La Tâche Grand Cru Pinot Noir more

So pure - classic, dense with harmony, delicate - a happy wine that has divine finesse. Has the classic green notes that Aubert talks about, and is so right to do so!

When it was poured against the 89 Richebourg, La Tache and 93 GE, it was much thinner on the palate. Nice aromatics of sweet red currant, potpourri and minerals. The fruit was slightly tart.

Good but not a great la tache. Opened up with more time in the glass. Dark fruit driven. Got the DRC structure but missing the La Tache sparkle. Still young. The 89 Richebourg outshined it tonight.

Very good. More dark fruit driven with spice and perfume. Powerful yet silky. Long finish. Outperformed the 89 La Tache as it was more expressive and open.

Spice, perfume, flowers and a mixed of red and blue fruit on the nose. Great structure with lots of power and finesse. Still young. This bottle has changed my perception of 93 DRC which has generally been disappointing. Very good.

Great breadth on nose. Soft palate of moderate depth. Tea notes, soiles tones, and mature fading red fruit. Mature and perhaps caught this bottle at an absolute peak. 94-95

At first it’s all sexy, spicy nose. Then it begins to slowly evolve on palate—black fruits, spicy, succulent. Wonderful rusticity. Needs another 4-5 years to show more fully I think.

Bourgogne 2002 tasting. Many top wines from some of the best producers, Rousseau, Roumier, DRC, Leroy etc; 3/28/2019-4/28/2019 (Restaurant Palægade, Copenhagen): Incredibly beautiful nose which to me is different to other top Vosne wines like for example Cathiard or Leroy, but I can't put my finger on precisely what it is. Perhaps it is a little darker expression, but stil floral and sweet fruited. This wine was also lovely in the mouth with impeccable balance. Other tasters pointed out that it was somewhat shorter than the other wines in this flight and that was correct. Still it was a magnificent wine, that I in retrospect think should be rated higher, but I did put 95-96 on the paper that night, so I will leave it at 96.

Commander’s Palace. Massive spice box aromas of clove, nutmeg, & cinnamon. A bit of raw young red fruit on the palate which picks up nice depth with each sip. Long spice finish. Still a baby, yet screams breed & class. Long finish & very giving with a dry edgy finish. Needs time, yet very pleasurable even now. Could be 96 in time.

Purchased off the LAGCC list for $1250, bargain of the century. Pop and pour, consumed over a 3 hour lunch. Bright, full deep red color. Soaring and complex nose of sandalwood, cherry, anise spice and bitter chocolate. The palate is deep and rich, densely packed, sappy and sweet, offering a distinctly three-dimensional texture to its intense dark berry, spice and truffley underbrush flavors. Complex but firmly tannic finish that shows a bit austere today but leaves the palate vibrating with DRC spice and flowers. This wine screams DRC from the nose thru to the incredible complex and beguiling palate. Outstanding and should drink even better in 15-20 years.

Heidi's Redux: More Heavy Hitters (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN): Medium red color with a lighter transition to the margin. PNP, drank a glass over 2 hours. Wow, this has a stunning floral nose. And it's not just floral, it is intense and multilayered, like being in a beautiful garden and getting a constantly changing tickling of the senses as you recognize each variety of flower as it makes its way into the olfactory canal. I don't know that I've experience that level of purity of different floral notes on one wine before. This has a medium body with a brilliant silky texture. The tangy red berry fruit are still very pretty and this is deep and I want to say lush, in a most positive way. There's more complexity coming from the spice and particularly the herbal notes here, hints of dillweed and other green herbs. The tannins are soft and melded in and the finish is expectedly long. Loved this. Thanks to Brad to sharing this.

Very intense, concentrated - and so young; lots of power here, some oak showing, and I really think this is to early. Coming together slowly in the glass, showing what it is made of - but wait for this.

Annual gathering with Chicago winos in Chicago – DRC RSV vertical, Selosse – Lieux-Dits and etc. (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Expressive nose displaying bright red fruit, cherry, a hint of blackberry, light caramel, rose, a hint of stem, cappuccino, cinnamon and earthy mineral. Nicely integrated palate, finely layered bright red fruit, silky and round, medium acidity, stemmy mineral and a long clean red fruit driven finish. My guess is the 09 as it is not showing the strong stem note. Really nice showing.

DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Single blind in 09/10/11/12 flight. Opened 5 hours before serving with no decant. Lots here, but imperfect balance, giving a slightly off kilter character, particularly on finish. Good ripeness and density for the vintage. Needs plenty of cellar time. 91+ points tonight, but lots of upside.

DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Single blind in 09/10/11/12 flight. Opened 5 hours before serving with a 5 minute double decant. The most unmistakably "DRC" of the flight with Ripe red and black fruit alongside complex spicebox. This kept changing more than any wine over the time this was in glass, and even through each taste. Its size and elegance made me think this was the 2010.

Big and dense and certainly enjoyable, but I found this to be the most backward and least harmonious of the flight. 90-91 points tonight, but clearly lots of upside.

Very rich and spicy with ripe red and black cherry and berry throughout. Hints of complexity emerged after 30 minutes in glass, with black tea and espresso emerging on finish. But clearly backward. Ripeness and exuberant youthfulness made me think this was the 2012

Good weight and length, very refined balanced. In its peak drinking window now. Very good now, but not even close to the quality of the Richebourg.

DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): Served single blind alongside DRC RSV 2007. Complex combination of savory and sweet spice with charming red fruit and good weight. Near perfect balance, much like the RSV, but much more layered and slightly more dense. Already in its peak drinking window. Most diners correctly identified which wine was which, and while I clearly preferred Richebourg, the group was more mixed.

DC/Chicago Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Smyth and The Loyalist - Chicago IL): In DRC RSV 93/96/98 flight. Open 4+ hours before serving. Black and red fruit with good richness and balance, yet somewhat compact, and nowhere near the complexity of the wines in the other two glasses. Very good now, probably still better in another 5-10 years. Consistent with prior experiences with this wine.
