After being closed for a long time, this wine is slowly entering the drinking window. Dark purple. Nose of dark fruit with some vanilla, oak and a smoky touch, not as complex as the best vintage but additional age could bring out a bit more as well. Soft entry on the palate with good mid palate structure and balance, medium bodied. 93-94

My last bottle of this wine. Big graphite and muted fruit which to me caused it to be a bit out of balance but none the less an enjoyable bottle.

Purple with a core that light cannot pass through. Ripe nose with a gravel base. Smoky.Cafe au lait.
Ripe cherries. Blueberries.Blackcurrant. You can see the black-red lobules of blackberry.Fresh sweet tobacco. Full bodied. Great length. Elegant. Plenty of grippy tannins without any harshness or bitterness. Absolutely delicious. Can't stop drinking this wine. Riedel bordeaux glasses 14-16 degrees aired for 1 hour -seems to be the right settings for this wine. Completely satisfying now.

Blind tasting, red wine flight 3 wine #6. Dark garnet with youthful crimson hue.
Fresh lifted nose, elegant, lots of tobacco, cigar box, blackcurrant and nice ripe fruits.
On palate, medium bodied and elegant mouth-feels, exhibits earth, blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, some herbaceous notes and subtle tobacco. Some hints of sweetness showing good ripeness from the fruits. Long lingering finish with fine chewy tannins. Drinking very well now but it will continue to improve.

Big Bordeaux IX (Kevin's house 4/18/15. Lower acidity than the 86 Cos d'Etournel. Sweet round, soft tannins. Lots of fruit; both red and blue. Rich body; as Joe said "chewy". Complex palate. Fine wine.

Infanticide but what an incredibly good wine for the vintage. Dark purple to the rim with broad unstructured legs. Dark chocolate, tobacco on the nose with dark fruit muted in the beginning and after 30 minutes finding expression. Palate as the nose was creamy with integrated tannins and silky texture. Finish lacked the depth of the palate but my impression this wine will come together well over the next 5 years.

Tasted Blind - this was a Bordeaux tasting with a Rudd ringer, and I mistook this for the Rudd. The color was deep purple with black ink swirling in the depths - very curious. Sweet purple fruits and violet floral notes on the nose. Double-decanted, but still tight with raspberries along with vanillin on the finish. Delicious, and the wine of the night according to the group.

2nd of 6, perfect fill, decanted 2 hours, in 2012 almost undrinkable - now deepish, quite dense, mat red, little development; complex attractive bouquet, blackcurrant and plum, earth, tobacco, smoke, violet, trace of chocolate and spice; fullish, persistent, nuanced, grip, slightly dusty fruit, extracted but feels well judged, just about ready. Very fine (18.5/20).

This was good upon opening and got better over 3 hours. It has a strong pure dark fruit nose with no excess alcohol. It had crimson color with only slight lightening at the edges. Large scaled dark fruits and nice complexity. The tannins are mild and well integrated at this stage. The finish is medium to long in length. This will last, but it depends on how you like your fruit. I wish all off years developed so nicely.

Sweet, with an overlay of vanilla, honey, floral, lemon chiffon pie, grapefruit and green apple in the nose. Full bodied, rich and even with all that going on, the wine manages to retain its fresh appeal. The wine was produced from a blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Semillon, and 10% Sauvignon Gris. 93 Pts

Produced by blending 57.5% Merlot, 37.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 13.7% alcohol with a pH of 3.7 92-93 Pts

First Growths, Yquem, 100+Madeira (John V.'s): This was drinking beautifully. Showing just a hint of age at 14 years from vintage. Light golden in color. The nose has honeysuckle and wax on it. Crisp. Honeyed with red apples on the palate. Nice minerality. No oxidation. Complex layering. A last couple of sips at the end of the night were even better. Beautiful wine.

Big Bordeaux IX (Kevin's house): Slow -O for 2 hours, decanted for 60 minutes; drank 1 glass over 3 hrs and then had another small pour after that. Dense and rich, brooding. There is smoke and tobacco on the nose and palate. The palate is very rich with dark fruit and many layers. There is good complexity. Nice tannins. The wine overall seemed "chewy" at first and calmed down over time.

Big Bordeaux IX featuring '82 Pichon LaLande and Leoville Las Cases and More (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red color/purple color with a 5-7 mm transitional margin. Slow -O for 2 hours, decanted for 60 minutes; drank 1 glass over 3 hrs. This had a great nose that really developed over 20-30 minutes. This had pretty violets on the nose, red fruits that quickly give way to a core of deep rich black fruits with great purity, blackberry, cassis, and black cherry; scorched earth, damp earth and some sandalwood . The palate has great depth, a great layered core of blackberry, cassis, and black cherries, scorched earth, a little tar, deep and fresh, gravelly tannins, hints of wood and anise, glycerin, and a long polished finish. There was amazing concentration of fruit with a layered complexity. Man, I just love '90 Bordeaux. My #3 WOTN and group #2. 94+pts.

On the nose, smoke mixed with honey and this is complemented by a dry palate full of honey, smoke and nuts. Upgraded to 93 on day 3, after this has shed most of its abundant oak and turned waxy.
Good, but far from providing the same complexity as the 2007.

2005 Bordeaux Retrospective (Morrell Wine, 1 Rockefeller Plaza): The nose showed dark, intense fruit with savory herbs, spice, savory brown sauce, sweet balsamic tones and spicy floral notes. On the palate, it was supple and smooth with noticeable weight to its dark spiced fruit, plum, espresso, stone and minerals; turning more savory-spice over time. The intensity continued into the finish with dark fruits and balsamic tones lingering long.

needs 4-6 hours of decanting before it is even approachable, after which the nose does open a bit and starts to show a bit of cassis and dark fruit. the tannins do soften on the pallet, unfortunately the nose does not carry over, a bit flat. from here forward I don't believe the product justifies the price. The wine would be an ok Bordeaux at $16-22

Hmmm. Will this knit together? I'm not sure - today it was disjointed and rough. Coarse, heavy extraction with too much new oak for its own good. Almost Californian in its composition. It has a bawdy kind of appeal, but the Pessac isn't really coming through here and that's a problem. So if all of this ruckus integrates and lets PESSAC come through, it might work. But I wouldn't bet good money on it. Maybe I just got a bottle out of the Parker barrel.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (R&D's): An older color with a bit of bricking. Notes of iodine and tar, red berry preserves and green tobacco. Medium-bodied and integrated, with red fruit, herbs and iodine. The fruit dries out through the finish; this is not up there with the better examples of this wine that we have tasted. Easy to identify as Bordeaux, and I suspected this was our Pape Clement.

This had been quickly double decanted off its sediment two hours before the first flight.
