Opened for 1 hour and then decanted for 1/2 hour before drinking. This has a wonderful nose of graphite, blue fruits, sour cherry. On the palate it is all earth with mushroom, sage, aus jus. Very smooth, full bodied, long finish. Nice acidity on the finish though a little weakness after two hours make me wonder about the future but I expect the backbone to carry it though. Definite improvement from 1 1/2 years ago from our last bottle.

A little reticent fragrance, but improves with time in the glass, dark berries, balsamic notes, tea leaves, cedar wood, shoe polish - very nice and exotic profile. Long and firm taste with cool fruit, well rounded finish, framed by soft and firm tannins. Will wait four-five years to open the next bottle.

Fantastic fruity nose. Had a bit of a high alcohol taste to it, but not enough to interfere with the other flavors in the glass. Tannins need a bit more time.

Blind Tasting of 13 reds, 1 white and 1 Champagne at Behrens am Kai in Dusseldorf

7th Flight together with Pichon Lalande 2000

A lot of cassis, crispy black currant, fresh acidity, not that balanced as the Comtesse 2000, the tannins are too strong in this stage, a lot of power and minerality, next try in 5 years probably, but long fruity finish. 93 - 94

no real winner in this flight

Dinner at Tosca (Tosca Restaurant, Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Hong Kong): Decanted for 4.5 hours before taking to the restaurant. It is still a teeth-staining dense and thick red-purple colour. The nose just jumped out of the glass and filled the room........ dep, deep, rich essence of St. Julien with superb fruit concentration and purity....as if a Michelin chef had created the perfect blackcurrant pastille....lots of graphite, really linear in the perfectly machined black slab way. Palate has become more rounded since I last drank it. Very extracted but not in a bad way ( I generally don't like extracted wines), mouth-coating in texture and sensation, still lots of new oak and the tannin on the finish is quite austere with the same 'black slab' sensation as the nose. This has become a younger, more structured and more serious wine in the recent times I have drank it and I think that something extremely good will emerge over the next 5 years or so. A triumph for the vintage.

Opened up with a 2.5 hour decant. A deep blood red ruby color. This bad boy opens up to dark fruit bomb with cigar box on the nose. On the palate there is absolutely amazing balance. Tannins are integrated wonderfully. The fruit bomb continues with a burst of plum cherry, cassis and blueberry. It's wonderfully full bodied and drinks almost like a viscous elixir that concludes with a great long finish.

This is drinking fabulous today but I am sure will continue to impress into the future.

Double decanted for 4h. The star of the evening at tonight's office wine party, gone in about 20 min. Expressive red fruit and earthy notes on the nose and palate. In a really nice place right now.

Leafy, blackberry, cedar and spices. Really good structure and a mineral core to the fruit that gives it freshness and lift. Prefer this by an inch to the 2009, just because it has a little more drive and a little more restraint to the fruit. Really long, this has plenty of class and potential.

Dark color and leathery aroma upon pouring. Very nice structure and depth of fruit, with blackberry, cassis, and mineral notes. Tannins still prominent, but should soften and improve with more cellar time.

Bordeaux Confidential USA, nose of cassis, currants, no plum, more red than black fruit here, more of the same on the palate, lovely, open , ready to enjoy, medium body, no downside just not up to its peers today, the 2006 and 2009, long finish.

As good or better than I remember. Rich fruit and nuanced cedary nose. Medium-high acidity on palate and a lovely texture for such a big wine. Finish is rich with elegant tannins and a a long aftertaste.

With my apologies, as this is a bit from memory. Very nice bottle. Classic Bordeaux. Tannins almost sweet. Certainly well resolved.
Benefited from breathing for a little while (45 min). No need to rush, although I am not certain how much improvement is in the future.

alas I only had one bottle of this - found a a very good price years ago in a supermarket in rural France (hidden behind some other bottle). Totally classic Pauillac. Dark crimson colour and peppery nose. Elegance, structure, complexity and balance... What's not to like.

Så ung, dekantera minst fyra timmar innan den skall drickas. Fantastiskt vin med bra koncentration, mycket frukt och fina tanniner. Bra eftersmak, klassisk bordeaux. Kommer bli super med tiden

Decanted for a day. This is ready to drink if you have a case. If you only have a few, wait. The strucure is substantial, the finish is lengthy and hopefully I'm interpreting correctly that there is a lot of promise and future here of complexity and interest as we see the move toward secondary and tertiary. Should move up in score if it fulfills the promise.

This bottle is in great shape; I see some tasters have not fared so well...

Only a touch of evolution on the nose - Pure dark plum and asphalt tinged deep black cherry compote notes spread out on the expressive, salty oak notes like jam on toast.

Palate is much of the same - very pure and ripe fruit with freshness. Long finish and considerable tannin as you would expect form 1995. Almost clinically pure.

This wine is very good and set for the long haul though at the present moment lacking individuality that would make it a truly great Bordeaux.

Kommt langsam in ideale Trinkreife; nach 4 Std. Belüftung wirklich schön integrierte Tannine. Wahnsinns-Nase, Dunkle Beeren, Struktur und natürlich tolle Länge. Moderne Stilistik. Unbedingt riesiges Glas nehmen! Ging mit Riedel Somm. Bordeaux sehr gut.

First from a case bought at auction. Decanted and kept chilled in a tub of water for 5 hours (which is crucial). For the hell of it, I had a sip at pnp, and the nose was magificent and mysterious, with the familiar PC cedar and depth...and then more depth, sort of like realizing the mineshaft suddenly has a whole new vein you didn't know about if you had the '03 or '06 or '08. I actually had the thought "Oh my lord, I'm smelling eternity." Tasting it, however, was stupid. It was like being flung into the middle of a Jackson Pollack of confusing elements that finished with a cassis blowtorch. Five hours later, however, I was having an experience that seems pretty much like most people's from their notes: a little bit of "uh-huh" and a whole lot of "oh yeah." It kept getting better and by the 8th hour open, it was elegant yet robust, and the finish was endless, sun goes down moon comes up, oh it's still going on. And this might sound nuts, but I was starting to get notes that reminded me a bit of the '66 Haut Brion in that post-fruit, post-exuberant maturity. Not that it's anywhere near there, just that like seeing on-coming lights on the highway, you know there's something out there, approaching, eventually. This is magnificent and all that they say.

Nose with black berries, tobaco, cassis, wood.....extreme complex and integrated palate reflecting the nose with a dusty pencil led finsh - not a heavy weight but lots of character; still quite good acidity and a nice soft tannin frame...lingers on and on....

In a field of Bordeaux this time this wine comes across as boldly red fruited, with hints of cab. franc stem coming through (in a very charming way) and silky smooth on the palate. Long mineral finish, very integrated tannins. Just opened.

One of the strangest wines I've tasted in recent memory. Decanted about 8 hours. Thin, dessicated, very little fruit. Improved somewhat over the next couple of days. I'd probably give this an 80, but I'm going to assume this bottle was bad, perhaps stored in a hot warehouse for years. It wasn't corked and didn't really taste oxidized. Not a pleasurable tasting experience.
