A wonderful effort from a star producer. Vibrant, refershing, yet powerful and impressive, the 2011 entry level wine from Carnasciale delivers as much as previously tasted vintages. For more details, please refer to my tasting note below.

Ripple and Ridonculous Wines (Ripple - Cleveland Park - Washington, DC): Napa-esque nose. Bold and bruising on the palate, a bit too toasty and oaky, but interesting spice, pepper and tobacco underneath. Just a bit too tough to contemplate at the moment. Not nearly as accessible as the other wines, so I moved on, probably deserves more time and attention

Tasted four different caberlots 11, 10, 8 and 03.

One day before the other three vintages. Masculin body with a lot of fruits dark cherries, cassis, no oxidation signs, begins to develop, alcohol well integrated, acidity refreshing, potential over the next 10 years, tannis noticeable but fine and ripe

Tasted four different caberlots 11, 10, 8 and 03.

it shows that the caberlot can age even in the hot year 2003, no really acidity lack, I think at his best now and for the next 5 years. Spica, cedar wood and still dark berries, balanced

93+. Floral, cherry nose, but if you swirl some gentle green note (some would say citrus) comes out. Silky fine on palate, carressing with good acidity. There is some unintegrated oak on the back palate, but not annoying. I tend to leave it in my mouth for quite some time before swallow. It reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald singing. On the 2nd day the wine seems to have grown a bit in size. Really interested to see how it will involve. Overpriced? Maybe. But it's a special one and I'd love to buy a bottle..

Un vinone, ma di grande finezza e complessità. Si sente la marcia in più e la fattura regale. Credo che valga il suo prezzo.
In prospettiva migliore del 2010.

This was a wine that i have looked forward to try out, but was also a bit nervous as it has high praycing.
The first evening the nose was really slamming into your face with so many different notes its impossible to tell them apart, on the tongue it was a disappointment as i mostly felt i was like tasting a Fernet-Branca that is what comes in as the closet, and tasted blind i am sure that would have been my choice.
Well next evening ( tonight saturday ) its becoming a little more layd back and there revealing itself a bit more into cherry notes-herbal notes...but i also have to say that i think it´s praised higher than whats really in there.
Dont missunderstand me, because its good and the nose and palate blend really nice together....but otherwise i am not that convinced.
Although this is my first try with this grape variety, so please take that into account.

Italian night @ Stappato (Enoteca Stappato, Leuven (Belgium)): Massive wine. Coffee, mocca, asian spice, black macerated fruit. Huge, impressive concentration, densely packed, almost clogged... I like my wines a little more transparant, elegant and focussed. But in it's modern, international, extracted niche, this is a very good wine.

Without the slightest doubt, the best Carnasciale I have ever tasted. This 2011 is so delicious and promises so much for the future, I am totally thrilled. The nose offers a profound array of complexity. Dark mature cherry, silky velvety dark fruit, red currant, led pencil, ballpoint pen, spice, cinnamon and dried flowers. The crescendo is just amazing. The palate adds to the first impressions with all components in place, perhaps tannins are a bit outspoken, but the acidity and fruit are both stunning. The overall impression is incredibly positive. Layer after layer of complexity, elegance and structure. Everything is in place here. The best Carnasciale I have ever tasted and I will get as much of this wine I can. No doubt. (score is 95+)

Brought to Thanksgiving dinner, where it made a hell of an impression. A massive bottle, but the contents were the real standout. Incredibly youthful, to be expected perhaps from a D-mag, but just a joy to drink. Antonio nailed this one. Huge extraction but not heavy or alcoholic, dense clear fruit backed up by fine, smooth tannins. Really great stuff.

This was great right upon opening, exhibiting a silky mouthfeel on top of a medium-full body. Then it started breaking down after sitting in the glass for more than 30 minutes, becoming increasingly acidic. The wine left in the bottle fared better, exhibiting notes of bell pepper, citrus and some smoke on the nose, and bell pepper and tart currants on the palate, as well as more (understated) bell pepper notes on the finish. After about 75 minutes the nose started developing a very intriguing smoky character which after some pondering I could identify as reminiscent of the bouquet of some more balanced Islay scotches. The peaty notes on the nose then got increasingly stronger, while the flavors on the palate became more and more hollow.
Quite fun and terribly quaffable overall, especially as a pop-and-pour, but pretty overpriced otherwise. Nevertheless, it may prove to turn into an interesting beast 8+ years down the line.

Can a wine be suave? This one seems so to me. . .albeit drunk early, it was enormously satisfying. Everything in place and in balance. Bodes very well for the Caberlot collected but not yet tried.

This wine is fantastic. It's unique for sure and not traditional Tuscan wine, yet it doesn't go over the top. The nose was perfect, floral yet lightly peppery or hint of spice. I have more so I'll update this with added details on the next go around. If you can find it, grab one!

Black cherry, baked strawberry, vanilla, and spicy minerals on the nose. Red fruited, floral, mineral palate with great acidity and delicate tannins. Reminiscent of a well-made Primitivo.
