Revisiting Graves (Vinexpo, Bordeaux): This is a full on white. Imposing. Loads of yellow fruit. A hint of nuttiness - at least that is what I got from this barrel sample. But there is much substance on the mid palate. Full bodied, long finish, oak derivation. Score higher if you like the style.

Revisiting Graves (Vinexpo, Bordeaux): Well, for some reason this time around - as opposed to my experience in April this year - this barrel sample had more of an extracted feel, as I could notice more the coffee aspect from barrel derived tannins. And yet, the palate is medium plus in body with pleasing dark fruit and ripe tannins. Just a touch drying on the finish, which is fairly long. Lovers of this style should score higher.

This continues developing nicely. The complex nose kicks off with fresh citrus, peach, honeysuckle and vanilla notes that bring you to a fresh, lemony blast of fruit that is kept fresh, due to its ample levels of acidity. This is drinking well now and has room for improvement.

Secondary aromas of smoke, tobacco, wet earth, dark red fruits and lead pencil are already showing. Full bodied, concentrated and rich, the wine is silky, lush and the oak has mostly integrated into the wine, leaving you with sweet, velvety, ripe dark red fruits on the palate.

Au nez on est très loin de deviner un sauvignon. Riche, mur rappelant les fruits blancs. Bouche avec du volume, du gras et une allonge moyenne. C'est ce qui manque sur la fin.

Heavy bottle. We decanted the wine for ninety minutes before we had the first glasses, followed its development over a period of another three hours, then poured the remaining wine back into the bottle and drank it the next day. The wine was dark ruby in colour and offered stewed dark fruit, dark cherry, blackberry, truffle, vanilla, rosemary, sage and earth on the nose. On the palate the medium- to full-bodied wine showed stewed dark fruit, blackberry, dark cherry, espresso, cocoa, vanilla and rosemary, with medium to medium-plus acidity, medium-plus tannin and good length. The wine was ripe (almost syrupy) and oaky, yet seemed almost thin as in not backed by real substance, tasted a little bitter, I would even call it disjointed, and it felt as if the winemaker had pushed too hard for concentration. The wine seemed less disjointed and a little more complete on day two, but still left me concerned if it has enough true substance and will come around with time. Scoring reserved.

Drinkable, but as opposed to some other 06, I would wait. We gave this an all day decent, but the tannins are still somewhat overbearing. If you must drink, ok, but otherwise, I'm waiting a few years

Time to Taste 2000 Bordeaux (R&D's): Opens with aromas of perfumed florals- lavender and violets, along with tobacco, cassis and plum. Medium tannins. Flavors of black fruit and cassis, violets and earth with a long minute+ finish. Very perfumed and elegant, with herbal undertones. Adds red fruit qualities as it opens further in the glass. Hints of iodine emerge after another 30 minutes in the glass. 96+ pts.

As soon as I picked up the iodine I knew it was one of the Graves, and as open as it was, I assumed it was the Pape Clément.

My #3, Domino's #3
Group #1, 38 pts

Not as nice fruit as the 2006.
Less oak than the 2006, yet disturbingly overoaked. Needs at least 48 hours to integrate.

Westchester Wine School - Premium Bordeaux Tasting (Bar Lees, Mamaroneck, NY): Drank at WWS season-ending premium tasting (and had it last in 6/2014 at last year's event, tho Ned didn't recall bringing it). Drank this in final flight of the eve vs. 2005 Las Cases & 2006 Pontet Canet). My notes are entirely consistent with last year's tasting, tho the wine seems to be evolving--slowly--in the right direction. Deep dark ruby color. Generous nose of black fruit, tobacco, tar & some vanilla. On the palate, full bodied, still quite fat, lush and rich, bold and powerful, and very new world in style--a definite favorite of RP, though I'm unsure of the 100 pts rating assigned. Plenty of sweet ripe black fruit, toasted oak, tar, tobacco, & a bit of lead pencil. Tannins, to me, are quite prevalent, though on the softer side, yet with good acidity. Very nice length. This remains a very young wine which, though certainly accessible and enjoyable right now if this is your style, I believe its best days lie at least 5-10 years down the road when it should become more balanced, with more restrained fruit and more tertiary elements take hold.

Interested by the controversial TNs here on this wine, I was curious and opened a bottle a couple of weeks ago: weak, below 90 and past its peak. Next one today (to clear the stock): wow, what a gorgeous beauty! See felixp's TN (recent one here), he nailed it exactly! And indeed way to young. Due to the obvious bottle variation, I suggest to cellar it further more: if its one of the weak bottles, bad luck anyway, they don't taste good any more even now; if its a good one, it will be a stunner in a decade. Strong buy for the price (min. 2 bottles)! 94+

Not really at the unreachable heights of Haut Brion, but not that far away. And if you have ever tasted the tremendous 89 Pape Clement, you know what I mean... sadly the style of Pape Clement has changed completely in the last decade.

70s French Wines (Jade Palace Seafood Restaurant, Forum): After the impressive showing from the earlier wines I am getting nervous if this bottle can gives us a good ending of the night.
The appearance looks fine with Vibrant dark ruby and brownish rims.
The nice lifted bouquet gives me an immediate sign of relieve, elegant nose, still fresh and warm, showing spice, graphite, subtle tobacco and dried herbs, .
On palate, blackcurrant, plum and sour cherry interwoven with subtle herbaceous, dried herbs, tobacco and earth. Smooth and seamless mid-palate with lively acidity.
Long and satisfying finish with hints of menthol and fine grain tannins. Holding well and drinking well now. Almost at peak for me if not slightly over. Lovely.
I like this bottle a lot but 1979 Château Pavie has a slight edge with abundant of fruits and amazing youthfulness.

After being closed for a long time, this wine is slowly entering the drinking window. Dark purple. Nose of dark fruit with some vanilla, oak and a smoky touch, not as complex as the best vintage but additional age could bring out a bit more as well. Soft entry on the palate with good mid palate structure and balance, medium bodied. 93-94

Purple with a core that light cannot pass through. Ripe nose with a gravel base. Smoky.Cafe au lait.
Ripe cherries. Blueberries.Blackcurrant. You can see the black-red lobules of blackberry.Fresh sweet tobacco. Full bodied. Great length. Elegant. Plenty of grippy tannins without any harshness or bitterness. Absolutely delicious. Can't stop drinking this wine. Riedel bordeaux glasses 14-16 degrees aired for 1 hour -seems to be the right settings for this wine. Completely satisfying now.

Blind tasting, red wine flight 3 wine #6. Dark garnet with youthful crimson hue.
Fresh lifted nose, elegant, lots of tobacco, cigar box, blackcurrant and nice ripe fruits.
On palate, medium bodied and elegant mouth-feels, exhibits earth, blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, some herbaceous notes and subtle tobacco. Some hints of sweetness showing good ripeness from the fruits. Long lingering finish with fine chewy tannins. Drinking very well now but it will continue to improve.

Infanticide but what an incredibly good wine for the vintage. Dark purple to the rim with broad unstructured legs. Dark chocolate, tobacco on the nose with dark fruit muted in the beginning and after 30 minutes finding expression. Palate as the nose was creamy with integrated tannins and silky texture. Finish lacked the depth of the palate but my impression this wine will come together well over the next 5 years.

Tasted Blind - this was a Bordeaux tasting with a Rudd ringer, and I mistook this for the Rudd. The color was deep purple with black ink swirling in the depths - very curious. Sweet purple fruits and violet floral notes on the nose. Double-decanted, but still tight with raspberries along with vanillin on the finish. Delicious, and the wine of the night according to the group.
