Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

Still young looking, deep ruby. On the nose it is fairly open, not too precise on the nose but healthy cassis fruit quite subdued with a little cedar/oak woodyness noticeable. Nice and balanced in the mouth, mid-weight and fresh. Not a knockout by any means but a very nice lunch claret indeed!

Dark color, tobacco, leather on the nose. Palate was rich with just a hint of tannin among the mature fruit flavors. Really enjoyable. Drinking fine now and I suspect will hold up for quite some time to come. Light sediment. Best red of the year (so far)

Bordeaux Confidential SF (SF): Clear, bright, dark red with some ruby and dark garnet.
On the nose, it’s pretty bretty with some savory earth character. A little ripe, plummy fruit - warmer/riper fruit than ’06. Alcohol is slightly elevated [14%]. Much more extracted than ’06, more acidity. Tart dried cherries. Much better - quite primary. Youthful to developing.
Score: between 8.5 and 9.

Bordeaux Confidential SF (SF): (2nd bottle)
Slightly cloudy, dull, medium concentration dark ruby-garnet.
The nose has slight oxidization (bruised apple / acetaldehyde). Baked, plummy fruit (ripe to overripe). Some dark fruit character.
In the mouth, it is fairly well balanced, but a bit warm and low in flavor concentration. It tastes prematurely aged, like maybe a 20 year old wine, instead of a 12-year old wine. The fruit quality isn’t my favorite.
Score: Between 8 and 8.5

A bit of noticeable sediment.
On the nose, this smells like… fish. And it’s flawed - oxidized.

A lush and spherical wine. Has complex broad aromas of dusty black fruits, some red fruits, lots of spice, graphite and smoke. Its medium to full bodied palate is elegant as well as dense and superbly concentrated. It has defined, plush and layered smokey black and red fruits on the strapping middle. It ends longish, delineated and fresh with gripping tannins. A modern Pauillac.

nose- red licorice, berry compote, hints of coffee and caramel
mouth - very pure. nicely balanced between ripe fruit, solid mouthcoating tannins, and nice acidity. Clearly will improve, but already drinking beautifully with a fruit purity that
is reminiscent of Lafite. elegant. Drink or Hold.

Wonderful Pauillac immediately upon opening but gained depth after a decant of about an hour; not much sediment at all. Wish I had more.

My first bottle of a case of 12 bought EP and well-stored ever since. Almighty heavy bottle! Opaque purple juice. Enticing nose, almost shy (should have decanted?). Full-bodied yet refined taste giving you the real deal in classical Pauillac flavours. Yes, it finishes with a wall of tannins, but they are of the soft type and will melt away with time. To be revisited in one or two years, I'll take my time with these beauties.

The wine showed beautifully. The prominent feature of the nose is cigar box, reminded me exactly of the boxes my grandfather would give me. Beautiful, deep smell. Just wanted to keep breathing it. Some earth and leather but mostly cigar box. In the mouth the wine is beautiful. Little fruit, restrained tannin, all graceful Bordeaux masculinity. Leather, tobacco and cool earth. It was sad to finish the bottle, the last of a really good wine that significantly outperforms the vintage.

Tasted this at the Zachys Bordeaux Confidential tasting on 5/14/15. Blueberries, blackberries and currants. Full-bodied. Maybe not quite as complex as I would have liked, but still very enjoyable.

Decanted over an hour. Delicious, but still a bit tannic, closed. This was our last bottle of 2004 which is a shame since this vintage should continue improving.

Kelvin's Baby Shower (Burlamacco, Amoy Street, Singapore): Disappointing. It was not a bad wine, but I would really have expected more from any good Pauillac in 1990. The nose rather flattered to deceive – this had an absolutely classic left-bank nose, with cedar and pencil lead, earth and tobacco and a nice core of cassis aromas. Really quite nice. Unfortunately, the palate came across rather preternaturally soft, having a rather soupy feel to its cassis, cedar and light capsicum notes. Flavours were okay, the balance was alright, with a decent amount of acidity, but the tannins were very soft, almost a bit mushy as the wine slid away into a tobacco filled finish. I wonder if this was an off bottle. Served blind, it was pleasant enough but not great, this felt like it should have been drunk up 4-5 years ago.

The nose came across as compact, yet aching to explode, showing rich black fruits, airy spice, violet florals, a hint of grapefruit and bell pepper. On the palate, I found firm, palate-staining wild berry fruits and herbal tones with silky textures giving way to tannin. The finish was long with lean dark fruits and inner floral tones in a very chiseled expression—yet the slightly green characteristics here reminded me more of a cool-climate Cabernet, not Pontet-Canet.

The nose was dark, almost sappy, with intense pine, cedar and menthol, followed by floral perfumes and crushed raspberry fruit. On the palate, it was rich with silky textures, giving way to young tannin. A mix of tart wild berry saturated the senses with a gorgeous sense of balance throughout. The fruit here lingered long upon the senses with hints of inner floral tones and tannin.

The nose was beautiful, with cool, restrained dark fruits, floral perfumes, earth tones and a hint of menthol. On the palate, I found silky textures with a dense, massive wave of dark red, blueberry fruits and minerals, which seemed to envelope its youthful tannins. The finish was almost completely shut down with dried-out dark fruits held tight by imposing structure. I imagine 2010 Pontet-Canet may outlive me.

This is a truly stunning young Pontet-Canet, with its large, dark persona, yet it somehow remained cool toned and wonderfully fresh. The nose displayed crushed dark berry, floral tones, and a hint of pine, minerals and smoke. It was like velvet on the palate, with underlying sweet tannin, showing rich dark fruits, balsamic tones, spice and baker’s chocolate. The finish was long with saturating fruit, which slowly faded to reveal a zing of acidity and young tannic spine.

With an intense nose that hinted at both the sweet and savory, the ’08 Pontet-Canet showed notes of red and blueberry, sweet spice, rich reduction sauce, and hints of moist soil tones. On the palate, I found silky textures with a medium-weight frame and a veil of ripe red and black berry fruit, which seemed to nearly mask its youthful tannins, while notes of spice, graphite and a hint of citrus saturated the senses. This lasted long throughout the finish, as its fruit slowly faded into fine tannin. This is a dark beast of wine, yet elegant and in need of time in the cellar. This should be amazing in 5-10 years’ time.

The nose showed tart red and blue fruit with floral tones, a hint of bell pepper and dusty soil. On the palate, I found lean textures with a slight green character to its red fruit. A mix of acid and tannin buzzed across the senses, leaving notes of bitter cherry and minerals on the finish. This is not a bad wine, and it would have probably shown better if not surrounded by so many superior vintages; but on this day, it came across as the weakest wine of the tasting.

The nose showed dusty soil, hints of spice, minerals, cedar and crushed dark berries. On the palate, I found brilliant red fruits with contrastingly dense textures and building tannin. Fruit saturated the palate throughout the finish, yet it was kept in check by youthful tannin. I’m very interested in seeing where this wine will go with time in the cellar.

The nose was, at first, dark and brooding, but it came to life with time in the glass to reveal dried red fruits, balsamic tones, dark soil and minerals with a hint of undergrowth. On the palate, it was unbelievably smooth, with medium-bodied textures giving way to ripe red fruits and a hint of sweet herbs. The finish showed remnants of tannic grip with notes of cherry liquor and red licorice, yet a slight lingering heat detracted to a small degree.
