4/21/2024 - ylkim30 Likes this wine: NRYe Olde Riesling Dinner (SDK - Castro): This is electric with racy, (borderline searing) acidity with a complex palate of crushed rocks, herbs, lemons, a touch of smoke, and a interesting reddish fruit note. Where the Hollenpfad feels airier and lighter, this is brooding, almost creamy, and dark-toned in comparison.This was great and it would be interesting to see what will happen with this wine as age helps to uncoil the acidity. |

Very elegant, it also has mouth-watering acidity. Not the flashiest of the Donnhoffs (that would go to the Dellchen), but perhaps the most elegant and lissome, etched with filigreed details. |

Not flabby, with plenty of mineral cut, and if I had it by itself (which I did last time I had this and enjoyed quite a bit back then), it would be a good wine. But it was just simpler than the other Donnhoffs and was plain outclassed. |

Glad to have some stashed away to watch evolve over time. |

Palate is plush and very sweet. Great fruit and spice. Not electric but sneaky acid inthe back they keeps it light. Super creamy and excellent into the finish. Peachy and melon? I’m not a huge Donnhoff fan but for me the verve of 2017 helps make it work. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20. |

Beautiful aromatics - riper peach and white cherry mixed with tarter lime and pear fruit, and gentle floral and honeyed accents. The palate is very similar, dominated by the youthful fruit with a mineral undercurrent that becomes more apparent on the back end. Lovely wine, the kind of Auslese that's perfect at the table with food, rather than a botrytis-heavy dessert wine. |

Steely and insistent on the palate, fairly saline towards the finish and with fruit that's so magificently austere it's even more bitter than grapefruit. Really quite herbal too. And so fucking dry. Wow. Worked well with pork shoulder and apple in a cider cream sauce. |
