2012 Miner Family Cabernet Sauvignon Benedetto

2/6/2016 - bestdamncab Likes this wine: 93 points

At Miner Family Winery today, I tasted their flagship wine which is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 9% Merlot, 1% Malbec, and 1% Petite Verdot. Nose of black cherry fruit, more of the same on the palate, rich fruit but subdued, big body, needs four years in the cellar to peak, bottle tasted was opened three hours earlier, long, flavorful finish.

This is a blend of 48% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot.

Opened for the Super Bowl and it was a much better wine than the game. Bouquet of currants, black cherry, white pepper, briar, and dry forest floor, more of the same on the palate, big body, delicious, good complexity, almost elegant, mouth coating fruit, paired with Cheetos, Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Dark Milk Chocolate with Salt and Almonds, long, long, flavorful finish.

White flowers, white peach, pear, lemon and lime aromas and flavors. Leads to a soft, dry finish. Good acidic balance. A good QPR.

2007 Miner Family Merlot Stagecoach Vineyard

2/6/2016 - Sheldog Likes this wine: 92 points

This Merlot again reminds me of what a great vintage 2007 was. The evidence of pronounced fruit still persists although the graceful aging of this wine has put the blackberry and black cherry into the background where it is now harmonized with notes of cassis, cigar box, cedar with the finish yielding a smoothness of a fine piece of chocolate.

This wine is drinking perfectly right now and there ant not a lot of residual tannins but it should continue on for a few more years yet. Good job on this, Miner!

A perfectly serviceable Grenache purchased from the Last Bottle Marathon. As many others mentioned it is very light. Light in color, light in body and light in flavor. While light it doesn't have any particular off notes and at sale price is a fine midweek bottle.

It’s always great to get a wine from the Miner Family Vineyards. Known as the wine of presidents, Miner wines have been honored to be on the menu at six official presidential dinners. That’s the definition of carry weight, right there.

Tonight, we are sipping on the 2013 Miner Family Sauvignon Blanc. It is blending very well with grilled Tilapia, stir-fried spinach, and gnocchi. This crisp Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is fermented and aged in stainless steel. There is the aroma of stone fruit and freshly cut herbs, followed by grapefruit-melon flavors.

An impressive showing for a 14 year old Californian pinot. Quite dark, with evidence of a little bricking at the rim. Good aromatics, spicy, dark fruits with forest floor and vanilla undertones. Ripe fruit dominates the palate, with sweet cherry to the fore with just enough acidity to maintain balance. There's was a hint of heat on the finish, which didn't bother me too much.

Nice wine, good fruit hints of vanilla and bell pepper. A solid finish but when considering the price this is a very average wine.

Elegant, Finesse & Rich: Plushy smooth and great layers of flavors, which paired stupendously with our wild rice and grilled filets. Had just enough dusty and integrated tannins hold its own with the lean filets. This wine continues to confirm that Miner Oracles are best in the 8 - 10 age range.

BUTTER. BOMB. This wine was served more on the chilled side, and allowed to warm throughout the course of the night. Served pop and pour. Poured a medium straw color into the glass with a thick meniscus. Nose was initially quite muted. After warming up, I was really only getting a little movie butter and a hint of honeysuckle. On the palate, this wine expresses MUCH better when closer to room temperature, so these notes are with it closer to this side than the chilled side. The front of this wine is glycerine - butter and more butter! Cut through the jalapeno and chile in the soup quite nicely. The front is more mango, butter, and still getting a touch of honeysuckle towards the middle and finish. Almond and pistachio towards the middle and finish. To me, the wine was a little flat towards the back. Acidity is tame, and tannin as well. This one is much better with nuts, brie, and dried cranberries or with a meal, but isn't really the best "drink by itself" wine. If someone opened this bottle I'd drink it with them in a heartbeat, but I won't be buying more of this. This wine will NOT appreciate any more in the bottle, so best to drink it when you have the occasion!

Decanted 3 hours. Drank alongside a 2010 Vincent Arroyo Napa Valley PS. This wine was everyone's favorite. The nose was a bit muted but pleasant. The palate was smooth drinking and balanced with black cherry, cedar, light black pepper and medium tannic finish. Great food wine.
