Medium intense nose with aromas of brett, barnyard, hay, ceder, dirt, burned wood, wet leaves and a little tobacco. Very much what to expect from a mature Bordeaux.

Medium acidity, quite dry with medium tannins. Medium body, medium intensity and a rather short finish. Gets better after an hour or two, with a bit more fruit coming forward and the tannins getting a bit rounder.

I love the nose, very classic with decent depth and complexity. Falls a bit short, literally, on the palate. Probably better 3-4 years ago and has now lost most of its stuffing.

5-10 years ago the wine would probably receive a much lower rating, but it's ready to drink and will give you it's full potential for an modestly priced bottle. At a purchase price in the mid 20's it's far smoother and provides a longer tannin and leather finish than any California Cabernet priced within $10.

The wine looks ruby colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like mushroom, molasses and chocolate. It tastes like nutmeg. The body is medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Dull and one dimensional. Previous writers have said enough. Not in a bad place, just thin and boring.

Lovely and youthful at 19 years old. Very longilinear and elegant, a typical 1996, lacks typical Lanessan brawn on the palate. Finishes very long and fresh. Could be kept easily for another 5-10 years. Superb QPR.

Decanted for about an hour. Showing some earthy, mushroom accents, but still seems somewhat young. I enjoyed it more than Ann who thought it was a little thin. I wish I had a couple more.

For me, this one is peaking right now. Still a good amount of fruit left, some complexity and decent acidity for an 03.

Bright rustic, austere and on the lean, crisp, cherry side, the nose, with its earthy, tobacco and cassis leaning, was much better than the palate.

Another go at this one! It's available at K&L for $21 so you can't lose. Getting pepper and mushrooms on the nose. As with last time, very limited fruit on the palate - more musty dusty leather, very soft and light, but very satisfying with a nice lingering finish.

Bohemian garnet, not very fine and clear with brownish light brim; opened with the nose of pencil lead, lots of wood and earth; after half an hour - some secondary smell of cooked fruits. On the palate – not too much alcohol, very little acidity and fully integrated tannins. Little bit too woody for my taste, but worked well with Gruyere cheese; short to medium finish. Definitely over the peak already… If you still have a bottle or two – drink now.

Goddamn, this is good, seriously good. Ethereal scents of inkberry, cranberry, cassis, loam, vitamins. A truly fresh and engaging bouquet. A bit grapey still, but with incipient savory notes, and round yet tangy profile. Light to medium bodied yet intense and long, and some dry tannins remain on the finish. This is one of the best vintages of this wine I've had, true to the house style while eschewing any flaws. Drinkable now, and over the next decade. Tasted from 375 ml.

very dark, still quite young colour, very good fresh fruit nose with concentration and class, good sweet fruit balancing inherent dryness on the palate with long finish, good wine, perhaps best to drink now and the next ca. 5 years when it still retains the fruitiness, not sure that the dryness may not dominate afterwards, good "young" Bordeaux dinner wine at the moment

Decanted for a couple hours then consumed over and evening saving a glass for day two. Upfront it was in a nice place with mature fruit and resolved tannins, just a hint of pencil lead and a medium finish. Day two it hollowed out a bit and is just not as plesant. I would drink these in the next year or two if you want them at peak.

Decanted 2 hours. Leather color w/pungent nose. Fair legs was a bit disappointed since the wine is from Medoc. Heavy plum, tar, leather. Good structure w/good tannins. Held well in the mouth with good backbone. Went well w/leg of lamb

Still mostly ruby but with some brick at the rim. Elegant and in great condition on the nose, with a subtle, classic, developing Bordeaux bouquet of cigar box, leather, and fresh and dried black cherry fruit, plus some baking spice from well integrated oak and perhaps a bit of mushroom. Somewhat less expressive and showing more age on the palate, mostly because the fruit is really fading into the background. There’s still a bit of cherry/currant juice there, but only just. The cedar and tobacco come through nicely though, and it still boasts a good coat of tannin on its medium-bodied, classically proportioned frame. The spice and oak show themselves on the finish, which is nice and dry, with good balance and length.

I’m surprised how developed it is on the palate given the color and the nose, but probably no reason to risk letting this go much longer. It’s drinking well now and showing some good class but not a whole lot more promise.

Wonderful wine for dinner with spicy merguez sausage.

Aromas are all secondary/tertiary at this point, mushroom and cedar and leather (in that order). The maturity of the aromas concerned me, but on the palate it still had a core of dark red fruit, with good mid-weight texture and a spicy finish. I have had other over-aged bordeaux that I couldn't stand, but this one still had some stuffing left, and was balanced too. And god, the price...20 bucks?!
I would certainly drink it this year and no later. Lamb is a good pairing.

Popped and poured. Compared to the 2011 Sottimano Pajore we had beside it, the nose was fairly subdued. The wine is generous but elegant and well balanced. Shades of chocolate, bell pepper and pencil shavings. Killer QPR. Very happy with a case purchase and I might even pick up some more as it is delicious now and should be a medium term ager.
