Breathed in glasses around an hour before serving. Violet core with a red rim. Raspberry, tea leaf & mocha nose. The palate begins w/straightforward red plum & blackberry, but savory elements emerge on the strong mid palate. Finely textured with high acidity & silky tannins. Showing excellent intensity. Terrific Syrah from a top producer.

Retail $55. Whoa. Whoa. The nose was not all that descript but there was certainly some dark berry fruit. On the palate rich fruit. That gets a whoa. Depth all the way through. Another Whoa. Finish? Whoa. One of the best Syrahs I have had. Outstanding plus. thedrunkencyclist.com

Big chunky red fruit. Not at all an elegant drink at the moment as it's still very rough. Good fruit though so will wait on the other bottles to smooth out with age.

I loved this wine on magnum. It is so in-the-zone, well balanced, complex, delicious to drink. Simply very good and right up there with the top Syrahs of the old world.

(Mother's Day dinner with H&M at Mistral) Great opener to a delicious meal. Dried straw hue with glints of green in the glass and an aroma of freshly mown hay, minerals and sea salt. Strikingly nuanced grassiness with tropical fruits and pit fruits on the palate, followed by a refreshing finish. Great texture, but occasionally seemed off balance acidity-wise, providing more of a bite in the finish than we like. Delicious, though. Our last bottle.

Full disclosure: I am not much a pinot noir fan, but even I thought this was pretty good. Translucent, light bodied. Lots of floral notes on the nose, violets. Strawberry on the palate, with a short finish. Smooth, balanced, integrated. No tannins anywhere in sight. I have to admit this is a nice wine for summer.

I'd been waiting on this, my last bottle, following others' reviews -- in mine the fruit was faded; probably should have had this last fall... suggest drinking up.

Best showing yet for this wine - I wish I had more. Even a touch better on the second night. Dark cherry, spice (cloves?), bandaids, a hint of cough syrup but this is an elegant, even restrained, wine. A long finish --- damn the bottle is gone. Bravo OJAI.

Friday Night Tasting in Toronto (VinT's Place): This was initially quite concerning with a quite a lot of dark very ripe fruit and a fair bit of alcohol, however after 2 hours of air it became more complex and rounded out: black olive, blackberry, dried black currants, tar, powdered sugar, pie crust and blueberry pie filling. Still not quite as restrained as the Wind Gap and with a slightly darker profile, but equally interesting and complex in my view. The palate has medium minus tannin and medium acid on the long dark finish. Nice wine. Will hold my next for a while yet.

Deep purple color leads to a nose of violet, blackberry and vanilla. Medium full body is well integrated wit some grilled meat flavors. Not as peppery as some syrahs but this is ok. Very tasty wine drinking at its peak. While I think this will hold for a few more years, I do not anticipate improvement with additional bottle age.

Decanted. Really hit its stride after about 45 minutes open. Nothing like what I remember from the tasting. Nice nose of gamey meat, olives, herbaceous/mild black pepper notes and some bnice dark red fruit. On the palate, more olive brine and the lightest touch of that iron-ore mineraity that I associate with St. Joseph. Nice acidity and medium+ bodied. Still fairly lightweight but a fairly serious tannic finish rounds things out. Drinking well now with a decant; this might improve some with short-term cellaring (mainly the tannin might soften).

I stand by my notes from October, 2014: What a fabulous tasting wine!!! Full of peppery tastes, fully developed, deep ruby color long legs, and a long lingering pleasant aftertaste. I wish I had 3 more cases instead of 3 more bottles. I would recommend this wine to anyone!!!

Not decanted, and didn't need any air to open, but would have been good to filter for sediment. This is perfectly mature and still has a few more good years left. It's a quiet giant; the age has mellowed it but there's still so much power. Tons of mint on the nose and palate, big jammy red cherry fruit profile, a bit on the hot side but not overdone. Very classy. Drink now-2017.

The aroma was very interesting and I found myself sitting and smelling the wine for quite sometime before I even tried it. it was very aromatic with wild strawberries, some herbs, a bit of forest tones. The wine had very mature fruit going towards jam but still very elegant. The wine was very nicely balanced. and the ending was lovely. A great wine!

I totally disagree with other tasting notes that this is past it's prime. Sadly, my last bottle but it is singing right now. Had it with a seared duck breast and duck fat fries. Just an incredible mature syrah. Huge fruit and smoky sweet. This is what makes keeping these such a pleasure.
