°°° Bordeaux 1985 °°° (Emmen, Switzerland): Deep red. Nose shows tar, roasted coffee and dark fruit. Plenty of power. Nice sweetness. This is a quite easy drinking wine. The only negative are the somewhat dry tannins, but this bottle definitely was a pleasant surprise as old Pontet Cantets are often difficult. Drink now

Much Better than previous bottle. Cork 3/4 soaked, very good bottom neck fill. Still a healthy garnet with very slight browning towards the rim. Sous bois and a very slight corked note on the nose, still good fruit on the palate, tannins resolved, short to medium finish. Very little sediment in the bottle

Wanted to check in on this wine to see where it is on its evolution journey. A few observations, the nose is somewhat muted, but I love the concentrated licorice, cedar, and spice that was coaxed from the glass. You just have to dig for it. Once you find it, it has a great nose. Love the licorice! The nose reminds me of a less noble version of the '86 Mouton that I had 2 years ago, which tells me this wine has more life ahead of it (despite the controversy surrounding the '03 vintage). On the finish, it has smooth, round, and patially resolved tannins. A little leaner on the finish for a Pauillac from the '03 vintage. I was hoping for a little more fat in the mouth for this baby Mouton. Will be fun to check back in on this wine in 3-5 years.

A great youthful Pauillac.
Tannins were firm, but not harsh at all. Some indistinct ripe fruit mixed with leather and tobacco. Long finished in the beginning. Well balanced but I could fee the alcohol.
It felt a bit closed and after 4 hours opened passed to short - yet good - wine.

Popped and slow oxed for 10 hours before dinner. Great showing. Packed with classic Bordeaux scents and flavors like cigar box and cedar. Not necessarily fruity, but more savory and earthy. This is just entering it's drinking window at 20 and will easily go another 20. Nice wine.

extremely enjoyable wine during a wine tasting, very smooth on the palate, filled the mouth, earthy, a bit of vanilla, creme de cassis, velvety texture. Drinking very nice now, a little soft, not the best year, but a sleeper I think, delicious wine...

Dark-red and brillant colored.
Smoky bacon aromatics forward. Little dark berry fruit but mostly tertiary with leather, cigarbox, herbs (rosemary!), grilled tomato and animalistic notes. Liftes by freshness of mint and orange zest.
Fine sweetness and licorice.
Smooth, and harmonious, yet robust and long on the palate.
Finishes with beautiful and cool spiciness of (green) pepper and licorice.
Elegant and harmonious wine of drive, depth and robustness.

Opened for 1 hour and then decanted for 1/2 hour before drinking. This has a wonderful nose of graphite, blue fruits, sour cherry. On the palate it is all earth with mushroom, sage, aus jus. Very smooth, full bodied, long finish. Nice acidity on the finish though a little weakness after two hours make me wonder about the future but I expect the backbone to carry it though. Definite improvement from 1 1/2 years ago from our last bottle.

A little reticent fragrance, but improves with time in the glass, dark berries, balsamic notes, tea leaves, cedar wood, shoe polish - very nice and exotic profile. Long and firm taste with cool fruit, well rounded finish, framed by soft and firm tannins. Will wait four-five years to open the next bottle.

Fantastic fruity nose. Had a bit of a high alcohol taste to it, but not enough to interfere with the other flavors in the glass. Tannins need a bit more time.

Blind Tasting of 13 reds, 1 white and 1 Champagne at Behrens am Kai in Dusseldorf

7th Flight together with Pichon Lalande 2000

A lot of cassis, crispy black currant, fresh acidity, not that balanced as the Comtesse 2000, the tannins are too strong in this stage, a lot of power and minerality, next try in 5 years probably, but long fruity finish. 93 - 94

no real winner in this flight

Dinner at Tosca (Tosca Restaurant, Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Hong Kong): Decanted for 4.5 hours before taking to the restaurant. It is still a teeth-staining dense and thick red-purple colour. The nose just jumped out of the glass and filled the room........ dep, deep, rich essence of St. Julien with superb fruit concentration and purity....as if a Michelin chef had created the perfect blackcurrant pastille....lots of graphite, really linear in the perfectly machined black slab way. Palate has become more rounded since I last drank it. Very extracted but not in a bad way ( I generally don't like extracted wines), mouth-coating in texture and sensation, still lots of new oak and the tannin on the finish is quite austere with the same 'black slab' sensation as the nose. This has become a younger, more structured and more serious wine in the recent times I have drank it and I think that something extremely good will emerge over the next 5 years or so. A triumph for the vintage.

Opened up with a 2.5 hour decant. A deep blood red ruby color. This bad boy opens up to dark fruit bomb with cigar box on the nose. On the palate there is absolutely amazing balance. Tannins are integrated wonderfully. The fruit bomb continues with a burst of plum cherry, cassis and blueberry. It's wonderfully full bodied and drinks almost like a viscous elixir that concludes with a great long finish.

This is drinking fabulous today but I am sure will continue to impress into the future.

Double decanted for 4h. The star of the evening at tonight's office wine party, gone in about 20 min. Expressive red fruit and earthy notes on the nose and palate. In a really nice place right now.

Leafy, blackberry, cedar and spices. Really good structure and a mineral core to the fruit that gives it freshness and lift. Prefer this by an inch to the 2009, just because it has a little more drive and a little more restraint to the fruit. Really long, this has plenty of class and potential.

Dark color and leathery aroma upon pouring. Very nice structure and depth of fruit, with blackberry, cassis, and mineral notes. Tannins still prominent, but should soften and improve with more cellar time.

Bordeaux Confidential USA, nose of cassis, currants, no plum, more red than black fruit here, more of the same on the palate, lovely, open , ready to enjoy, medium body, no downside just not up to its peers today, the 2006 and 2009, long finish.

With my apologies, as this is a bit from memory. Very nice bottle. Classic Bordeaux. Tannins almost sweet. Certainly well resolved.
Benefited from breathing for a little while (45 min). No need to rush, although I am not certain how much improvement is in the future.

Så ung, dekantera minst fyra timmar innan den skall drickas. Fantastiskt vin med bra koncentration, mycket frukt och fina tanniner. Bra eftersmak, klassisk bordeaux. Kommer bli super med tiden
