Ripe apple, flowers, cinnamon, and minerals on the nose. Well balanced, good acidity. Notes of honey and apples on the paste. Long finish.

Wow! This wine explodes from the glass and then explodes in the mouth with a 60 second finish. Drinking from a 375 ml bottle with only 30 min in the decanter. While this wine will last for another 20 years, it is incredible now. Unctuous, juicy, sexy, thick, and packed, supremely packed with delicious Napa Valley Bordeaux grape varietals. Still has grippy tannin, but the nobility of this wine powers through the tannin. Delicious!

Ginsberg and Chan Singapore Steak Supreme (Wooloomooloo Steak House): Well preserved, this had a hint of cloud on first contact but then snapped back into its youthful vigour, with lovely cherries, blackberries and leather. A find body and decent finish shows this is aging remarkably well. To be enjoyed.

Decanted for 4 ½ hours

Color: Deep purple inki-ness with clear edges.

Nose: Black raspberries, little bit of mint, herbaceous like you’re in a field.

Taste: She Batted her eyelashes, maybe not so good; okay not much there. Hollow with limited fruit edges bound together with alcohol. Nothing to it. Glad we’re drinking it now. Our humble opinion says, this is probably way past its prime. Pop it and drink it, do not decant. Overall; it was ok.

TGIF (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): So good, and from what I could tell, in perfect balance. Aromatics were deep, somewhat savory, and dark. Layers of earth, cherry, earth, and spice were woven together seamlessly. Palate was vibrant and fresh with nice acidity and soft, sweet tannins. Big fan of this.

What a classic Napa cabernet. Fully evolved at this stage, but no signs of decline at all. A slightly herbal nose with just a touch of green pepper, balanced by some lovely secondary animale characteristics. It's weird, I'd have a hard time seeing how wines made today will turn into something like this. The palate was very much alive, with a good balance between some drying fruit, leather, and earth. Nicely restrained, with soft but present tannins.

Wow. Very minty, bay laurel, wild, almost fennel, so complex and undeniably California. Unfortunately the palate is drying out and seems flaccid in comparison to the Lynch Bages alongside it. Fully mature and should be drunk.

I agree w CapitolHack. Our bottle condition was excellent and the wine was fresh with great core of dark luscious fruit and lovely layers of earth, cocoa and a bit of spice. Last bottle. Time to begin opening the Insignia...

When 20+ years old, most wines that were highly rated upon release do not live up to their young ratings. This one does and, at 30, is gorgeous. In fact, Parker's 95 rating about 2 years ago is probably low. Upon decanting, this wine showed brawny and big, with lots of tight fruit a lovely eucalyptus nose. An hour later it smoothed out and became a perfectly balanced, intense and rich cab. Really quite exceptional. While wonderful now, it should drink well for at least a few more years. Stored at 55 degrees, humidity controlled, since release.

Beautiful old school Cali Cab. Captivating bouquet with mint, florals, cassis. Fully resolved, silky palate that just lacks a little structure and nuance. Wonderful.

The ruby color is beginning to show the slightest signs of age/development, but the nose and palate have yet to develop to their full potential. Glossy, texturally rich and tasty, this leaves me wanting more - more cellar time. HOLD another 4-5 years if you're wanting more than just a comfort food; I'd love to see it again in 10-12 yrs, actually.

Slow-ox 2 hours, served non-blind.

Much darker than I would have guessed for an 18 year old wine. Beautiful nose that was reminiscent of a big bowl of macerated fruits (blueberries, blackberries and black cherries). Those flavours continued onto the palate which was thick and full, with no harsh edges. A long finish lingers for over 30 seconds. Delicious! www.advinetures.ca

Moving wine around in my cellar and decided to try a bottle, realizing the 2011's can be troublesome, I decanted through a vinturi and let sit for a couple of hours. My efforts were rewarded. Dark fruit on the nose and the palate is blueberry, current, tobacco with just enough oak, a nice long finish which brings out the flavors of red plums.

This is a great wine, but it was a bit overshadowed by a 2000 Colgin TH. Came across as just a bit more heavy and less light on its feet. Nice fruit and spice characteristics, but not the same acidity to create the balance. Still, delicious wine and paired very nicely with a steak.

Dark purple plum in color. A glorious nose of blackberry, mint, eucalyptus, rose and cedar. Interesting palate. Initially lots of black fruits, earth and tobacco. No tannin, balanced and long finish. This was popped and poured. Drank about half bottle over 2 hours with small pours with each glass consistently beautiful. With last glass, however, a tannic quality emerged. Not sure what this means.. In sum, a great bottle, but a few more years is suggested.

From a 375. Deep orange fruit, exceptional spice, good purity; palate is full bodied, great concentration of fruit, balanced acidity, fresh, fades through the midpalate though and lacks a bit of persistence. Maybe the best showing so far. 90-91

My last bottle. Supposedly well past its peak, but it was just fine (although i wouldn't recommend holding any bottles much longer). Pretty much what I had expected - beautiful nose, silky smooth, rich, great finish, yadda, yadda, yadda. However, it didn't even come close to "exciting". Very good wine, but it didn't (doesn't) justify its extravagant price tag.

shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. i usually don't do a pop and pour on a wine that still has a few years ahead of it but reading the highly complimentary notes from other members made it irresistable. i also needed to determine whether to go back and buy more. it looks like chardonnay is a relatively new project for phelps. as with everything else that he does, he gets this right. the wine has everything one could ask for in a cali chard or any chard for that matter. golden color. abundant aroma. multi-layered in the mouth. perfect balance between light skin seeded fruits, lemon, butter and acid. a memorable wine. i think i would abide by galloni estimated longevity in this instance. a bit pricey for me but worth the splurge.

Quite dark color. Fairly volatile nose, but also with strong oak and currant. Very rich on introduction to the tongue and palate—lots of black (currant and blackberry) fruit with a strong suggestion of chocolate. Definitely a big, mouth-filling wine. “Sweetness” may be from the fruit or it may be from the alcohol. Very tame tannin suggests to me that this wine may have plateaued. Looking forward to having this one with grilled beef, tonight.
