Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

Last red of the evening and not so many specific notes. In the bouquet dark forest fruits, luxurious oak, cigar box and sweet spices. On the palate the same dark fruits and sweet spices, chocolate as well. Beautiful acidity and soft tannin with still a soft bite. Very tempting, harmonious and delicious wine. Ready now and the next 5+ years.

Have coravin'd several glasses out of the same bottle; first glass was disappointing and shallow. Another pop glass from the same bottle three months later showed an aged new world nose of leather and ripe berries. Fine-grained tannins provide some up-front edge, but this is otherwise a fruit-driven offering, showing ripe black fruit with a modest finish. Much more enjoyable but still not a wine for long-term aging. Concur with 2018 drink-by date.

Popped at June cookout. Great bouquet and ripe tannins. Almost there, but could have used another couple years. Still, ridiculous.

Medium-deep, reddish garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward, attractive and complex nose of well-developed & mature ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blueberries & cassis with overtones of mint/eucalyptus & cedar, floral notes of violets, green olives, dusty, tobacco, dried herbs, some cocoa, leather, earthy, spices & minerals in the background. Medium-full bodied with good concentration of smooth textured, elegant, developed & mature, complex, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with herbs, spices, minerals, cocoa, olives, earthy and a hint of toasty oak. Lingering smooth & polished finish. Drinks quite well at present and appears to be at its peak of development and doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. [From a 1.5L - A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot & 20% Cabernet Franc]

Outstanding!!! Like an aged Bordeaux. Red fruit, leather, wet cedar, dark chocolate. Very silky smooth. What a great wine. Excellent from start to finish.

Lovely Napa cab with appropriate age on it. Just like a second growth left bank bordeaux. Solid cassis and red fruit over silky integrated tannins. Grateful I have a few bottles left. Note: cellared at 56 degrees since purchase if that makes a difference to you.

Dark garnet color, long and smooth finish. A bit of spice to it as well, almost Zin-like....Overall nice and a solid bottle.

A different style of Savignon Blanc. Crisp fruit up front but with a buttery (Malolactic?) finish. Well composed and balanced but atypical for Sauvignon Blanc.

Very intense and rich, but without being heavy. Perfect tannic structure, with aromas of violet blackberries, tar and notes of violet (petit verdot). Still extremely young, will probably be at its peak in 10-20 years. In a way, similar to the 2005 Lafite-Rotschild I had this week. Grand vin...just not ready yet.

Brilliant green tinged gold with the slightest haze. Nose is filled with lemon and nuts. High toned. Rich mouthfeel but not overly viscous with strong lemon character, tangy acidity, and just the slightest hint of vanilla on the finish which should melt away in time. A very respectable and enjoyable Chardonnay. Very Burgundian in its finesse and I'm really impressed to see this style from a larger name Napa producer. Could be a good sign of things to come.

From vineyards in the west of the Petaluma Gap. Very vibrant gold color. Nose shows oak and CA style right away, vanilla, butterscotch, creamy citrus. Palate shows that as well, but not the oak bomb you fear it be, nice fruit, warm apple, pear, then malo kicks in, buttery style, medium acidity, balances out well.

PnP. Burgundian or Beaujolais-like even with a bit of a new world punch. Notes of raspberry, plum, and cranberry with slight floral notes and a crisp acidity. The tannins are integrating nicely and making for a very pleasant drinking experience right now, but should continue to do so for a few years.

Did not decant. Color is a rich garnet, but not opaque, with a slight touch of bricking on the edge. Incredible aromas of blackberry and black currant as soon as I pulled the cork. Immediately upon tasting I enjoyed bold and intense flavors punctuated by an astonishing, youthful exuberance and power. The wine was utterly balanced with legs and heat that belied the indicated 13.5% alcohol content. A coating, lasting, and jaw-clinching finish followed, that continued to make me salivate between tastings. One of the best bottles of ANY wine that I have enjoyed to this point. Spectacular right now.

Bright cassis, pencil lead, dark spices, tumeric/anise; palate is soft, heavy, well structured, medium+ tannins. Prefer the Hillside select over Insignia.

Araujo Dinner, Mostly Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard (Milwalky Trace - Libertyville IL): Popped and poured, served alongside the Araujo Eisele 91/92/93 flight. Started with great spice and mature black fruit and tobacco notes. This faded precipitously and was far less pleasurable after 30 minutes in glass.

A silky smooth glass of deep purple, tasting of chocolate, black coffee, ripe blackberries, black currant. This is a fine, full-bodied wine, its intense ripeness cut with a hint of green and a flinty edged finish. It was almost too much for the salmon burgers it was paired with, but ultimately we decided the wine played well with the salmon and the minty creme fraiche dressing lightly slathered on potato buns, which brought out the lean, vegetal aspects of wine. Drinking this versatile pinot noir with, say, grilled lamb chops might bring other flavors into prominence.

Lead pencil, cherry, smoke, good structure and woody. Felt that this was an older wine with an older style, fruit has started to go down-hill. My blind guess was Dominus. My 8th wine of the night, I would drink up as the wine is not drinking as well as it has in the past.

Decanted for 45 minutes...tasted during progression. This wasn't wine of the year by mistake! Drinks really well right now. Still has some legs to run a bit further...nice blend of red and black fruit... Balanced with a fruit entry but still has a nice composition of dirt and cassis and leather on the finish. Enjoy now or wait a year or 2.
