweet nose. The wine reflected the ripe vintage. However, the palate was not as deep and concentrated as Lagrange 2000. The finish was a bit dry. Better than 2007 Lagrange but not as good as his 2000 vintage. I would drink this now as I dont see it to improve with more aging.

Had top class spicy, aromatic and complex aromas of oaky, cedary, vanillary bluberries, plums, flowers, cassis and leather. Its medium to full bodied eliptical and elegant palate has lovely concentration, a very oaky, plump and fruity deliniated middle and ends long, fresh and rolling. Will improve.

Very restrained on the nose, especially compared to the 2009. On the palate very grippy, and firm, almost hard, but there is structure, freshness and precision. The finish is a bit drying but very long. Needs time. 92-94(+)

Quite a bit more expressive and generous than the 2005. Sweet, ripe, seductive fruit, spicy, mineral. Great length. 92-93+

Complex nose, lots of fruit, spices, slightly floral and mineral. Savoury on the palate, again mineral, grippy tannins, good fruit, vibrant acidity. Elegant and very classic, excellent. Good future. 92-93(+)

Rich nose with consentrated cassis, pencil shavings and spices. On the palate fruitiness hits you first and then you get some leather, dried cherries and plums and also pepperiness. Excellent structure. Smooth and elegant wine with medium long aftertaste.

I think this was opened right when it needed to be. I'm not sure what purpose there is to keep holding it (the '03 Lafon Rochet, opened the day before, was slightly more structured and can go a little longer), at least based on my experience: I'm glad I opened it (my only bottle). Compared to the '00, opened 1.5 years ago, the '03 is less of a wine (medium bodied at the most), and not at all on par with the depth, structure, and potential of the '00. With that said, the '03 was enjoyed by all at the able, shining above the '05 CdP Vatican Cuvee Sixteen, which was not quite ready yet. The '03 Lagrange, however, featured a lovely nose of cedar, roasted herbs, a hint of mocha, graphite, and with time, olive, mushroom, and red fruits (not particularly deep or dark though). In the mouth, it's silky and smooth, with no harshness or notable tannic presence to speak of, and dominated by raspberry, plum, and blueberry fruit flavors.

Goedhuis tasting at the Saatchi Gallery West London. Plenty on the nose: red and black fruits, cassis. Lots of grip, tannins which were and fine and smooth.

Goedhuis tasting at the Saatchi Gallery West London. A polished, proper and well made wine. Good fruits, smooth but perhaps a tad tight more like the 2008 than the 2005.

Nice expressive aromas of rich cassis fruits, plum, black berries, cigar box, pencil shavings, black ink and hints of menthol and toasted oak.
Robust and smooth entry, along with rich cassis fruits, tobacco, hints of menthol and vanilla, still pretty tight. Ripe fruits flavours with good acidity. Grippy tannins, medium+ finish.

Have had 3 bottles of this over the last couple of months. One of them was cooked and over the hill but the other two were good. For the good bottles, there was little at fault I could find. Even at 25, this is a powerful, tannic wine. Yet, there is also the unmistakable elegance and sweetness that come with maturity. Overall, this is in a good spot right now, where the power of youth and the mellowness of maturity are perfectly balanced. Very enjoyable experience.

P&P but needing four hours plus in a decanter to start singing. Served at 13C. Dark crimson colour but mature appearance on the nose with aromas of pencil, rotten roses, four-squared mint, earth and mushrooms. Very Paulliac-like rather than a truly Saint Julien.
On the palate showed dry and short. Good at its best.
For this useful vintage a honest, very dry and attractive St.Julien bottle. In my view this needed extra cellaring.
Tried to match it with a leg of young lamb for lunch. Consumed during the evening. I am a patient man.

Abierta y servida pero necesitando más de cuatro horas en un decantador para empezar a brillar. Servido a 13C.

Lovely aged Bordeaux. Decanted for 1.5 hours before drinking at annual steak & wine dinner. Completely different experience, but even held its own among lots of 2012 Napa cabs. Nice mature Bordeaux nose as initial bottle funk blew off, terrific balance on the palate, fruit still holding, nice smoke & leather notes, plenty long finish. Has to be at its peak, but will last some years at this level. Was a revelation for many of the Napa fans. Wish I had more!
