No formal notes. After party wine of a fantastic evening! Red fruits, good garrigue and some pleasant barnyard. Not extremely concentrated, but still youthful with good acidity and friendly tannin. My blind guess that it was a 2004 was correct. Beautiful and elegant C9duP.

Quite bretty with barnyardy, funky, animale/worn leather notes, along with soft macerated stewed dark fruits; medium soft and lightly chewy, lower acid at this point, easy going, structure seems to have faded a bit, but grew on me with the Korean ribs and a hot summer night outside.

So sad when unicorn bottles are flawed. Not corked, not cooked, but not all there, sad because you could tell what might have been. Very odd, very tart red fruit finish.

Getting better with each year in the bottle, and definitely longer lasting than I initially expected. It needs at least three hours to blow off the HUGE funk upon the initial open (which wasn't there in '13) and is great on day two. Once the brett blows off enjoy the funky garringue, blackberry bramble reduction and the rich blood sausage. The tannins are going so so soft and the fruit wonderfully rises as the bottle opens up. I thought that the light acids would hurt its future, but I think it has another 6-8 years easy before it starts to wind down. Had it with grilled rack of lamb, and oh wow, was it ever gorgeous. With this meal it was at least a 97.

Great bottle. Textbook CdP, earthy, ripe but not over done. Drinks well right now and not for long term ageing.

Allemand, Jamet, Burgs, Barolo, Yquem, and more: Fruity and fairly ripe, but with enough savoriness to keep it in check and no brett at all, a very good effort for the vintage.

1500 Parker Points of Wines (GHT): Wow. This was my WOTN and although not unanimous, seemed to be the groups WOTN too. And, not what I expected. This is clean, and not a monster wine at all despite having 16% alcohol. Purple/ruby in color. The nose is complex and great with black cherries, black raspberries, grilled meats, lavender and anise. Clean, no barnyard. The texture is amazing. This is light on its feet as it dances on my palate. I hear people talk about a wine being sexy, well this is it. Complex. Ethereal. One of the top wines I have ever had.

The best 07 CdP I've had. Some prune, but it doesn't predominate. Downright tasty with steak.

Brought 2 bottles of this to Agricola to share with the MIT Peer group. Drank after the Peter Michael Ma Belle Fille. I had decanted these ans re-bottled prior to going to the restaurant, they had about 90 minutes of air time before we drank them. Fair amount of sediment in this wine.

Medium brick red, some cloudiness fading color. Some bricking at the edges. Barnyard/brett when first opened that fades as it opens. Nose was red fruits, herbs, garrigue, floral, tree bark. As it opened we picked up some honey caramel in the bouquet. Palate of red fruits, dried cherry, savory meats, pepper, smoke. Classic Grenache driven CdP...

Still a rich and powerful wine, now getting all the secondary characteristics that make Rhones both rustic and complex. A healthy decant is a must with this wine to allow it to show. Its in a great spot right now, the crowd loved this one. WOTN for about half

During a merchant tasting. Medium purple. Expressive nose, so typical of Pegau with a clear animalic/bretty touch, grape stalks, dark fruit and some meat. For me this vintage has just a little bit too much funk (I clearly prefer the outstanding 2010). On the palate medium bodied with good aromatic complexity. Could be cleaner on the fruit though.

Garnet, opaque. Fairly viscous, slow-moving "legs". Pronounced complex aroma of blackberry, black raspberries, plums, burnt wood and coffee all mixed together. Dark, rich, concentrated fruit flavors, mouth-coating, builds on the palate, some anise toward the end, which carries through to the very long aftertaste. Coarse texture, not as elegant compared to Bordeaux. Rustic. This is absolutely outstanding and perfectly balanced. Drinkable now but still has moderate tannin and alcohol and should become a bit softer with another 2-3 years.

Continues to drink very well. That being said this bottle reflects that as this wine moves down the maturity curve its abundant fruit is being replaced by some additional complexity, it will be interesting to see this wine rebalances at the next point on the curve.

Pegau hit grand slams in 2003 and 2004. Rarely does a winery make 2 such extraordinary wines back to back in such different vintages. Having had both in the past few weeks it is easy to see both the vineyard and vintage in both. You just can't ask for more than that. Full dark ruby. Sweet red fruited nose with incredible garrigue. Intoxicating. Full mouthfeel but restrained. There is big flavor penetration yet wonderful balance. Great juice. (98)

Dark garnet, completely opaque, with slight browning at the edges. Powerful complex aroma of blackberries, cassis, leather, tobacco, coffee, with just a hint of prunes and raisins. Amazingly viscous...the "legs" don't start to come down for 15 seconds. Powerful full body to match, coarse texture but perfectly balanced; cassis, blackberries, touch of anise. Mild-moderate tannin but very soft, doesn't interfere. The flavors continue to build and build, becoming more intense. Aftertaste is extremely long, a bit hot, that same hint of raisins. The wine had not deteriorated six hours later, still going strong. Nearly perfect, I think this is fully mature and should not be held longer.

Number51 nailed it on this vintage. The only real addition is that it is early and it should evolve but I wonder if it will drink much better. Excellent balance is what brought my enjoyment. Aromas are so complex and balanced it is hard to discriminate yet the differences cry out for expression. Beautiful dark black fruited color with well structured sensual legs lingering on the glass. As suggested the alcohol is balanced and acidity is resolved after 15-20 minutes in the glass. Interestingly among the floral notes, rich deep dark black fruit there is a meatiness with smells and taste of salumi with the fattiness and some spice that are reminiscent of good salumi from Sicilia.

TN: Rhone dinner (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): This is so much better than the previous bottles and I wonder if there is a significant bottle variation. Beautifully perfumed nose displaying kirsch mixed with chambord, black cherries, fruitcake, dark spices, a hint of garrigue and earth. Exceptional concentration, dense and decadent blackberry driven palate impression, nutmeg, good acidity, only a hint of the 03 roasted fruits, nicely integrated tannins and very long finish. This quite expressive bottle shows very nice balance. Still quite youthful and another ten years of cellaring will add more garrigue and tobacco. I wish all the bottles show like this.

TN: Rhone dinner (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): Slightly leaner style for Pegau. Mostly black fruits, black cherry, fruit cake, tobacco, licorice, dill, tar and ash. Good concentration, slightly dry black fruit driven palate impression, slightly metallic, good acidity, slightly rustic tannins and medium finish that ends slightly coarse. At least one person thought it was tired. My guess is that it was slightly angular from the get go. It will work well with a steak or lamb chop.

This vintage is drinking very well right now-full of blackberry, garrigue and the tannins are resolved so it's smooth and very enjoyable. Opened at a wine dinner full of Cabernet, it was a standout and the bottle was emptied toute de suite.
