Still drinking well like my previous bottles. Smooth, rich, ripe, lots of black fruit. Good value.

Decanted for 3 plus hours, initially potent nose that reduced markably. It also lost its power though not its richness in the decanter, leaving it slighltly less interesting than I hoped for. Its very rare that a quality wine is better straight from the bottle but this could be the case with this one. Everything, taste, tannin and acidity softened, not unpleasant but I expected more. Possibly too sweet for my taste.

Massive nose: sweet, fruity, and alcoholic. Notes of brandy, vanilla, blackcurrant, oven smoke, and burnt spices. Palate is concentrated and sweet, but shows good acid and tannin. Flavours of blackcurrant, blueberry, rhubarb, anise, hibiscus, and violet, with strong notes of bitter spice: pepper, clove, cumin.

Medium intense nose with aromas of fudge, blackcurrants, butterscotch, fudge, anise seeds, light scorched wood, plums and a streak of coffee. Good depth and even though there is plenty of oak, there is also plenty of fruit for a decent balance.

Medium acidity, lots of fruit, but stays firmly (as always with Penfolds premium wines) on the dry side. There is some well integrated, polished tannins, just enough to give the wine a good back bone structure. Full bodied, high intensity and a long finish.

High quality, extremely well made. Lacks a bit of personality, but makes up for this in sheer perfection. Another impressive wine from Penfolds. Would keep this around for at least 5 years.

Very nice Ruby Colour. Penfolds style. Too plain, if not dull, showing its age with soften tannis.
Oak, Rich on nose. Not sure i should describe her as youthful or elegant
Fresh. blackberry favor. I must say i like more powerful wine.
Enjoy now.

I bought this wine in 2006 in Malaysia for about hkd$234, which sleeping in my Vintec for a good 9 year.
Extracted by Coravin. Colour is glossy and still dark with just a little bit brick at the rim. Start showing signs of maturity. Nose of complexity with slightly burn rubber, plump, herbs and licorice. The palate is round, full body and echo the nose. Good acidity at finish with around 20s aftertaste. Very good. Keep wanting more. At Hkd$234, what do you think?

Slightly darker pale yellow, no sign over aged. Surprisingly refreshing, yet a chablis feel, good amount of intense fruit, vanilla oak med intensity, nice minerals taste & feel, med to long finish. My opinion that its got some 2-3 years ahead as none of its characteristic seems faded. For C$25, and a wine with some age to it, its good in my books.

This wine has clearly already past it's peak but in a good way as a few of the btls we open offer some elegant clear juice. Medium ruby colour, Aromas of dried red fruit, very herbal, menthol but fresh and elegant. The palate is medium tannins and acidity, fresh, good and ready to drink.

Ruby red with slight bricking. Sediment so needed to decant.
Still heady aromas of dark berries, forest floor, medicinal, oak and clove.
Flavors repeat smell ..... dark berries, strawberry jam, forest floor, toast, black pepper and baking spices.
Overall, medium bodied with medium length to finish. Medium acidity. Nice wine , nearing the end of its drinking period.

Deep red color, opaque. Strong black fruit nose. The taste was a little disappointing - I was expecting a smoother richer taste as it is 10 years old. The flavor is a little flat and there is a lack of obvious fruit - I think this wine is past its best - contrary to the majority of posts. The taste is pleasant, but mild and below the price point expectation. It may be that before I got it it was stored poorly somewhere in the distribution chain - I bought it in 2012 - already 7 years old. I have had excellent St Henri's in the past.

on opening, i thought it was not going to make it. the cork broke, but there was no air leakage. it took 3 hours to come good after decanting, but it was then a brilliant balanced wine. It is definitely time to consume this one.

Medium bodied, ripe ruby fruit, lithe tannins, very primary. Not much going on here in the way of complexity. Drank with pizza and was still rather ordinary by Bin 128 standards.

What an impressive wine. Double decanted 2 hours before dinner and it was still opening up. Lovely bright colour, beautiful nose, soft grainy tannins. Plenty of lovely fruit on the front that mounts all the way to the lingering, long finish. This wine has years ahead of it. While I am not a current Penfolds purchaser, this wine proves that they knew how to do it for a great price.

Opaque crimson color. Meaty Shiraz nose of roasted beef, accented by darker aromas of shoe polish, damp peat moss, and charcoal. The palate has an entry that is broad, fruity and smooth, with a slightly oily midpalate. This perks up on the back of the tongue, finishing with the flavor of tart blackberries accented by a spicy tannic bite and a final hint of fresh mint leaves. Mature, though still lively, this is drinking well now and should continue to do so for another three years. My first St. Henri; the good Lord willing, it won't be my last.

5/13/2015 - Pancreatitis Does not like this wine: 84 points

An almost axiomatic wine of the Penfolds style. This bottle had a perfect cork. Dark ruby red. Not much of anything on the nose. Intense and overwhelming oak and astringent tannins which don't let much of anything else through. After one and a half hours in the glass there were some faint peaks of confection, Turkish delight, predominantly rose and a hint of violent, but drowned out by oak and tannin. No subtlety or complexity. After 13 years a dense and difficult monster where it's hard to see how the disparate elements will resolve themselves into something pleasurable. If I had another bottle left I probably wouldn't touch it until 2025?

The wine looks inky colored. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like cedar. It tastes like cedar. The body is full. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. Was bought with 5 star provenance, guaranteed bought direct from winery and cellared correctly all it's life. Still had a good 5-10 yrs left.

NobleRottersSydney - Penfolds prior to 2005 (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 13.5%} (Greg) Decanted at table. Only somewhat developed; tight nose is still dominated by woody, coconutty US oak. The palate is all raisiny cabernet, but also sullen and withdrawn. Would almost certainly have benefited from a longer decant time. Full-bodied, dry, highly tannic, with medium acid. Too much tannin? Seems backward for 16 years. Still, given the pedigree I’d trust this in the cellar; keep.

NobleRottersSydney - Penfolds prior to 2005 (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 13.5%} (Graeme) Double-decanted three hours prior. One of the few 707s not to say South Australia on the label: it does say Mt Barker but it’s the one in Western Australia. This was not unlike the 1990 bottles, but it smelt much more strongly of coconut and vanilla, along with the underlying current fruit. Big wine on the palate; full-bodied. Medium/high dusty tannins, lowish acid. Plenty of life left here though, and very much in the house style, with meaty cassis/currant flavours. Seems maybe a touch monolithic beside the 1990; less perfectly balanced, with that coconut oak sticking out a bit. Still, to complain of that is splitting hairs; this might miss the beguiling sweetness of the ’90, but I’d drink this with pleasure any day of the week.
