Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more

Classic haut-médoc, good core of fruit for a 12 year old, nice development with lots of spicy notes. Very good QPR at €12 en primeur. Good to drink now, will probably last 3+ years more but not sure it would improve from that.

It works. Spicy, elegant, with some tannic guts, rough back end but just opened.

Brought to angst house for dinner with Dan and Lora. Their neighbor Morgan joined us. Dan made halibut so wine was not quite right with food but really tasty. Opened it about an hour before dinner. Dan and I were the only ones drinking wine but it was great very smooth with a nice soft finish. 19years old and still going strong.

Fairly hollowed out middle of the road Bordeaux starting to show some age. Usually a pretty decent wine that hangs on well into its second decade but this one is a bit empty. Classical but lightweight - nevertheless, excellent value at £12. Gives up that classical Bordeaux palate before things were all dialled up to 11.

Blue and red fruit. Reductive aromas early, but blew off after couple hours decanting. Nose smelled of more alcohol than this carries. Tight and astringent at first, but opened up and integrated with some air time. Ripe blue fruit with some decent red fruit acidity to balance. Notes of caramel, leather, and tobacco. Tannins are fairly bold, but calm down as the wine comes together. Medium long finish Tasted again on day 3 and confirmed this wine needs some time to open and integrate. Still as good, and possibly better on day 3. Altogether, this wine is showing quite well for the price, and the freshness of the fruit says this has plenty of years ahead

The average drinking window for all vintages with a drinking window, 1985 to 2012, is 15 years, or to 2021. Excluding outliers '85 to '90, it is 13 years, or to 2019.

Still quite fresh, purple appearance. Quite jammy (raspberry jam) nose, pronounced with some chocolate and sweet spice notes. Good balanced palate, dark fruits on the attack and then the secondary notes take over in the finish with cedar and cigar box. It is light in the mid-palate and finish but it is drinking excellently. The kind of wine you could drink bottles and bottles of. Superb value although I do suspect this is an excellent bottle. Lanessan - when good - is extraordinary value.

Bright ruby colour belies its 14 years age, only slightly fading at the rim. Secondary aromas of leather immediately apparent with blackberry and other black fruits still well and truly there. The attractive nose is slightly let down on the palate. Firm tannins, but a little hollow on the mid palate.

A good table wine with a very good QPR. Pleasing nose of prune, mushroom, damp soil, and licorice and a palate showing sour cherry, prune, plum, licorice, tobacco, forest floor, and black pepper. Low/med acidity and tannins and a smooth finish. It is as good as it's going to get, and perhaps on the downward trend so drink now.

PNP. Cork perfect. Color dark garnet with bricking edges - opaque. Nose smoky medicinal cherry rhubarb and a bit meaty earthiness. Initial swish showed dense tannin that persisted but softened a hair after an hour. Sipping shows ripe pruny secondary fruit with tartish finish. Was great with lamb chops but a little tiresome alone. There is still fruit but not sure it will outlive structure and if there is an upside to waiting any longer. Will drink remainders in near term.

Red colour with a brickred hue.
Incipient maturity showing leather, cedar, stables, wet soil and black currant. Softening tannines and with lots of fruit left.

This bottle was much better than the one from the same case a couple of days ago.

2-5h dec. Plesent on the nose, herbal, hay. A bit simple, with e few high notes.
Kinda mellow first impression with mature notes, after a while it kicks in taste wise, with a purple bordeaux feeling... Can laydown for quite some more years. Good for the price.

Dark red colour with a brickred hue.
Maturity on the nose showing leather, cedar, soil, bay leaves and spicyness. Mellow palate showing maturity with soft tannines and well-balanced fruit and a nice long finish.

Matched the grilled fillet of lamb and halloumi very nicely!

Decanted two hours. Medium body. Not as much aroma as expected. Kind of tight. Still medium high on the tannins. Seems like it needs a bit more time to fully integrate. Dark cherry, oak, bitter dark chocolate, hint of black licorice.

Medium intense nose with aromas of brett, barnyard, hay, ceder, dirt, burned wood, wet leaves and a little tobacco. Very much what to expect from a mature Bordeaux.

Medium acidity, quite dry with medium tannins. Medium body, medium intensity and a rather short finish. Gets better after an hour or two, with a bit more fruit coming forward and the tannins getting a bit rounder.

I love the nose, very classic with decent depth and complexity. Falls a bit short, literally, on the palate. Probably better 3-4 years ago and has now lost most of its stuffing.

5-10 years ago the wine would probably receive a much lower rating, but it's ready to drink and will give you it's full potential for an modestly priced bottle. At a purchase price in the mid 20's it's far smoother and provides a longer tannin and leather finish than any California Cabernet priced within $10.

The wine looks ruby colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like mushroom, molasses and chocolate. It tastes like nutmeg. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Lovely and youthful at 19 years old. Very longilinear and elegant, a typical 1996, lacks typical Lanessan brawn on the palate. Finishes very long and fresh. Could be kept easily for another 5-10 years. Superb QPR.
