Saw it at a bar for a reasonable price for a 2oz pour. Nose was all warming spices and baked apple. The palate was caramel and orchard fruits with a weight that comes from liquor at this proof. Goes down so easy and smooth, wonderfully balanced and delicious.

The 90 La Tache dinner also 05 Coche CC, 88 Krug and 01 Rousseau CSJ (Decanter restaurant, St. Regis): The 05 Coche Corton Charlemagne was a slight letdown and I am a bit nervous. Pop and pour, the cork is perfectly moist and elastic. Quick sniff at the bottle, the wine seems correct. A small pour to a Zalto burgundy, I am speechless and becoming very emotional. The nose is simply perfect, beguiling interplay of unbelievably complex tertiary notes and incredibly explosive perfectly ripe hedonistic pinot fruit. Everything that you look for in a perfect Burgundy is present in abundance, decadent black fruits, Vosne spices, sous bois, truffle, cornucopia of flowers, roasted coffee beans, licorice, liquid smoke, stem, perfume and incense to name a few. The palate is also perfect, intense, subtle, precise, fresh and energetic all at the same time. It is certainly ripe reflecting the 90 vintage but still remains perfectly fresh, precise and balanced. The finish is never ending. This is perfect now and will remain perfect at least for the rest of my life, transforming like the monumental 62. Truly an emotional and spiritually uplifting experience. From the same batch as the last bottle drank last year.

Took a while to remove the very fragile cork. Initial nose full of tertiary old wine flavors and slight chalkiness. Cleaned up nicely after 30 minutes in glass, the fruit is holding up well for such an old burgundy, able to stay in form for more than 2 hours. Time to drink up!

Krug Dinner with Some DRC (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Open, decanted almost 2 hours before serving. Still not much forthcoming on nose, but lots of dense, meaty fruit flavors with baking spice. Most 1998 Grand Crus are entering their peak drinking windows, but this wine needs more time. 89 point nose, 95 point emerging flavors.

Bristol with Krug. Primary aromas of dark sweet black-red fruits. Not very showy today and seemingly closing down. Dark dusty quality with nice fruit purity and impressive texture. A sleek mineral driven wine today with nice balance, although on the simpler side due to the primary nature. Hard to really assess the long term.

What a lovely, smoky terroir here, also featuring mixed berry compote, mint, herbal teas, anise, cinnamon stick, charred earth, gravel, and wafting notes of tar. The wine exudes elegance and charm. It features medium plus to high acid, a profound mouthfeel, silky texture, and a finish that does not quit. Drink through 2030.

Krug Dinner with Some DRC (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Open 2 hours before serving. Great Asian five spice, particularly on the nose. Nicely mature red fruit, most enjoyably on the palate. Aromas slightly better the flavors, but this is just incredibly alluring in every regard right now.

Krug Dinner with Some DRC (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Open, double decanted two hours before serving. Superb spice driven character, unmistakably Vosne. Mature red fruit, but none of the bitter or green notes that I often find in 2004s. If served blind, I'd have thought Vosne Grand Cru from 1998, perhaps 2000. Excellent now.

Krug Dinner with Some DRC (The Bristol - Chicago IL): My first time trying this wine in this vintage. Opened and decanted ~45 minutes before serving. Lots of baking spice and red fruit with moderate density. Slight green, stemmy hints that I didn't find endearing, even if on the subtle side. Certainly needs time, at least to 2020 or later.

low fill. classic drc nose of great purity, elegance, and transparence: the essence of PN; reminiscent of the 62 but less rich. tannins completely resolved, but still some real grip in harmonious slightly spicy, deep, brooding fruit of great length. not up to the 62 or the 71, but still a great wine.

2012 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): Peach, pineapple and loads of oily tropical fruit. Touch of sulphur. Pure and sleek on the palate. Almost painfully intense with searing, focused and piercing flavors. At times this was like a young Sauternes. Super long, intense and elegant finish.

2012 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): Much more purple in color than the LT. Wonderfully fragrant. Airy, pure, spice with a touch of stem/pine. Also slight reduction but much less so than LT. Lovely sweetness of red, blue and black fruit. Touch of mint. Somehow this is more reserved than any other wine in the lineup yet it has more flavor. Loads of detail waiting to come out over the next few decades. Love the blue and purple fruit. Very subtle, super fine grained spice. Long, long, long pure finish.

2012 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): A surprising amount of reduction on the nose. I am guessing a bit on the score. By far the most detailed palate that is incredibly complex and airy with delicate yet powerful spice. Beautiful harmony, sweet, bright red fruit with rose petals and Asian spice. The nose is really difficult to assess, but I am sure it will match the palate in time. Long, lingering finish.

2012 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): Firmer and more reserved than the RSV. As expected, a bit more stern, robust and less finesse. This did soften after about an hour. More dark fruit, spice, touch of reduction and noticeable tannin. Touch effervescent. "Richebourg is the bodyguard of Romanee Conti" says AdV. Powerful and will need a lot of time. Sturdy finish.

2012 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): Candied red fruit, roses and other floral notes on the nose. Pretty, soft and refined. Vibrant on the attack, but then fades somehow. Nice spice but there is an odd burnt rubber/metallic taste on the finish. Others enjoyed this more than I did. Love the detail and the nose, but the flavor profile is somehow off vs what I would expect.

2012 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): An even deeper nose of dark fruit, wet stone, grilled meats and spice. Although the spice is more refined than the Ech and the nose is not a forward. Brooding. Much more complex and detailed on the palate. Elegant with a long finish with plenty of layers. For me, this boxed above its weight in the lineup.

2012 DRC Tasting (Paris, France): Much darker than the Corton. Much more forward with greater volume on the nose. A clear step up. Outstanding spice with red and black fruit. Very powerful on the palate, touch of oak and stems but still elegant. Fresh, vibrant and racy. Not really complex, but the red fruit and floral notes are so alluring. Medium finish.

Incredibly polished palate, airy yet beautifully layered fruits, exceptional purity and precision, perfect harmony and seamless finish. The palate reminded a great pomerol, very polished and silky, layered beautifully and airy. Exceptional palate showing a glimpse of the greatness.

Very precise and lean palate, medium acidity, still noticeable tannins that are not bothersome and seamless long finish that ended with Vosne spice. A great example of perfectly mature Burgundy.

Barolo and Burgundy dinner - 79 Cristal, 89 & 93 DRC Ech, 05 RSV, 10 Rousseau CdB and etc. (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): Surprisingly big scale for a DRC Echezeaux. Slightly stewed intense red fruits, tomato, cherry, strawberry rhubarb pie, a hint of Asian spice, sautéed mushroom and earth. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered fruits, dense sweet and sour stewed red fruit driven palate impression, strong earthy impression, bright acidity, nicely integrated tannins and lovely long finish. Really interesting to compare with the 93 as this was the bigger wine with more concentrated and layered fruits where the 93 displayed the intoxicating pure 93 nose that we all love. Both were really enjoyable but I preferred the 93 slightly for the nose.
