Very much enjoyed this wine. Bright and dramatic with flavors of fig, marzipan, and touch of hibiscus. Deep luscious, with a long finish. Can't see how anyone would dislike this wine.

Copper; white raisins, apricots, kumquats, yeast donuts, lychees, cloves; semi-sweet, raisin, apricot, 3-fruit marmalade, honey, creamy, decadent, good acidity, excellent balance, good structure, long finish.
Syrupy marmalade, clover honey and brioche. Complex with high pedigree. Drinking well now but still evolving as it breathed. Delicious with blue cheese.

A comfy Sauternes wine that is ready to go, but will go and go for a long time. It is charming, encroaching on complex...Lots of melted sugar and succulent acid to balance it. Its good, good candy...

Allemand, Jamet, Burgs, Barolo, Yquem, and more: Liquid creme brûlée. Mixed with a little 2013 Pepiere Clos de Briords, the added acidity and floral elements really makes it take off.

Fresh apricot, honeysuckle, mango, creme brulee and honey. Undeniably a good wine but difficult to assess at this early stage. Almost too one-dimensionally sweet at this point. Will inevitably develop more depth of expression but until then falls short of being a great Yquem. This requires a good deal more patience.

Yet Another 60th Birthday Dinner (The Hills of Northern California): Half bottle. Light golden color. Soaring nose of utter refinement and complexity-honeyed, high tones, orange, apricot, and lord knows what else. Unbelievably fresh fruit, perfect weight, poise, balance, and length. If I seem at a loss to better describe individual components, it is only because everything is so beautifully tied together. Hardly the biggest, sweetest, or most concentrated example of Yquem, but absolutely stunning and the epitome of elegance. I'd imagine that from larger formats, it could easily remain at this lofty level for another 20 years. While I tend to prefer stickies from other regions, the acidity, (relative) lightness, and lift are tremendously inspiring here.

With a nose that won’t let go, due to the intense floral, apricot, honey, pineapple, vanilla, custard and white peach aromas that take over the room. On the palate, the wine is rich, sweet, intense, long and fresh, serving up the difficult combination of honey coated fruit and acidity.

K&L Bordeaux Tasting (K&L, San Francisco): Light golden color; floral, light, elegant, botrytis spice, very complex nose; palate has salinity, great acidity with vibrancy, now some tropical fruit, pineapple, picks up some body, great sweetness; finish is long. Nose is effortlessly light but very complex, while the palate has the density and richness as well as a superb vibrancy. A superb Sauternes and an excellent yquem, and I'm curious about how this new style of yquem (closer to barsac on the nose) will mature. The last time I had this it improved for at least a week, and this time was better than even the best from last time. 96-98++.

Honeysuckle, pineapple, botryoides nose. Palate of petrol, pineapple, and almond. Good persistence, and though it's rather big it's fairly light. Good balance and can't imagine it not improving over the next decade. Hold.

This is a perfect wine in every way. Light and airy on the palate while demonstrating deeply pitched flavors of honey, coconut, and tropical fruit. Still showing incredible youth with many, many, great years of drinking ahead.

I've often heard that you really cannot drink enough Yquem, can you? While I really believe that's true, I'm looking forward to the day we find out for sure. Sip after sip of laser focused, perfectly ripe, tropical fruit, citrus, apricots, vanilla, white peach and nectarine all slathered in honey with incredible levels of freshness made each sniff, swirl and swallow a treat. This is quite primary, but the fruit and textures are so gorgeous, it's difficult not to love the wine in your glass.

Two bottles with pannacotta & summer fruits to round off our annual Ure salmon fishing dinner party. Plenty of salmon in the river, but levels are low, so they are all resting in deep holes waiting for fresh rain to fall up the dale. A 45lb fish caught recently on a spinner at Naburn, and a 30 lb fish on the fly at Jervaulx. Back to the Yquem -- mature honey colour, but not yet dark. Fine nose of honey, lanolin & grain. Complex flavours with a touch of biscuit, noticeable acidity, mature, delicious, and with plenty left in the tank. Some fine residue at the end of both bottles.

Time to Taste 2000 Bordeaux (R&D's): From 750ml, courtesy of our hosts. Initially a bit reticent, this opened some in the glass revealing aromas of honeyed citrus, orange zest and cloves. Lighter on the palate than the BAs, with flavors that follow the bouquet. A bit simple, but there's nice fruit and acid. I preferred the BAs tonight.

Informal notes, but there's certainly a reason this was declassified. Minimal botrytis and complexity with a watered down palate and body. While this is certainly very young, I don't have high hopes for it.

Light gold. Nose was shy compared to previously. But with swirling and time all glories awoke. Flowers, apricots, caramel, honey. Taste never quit and overwhelmed the mouth, in a good way. Stopped conversation. Wow.

Wine dinner at Blacksalt - Prévost, Krug, Pichler, Raveneau, Fevre, Grivot, LLC, Yquem & etc. (Blacksalt, Washington DC): I am a big fan of the 03 D’Yquem. The nose displays intense sweet yellow fruits, apricot, pineapple, mango, sweet spices, ginger and creme brulee. Incredibly concentrated yet precise and airy due to strong presence of acidity, intense jammy yellow fruit driven palate impression and lovely long finish. The overall expression remains very sweet and intense but somehow still retains the precision and airiness. This will always be enjoyable but may take another fifty years to reach the peak. Relatively speaking, great QPR.

Wine dinner at Blacksalt - Prévost, Krug, Pichler, Raveneau, Fevre, Grivot, LLC, Yquem & etc. (Blacksalt, Washington DC): The 88 is a great D’Yquem but this bottle is a bit advanced. Very ripe yellow fruits, burnt sugar and sweet spices. Lacking the precision and airiness that I associate with the 88 D'Yquem.

Typical Yquem nose with intense honey and apricot. The palate it loaded with yellow fruits honey and sweet nectarine. It doesn't have the acid of a great Yquem but some time should mellow out the sweetness some. Might have been too warm.
