A great reunion in Prescott, AZ, with friends George and Jim, both who appreciate great wine. I did not take notes. The wine was big with intense and rich fruit. It went well with pork tenderloin cooked by George and some of the best brussel sprouts I've ever tasted, cooked by Jim and George.. Blackberry, black currant, tar, black pepper and hints of licorice. The wine is drinking well now.

This was opened for a party, drank at room temp, what was probably low 70s. There was a good dollop of pepper in the aromatic this time, along with some steak sauce. Reminded me of Santa Lucia Highlands in that respect. My one nit was the alc signature popped through the aroma, which I believe could be eliminated with a cooler serving temp. Seemed ready to drink, too.

Light orange/red color, cherry, a little strawberry. A very light wine that is missing the complexity and terrior of an italian nebbiolo.

Sentimentality here, as well as peer pressure to let some of my bottles age, this prompted me to go what is nearly 4 years between bottles. This was my last 2007 and I remain fond of the vintage so I had assumed, and based on my prior note from 2011, that this wine would have the stay power to go this long, arguably longer. I opened this about 90 mins ago, let it breathe, which helped it fill in the fruit and texture. Classic Rosella's. Citrus, tar, dark plum and blackberry and teriyaki/jerky. The fruit is terrific here, tasting more opulent which for me is the vintage expression, yet there is acidity, also what for me is the 2007 vintage. Plenty of body here but not thick. After about 3 hours, this is a beauty. Dark, full of citrus and flush with fruit, some graphite, tar, dark chocolate. And then with one more day of slow ox, not much change but to say this is pretty well stuffed with color, flavor and depth. No fade in this yet, however this is a fruit centric wine that continues to carry acidity so my advice would be to open this now. I simply don't think aging this style and vintage of wine is going to improve it. It's there now, catch it while it all works. Delicious.

We went to El Parador, an excellent Mexican restaurant in NYC that also has the advantage of being only two blocks from the 34th street ramp up to the FDR Drive to watch the fireworks. I wanted something that would stand up to the inevitable Mole Poblano I was going to order, so I chose this, and it filled the bill quite well.

Pop and pour, except that it was a screw cap. Interesting palate difference between my wife and me (or it is "and I," I always forget this one). She had gazpacho and chicken in a creamy tomatillo sauce while I had stuffed roasted jalapenos and mole poblano. With somewhat lighter fare, she noticed the pepper backbone that we both always associate with Rosella Syrah. I had spicier food, and the pepper was nowhere to be found, but instead the wine was fruit driven, with a strong fruit component and some apparent (though not actual) sweetness from the fruit to balance off the spice in the food. Very fresh right out of the bottle but approachable nonetheless. Hard to say what the effect of the screw cap was. Did not tasxte like it was bottled last week, but still very primary and fresh.

I found the wine to be an outstanding and very enjoyable presentation of California syrah.

Took to a party, so no detailed notes. Blueberries, with a hint of citrus. Solid, but not mind-altering. May be in a dumb phase or may be headed downhill.

Not my style - too glycerol and thick. The nose smells nice, plummy fruit, brambles, and some wood. But besides the mouthfeel there's also a woody tannic element on the mid-palate that is not to my taste.

Opened with leftovers. This is a seriously stacked and concentrated bad girl, oozing with fruit and extraction, and it's working well on this syrah. Deep black fruits on the nose, very sweet and jammy, with blackberry, loganberry, lingonberry, black cherry, oak, and the beginnings of more mature plummy, anise, tarry notes. Long, long finish with some tannic bite still. This in some ways is still a baby, a jam bomb. This is by no means over Susan's Hill, and will continue to satisfy for several years. Highly enjoyable. 1 more left.
