Delicious nicely mature cab, with dark cherry, earth, cassis and glycerin, beautifully balanced. Fine tannins give way to long smooth finish. Drinking beautifully right out of the bottle.

Tasting 5 Red Wines at Premier Cru. The vineyard is near Heitz Marthas, and is the winery's first bottling and my second time tasting it this week. it had a rich, ripe sweet but not forward cabernet sauvignon nose with a hint of mint, concentrated in the mouth with berry fruit that featured hints of stems and mint, the finish showed enough tannins and acid among the cabernet flavors to go seven years, Should be near elegant at worst and elegant at best for the patient-kissing cousin to Dunn. My #2 cabernet.

The tale of two wines. Upon opening, it was very nice. Still plenty of freshness surrounding cassis, leather, dusty soil, and black cherry. After about 2 hours it became undrinkable due to brettanomyces. So, the first part of the wine was a 90, the latter an 80, and that's being generous.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (Rich & Dana's): Crimson color. Opens with red berry notes which quickly turned to sour dark fruit. Flavors of dark fruit, chocolate and currants. Guessed cab, but was way off on the age. 88+ pts.

From a D-Mag. The wine looked very young and it took an hour in the decanter to start to fully come around. Plenty of cassis/licorice to go with the blackberries. Some leather notes and a long finish. Smooth but still a young wine in this format.

4th Saturday group. This was still a tannic beast and not showing any visible signs of aging. Only fruit notes were a bit of plum. If these tannins haven't resolved by now, I wonder if they ever will. Least favorite wine of the night.

I don't know what happened to this winery but the wine was amazing. The nose and the sense of power was moving this along. Black cherry and earthy tones. I can't believe this wine is 19yrs old. It is still a baby and fantastic. I wish I could find a case of this because it truly was a rewarding cabernet. Great effort and wine.

This really surprised me. Cherry and a little vanilla on the nose. Integrated fruit, tannins - everything in balance after an hour in the glass. Two left - I'll drink them both sometime in the next year. Really beautiful wine.

A positive surprise. More mature/tertiary notes on the nose than on the palate. Wonderful ripe and sweet blackcurrant but plenty of balancing acidity and fine mellow tannins. Smokey and jammy notes reveals age. The ripe fruit lingers a very long time - impressive throughout. Drinking perfectly now but if you have plenty there is no rush.

If you like old cab, you'll love this. I should start by saying this will not wow the way an 87 Dunn Napa would. Its become very light, however it is beautifully balanced. The fruit was still there, though it did take 10 minutes to open up and started shutting down after an hour or so. On the other hand the hints of leather and tobacco, a touch of herbal and the tannin structure were all there in harmony. I'd drink what you have in the next 2 years or so, but what a great experience. So much less oaky than the mid-to-late 90s renditions of Oakford.

Deep, deep cherry. Decanted for three hours ahead of first taste. Five hours in started to get a bit of cocoa. Minerals on the nose and taste, light and consistent. A hint oF eucalypus. The wine is past it's prime and I knew that at time of purchase. Great value for me but I would suggest that if you have the 1997, drink now.

Drink now. Deep, deep purple. Decanted for 2.5 hours. Wine remained constant first to last glass over some four hours. Typical higher end style Napa Cab. I have found the Oakford late 1990's through 2000 to be very reliable.
