3/2/2012 - Tim Heaton wrote: NRAerate to decanter 1 hour. Even more lovely than the bottle I had over 2 years ago, this is still freshly perfumed, with vibrant red and black berries, potent acids and grippy tannins. In an excellent place right now, but shows the structure for 3 more years of very solid drinking ahead of it. The EToH is noticeable, but remains at a distance, allowing the fruit and wood nuances to show their charms. Really pretty stuff. 15,8% abv, score: B+/A- |

3/1/2012 - Tim Heaton wrote: NRAerate to decanter 1 hour. So, I had a bottle in September, not a great showing. Then I had another bottle a month later, much improved. Four months after the last bottle, this is positively singing and at peak right now. Medium ruby core, bricks toward the rim. If I was double blinded on this, I'd have guessed abv% at 14, not a tenth more. Opens with funk, but quickly moves to red currant, spice, bramble, a touch of vanilla and red licorice. Medium+ body with cool acidity, and grippy, fine-grained tannins. Some black tea and milk chocolate present with the last glass. Positively out-shined the food tonight, to the point that I pushed the food away and vastly preferred the wine for no other reason than it had better quality ingredients. This has structure for mid-term cellaring, but is quite enjoyable right now, as well. Drink thru 2016, 15,9% abv, score: B+/A- |

2/18/2012 - Tim Heaton wrote: NR2nd day juice. Very bright dark fruits, black licorice wrapped around a dusty, earthy core of lively acids. Moderate tannins. An excellent by-the-glass choice for restaurants. Not showing the structure for mid or long-term cellaring, but what it lacks in that department, it more than makes up for it in the drink-me-right-now category. Moderate finish. The perfumes, and the sweet, bright fruits are really singing on this day. Drink thru 2013, score: B+ |

2/13/2012 - gutt22 wrote: NR14.9% alcohol. Black cherry color. More approachable than the 2008 was at the same stage. Blackberry and black cherry fruit are wrapped up in a mineral cloak with good earthy notes. In the mouth, quite expressive and nicely perfumed, with good, pure cherry fruit tinged with blackberry and plenty of earth. A bit of heat on the back end. B+/A- |

2/16/2012 - Tim Heaton wrote: NRPnP. Deep garnet core, no sign of age. Let me begin by saying that this is probably the finest Pinot I've yet had from this producer (and I've had a lot), and if it were in a blind line-up, I'd have been in Burgundy and not Sonoma County/RRV. A very complete wine, this is one of the rare examples we find that shows superbly in its youth but offers compelling structure and depth of fruit to age for at least 15+ years. A nose I would be content to smell all night were it not for the volume of lovely pinot fruit carried by an invisible river of acids, thereby compelling me to drink. The fine-grained tannins are polished, which extends the long, pure finish to greater effect. I will purchase a case (at least), having had the '94 proprietor select on 3 separate occasions, each time I was left slightly haunted by the lingering beauty and purity; the same future is obvious for this effort. Highly recommended, drink thru 2026, score: A |

In the mouth, beautifully balanced and a seamless texture. It gently dances on the palate with cherry fruit, baking spice, and floral notes. Solid finish. This has resolved and hit a pretty drinking window quite quickly. A- |

My notes are consistent - this wine continues to improve and tonight's showing was absolutely on point, with plenty of spice, fresh acidity and a noble, precise mouthfeel. Medium-bodied, with firm, fine tannins and a medium finish. It's pure, and honest, not a blockbuster, just quality Pinot juice. Most enjoyable. Drink thru 2016, 14,7%, score: A- |

This has lost a bit of its freshness, but the trade-off is more depth and richness. Considering the venue (lots of hungry, thirst people at Thanksgiving day dinner), the evolved result seemed to be just fine, the bottle quickly managing to get emptied. A very solid effort, one my favorite whites from this producer in the past decade. NO noticeable heat. Drink thru 2017, 14,7% abv, score: A- |
