Moderately dark red ruby color with some bricking around the rim. Filtered / decanted. Pleasant old world nose of leather, some forest floor, a little tar. Palate similar to nose, but still tight. Consistent notes over 2 days.

Textbook cedar and tobacco. A big and dark-fruited palate suits the strong body. Everything is well-balanced. Nice tannins elide onto the finish with a hint of oak flavors.

Suspect nose with wet cardboard, wet dog, faint white pepper, and whiffs of vanilla. It gets better on the palate with red plum notes. Overall thin but persistent while it lasts, which isn't long. Somewhat unkempt and past peak, drink now.

Initially austere; with an hour or two developed with juicy plummy cedar and tobacco backboned lengthy opulence; tannins are rather soft but it is still not at a mature stage.

From 75cl, perfect cork. Decanted 1 hour, about right. "Lynch light", but delicious nonetheless. Cool cedar edge just what we wanted on a hot evening with barbequed lamb. 89P

Sipping now with good balance and subtlety of fresh fruits on the nose and smooth, mellow, silkiness on the palate with just enough grip to keep it interesting. An classy - think Royal Procession - finish that lasts fairly long. A most endearing palate that should lay down despite being a 2007.

I wasn't the biggest fan of this wine this evening. Difficult to say whether bottle condition or just the tough competition of the other '82s. Raspberry, honeysuckle, musty and sweet spice, light vanilla and white pepper. Palate has elements of the same with darker fruit and notes of black pepper but overall falls short with a slightly bitter back.

Allemand, Jamet, Burgs, Barolo, Yquem, and more: Licorice, leather, black currant, still lots of life but it is aging slowly. Fantastic.

Cigar box, tobacco, cassis and cedar notes are the first thing you notice. Ripe tannins and freshness, with good volume, richness and depth, which is still quite young. Give this at least a few hours of air, or let it age for another 8-10 years.

i was going to splurge for Father's Day, but good fortune brought some wine drinking friends to the house the day before. We cooked up some filets (very nice) and had this. This is a great example of Bordeaux which I guess is why Lynch Bages is so valued by wine enthusiasts. Opened the bottle two hours before drinking, decanted using a vinum and could tell immediately that this was going to be a nice wine. The nose was deep with fruit, dried berries and a bit of earth. The first taste two hours later was smooth, tannins were soft, acid/fruit balance was great and the finish was long and satisfying, giving nice fruit to the end. I would think this wine will be superb for at least 10 more years, and may improve a bit. However it is a great wine right now.

Wow. This was in a perfect spot. The fruit was still quite present, but with all of the depth expected with 15-16 years of age. Great balance. Delicious.

Tastes the way Bordeaux used to, like 1983 did in 1996. Medium to light bodied, cedar and plums, good acidity and resolved tannins. Medium finish with good linearity. I'd drink these to keep the fruit before it becomes all secondaries.

Lots of dried dark fruit, cedar, lead, almost floral?, similar palate which feels quite fresh and fregrant but unfortunately dies off on the mid palate leaving acidity and tannin feel

Le bouchon est complètement imbibé.
Ouvert et servi, puis laissé reposer en bouteille 30-45 minutes.
La robe tire vers le brique.
Le nez est la bouche sont sur les arômes tertiaires, tout d'abord sur la terre, les champignons puis une touche de viande. Encore une pointe minérale, sur une texture fluide, les tannins étant complètement intégrés. La finale est de longueur légère. Une pointe tomatée en fin de bouche me suggère que l'oxygène ne le lui laissera pas encore de nombreuses années. Superbe.

Etonnante fraîcheur, robe or paille. Bon équilibre en bouche avec amertume soutenue avec des notes de caramel. Le vin s'est écroule au bout de 2 heures, chose normale pour une bouteille qui a dépassé sa limite de vieillissement. Quel plaisir!

From magnum purchased at auction (so, unknown provenance). The cork was soaked about 60% through. Thankfully, the trustworthy Durand corkscrew pulled the cork perfectly. The fill on the magnum was very high which might explain the cork condition.

Still deep red with just a touch of orange on the edge. The nose screamed mature bordeaux with fruit, leather, pencil all playing for attention.

While this was definitely mature with a velvety, tongue coating texture, it was still quite fresh. Some finishing spice and pleasant acidity kept the wine interesting from sip to sip. Very long. Very excellent.

A magnum in this shape should continue to excite for another 10+ years, I'd imagine.

Still fresh with some red fruit, mushroom, bell pepper on the nose. Slight bricking on the rim but still more garnet in color. Very smooth body, with fruit still showing. Very long finish. Excellent.

Bordeaux wine dinner; 6/18/15:
Pichon Lalande 1990 - Lighter color than others, I think passing its prime. A little dry on the finish but perfectly nice still. 90
Gruaud Larose 1989 - Very classic nose and palate of cedar and pine notes. Most silky palate of the bunch. Two at the table thought it was wine of the night. Not as much to my taste but very much classy Gruaud. 91
Cos 1986 - Funky barnyard nose. Deep palate with still strong tannin, but plenty of fruit coming through. Liked it but there was some brett there that to me, hurt. 92
Lynch Bages 1985 - For me, the wine of the night, largely due to the truly stunning nose. A tad dry on the palate but still long finish of dark fruit. 94
