Deep purple color. Smell is very fruit forward - dried fruit, hint of oak, smoky. Taste was balanced throughout. Very enjoyable.

dark and opaque. bouquet is rich and fruity, jammy, vanilla, with some flinty and dusty notes. palate is big, bold, juicy, full bodied. some mild acidity still hanging around to prevent it from coming off too flabby with some welcome tannin on the close. this is full throttle stuff, fully mature and ready to drink.

Definitely a little past it’s prime. Although I cellar are 54° so wines regularly continue to improve beyond their “recommended date.” But maybe this one shoulda gone a couple years sooner. I bought a case and this is the last one so ultimately it is okay….

Grapey again. Solid in the mid palate with fruit, grippy at the end. Nice mid weight.

Usually blended with a touch of Petit Sirah. Smells quite grapey on the nose. And grapey on the mid palate as well. A little bit of tannin there on the finish.

That smells super waxy and lees stirred. Palate is more crisp and cool but still with that soft fruit character.

Dark and inky as expected. Primary fruit that finished a bit hot and harsh even on the second day. Pretty solid PS for the price.

Good fruit and smooth tannins. Lacking a bit of acid at this stage. Big red fruit, cassis, mocha and wannabe leather. Drink soon.

04/22/22 : first impression - struck by the overt sweetness on the palate. Full bodied with medium tannins. Dark sweet, overripe fruit is dominant. Very smooth finish but not complex. Will follow up on 2nd day. 2nd day same...full bodied, overly sweet.

Retail $30. Heavy Bottle. While I do not know for sure, since the tech sheet on this wine does not offer any insight, I think there might be some Petite Sirah in this wine (although I could be wrong) as it is fairly dark in the glass, has a near overload of fruity blackberry on the nose, and the Mettlers grow a ton of PS. Just a hunch. As I said, quite fruity on the nose, with tons of berry fruit (mostly black), a hint of vanilla, loads of coffee, and a touch of spice. The palate is much of the same, although the fruit is more in balance with added depth and more of that spice. Don't get me wrong, though, this is a fun, fruity wine that is best with tacos, barbecue, or a back patio.

Retail $25. Big. Ass. Bottle. This is now the third iteration of this wine that I have tried and while the bottle has not become any lighter, the wine has remained rather stellar. Fairly dark in the glass (which makes me suspect there is some Petite Sirah here), with loads of fruit and spice. The palate is likely a Zinfandel lover's dream, with wave after wave of fruit, a zingy acidity, and a more than admirable finish.

Excellent wine. We had it today 12-22-2021. Long finish. It fills your mouth. It went well with Fruta di Mare and Spaghetti Neri. The combination was exquisite. Floral and fruity.

2nd of six bottles opened. This one more enjoyable than the first. Seems like it's starting to come into its own although still has a lot of room to grow. Rich jammy fruit, generous oak and plenty of grippy tannin.
