Excellent! Opened spontaneously not providing time for a decant. Precise flavors of smokey black fruit, Kalamata olive brine, grilled steak, anise, and white pepper. Robust nose and long finish. Will continue to improve with time but in a great place now.

Pop and pour. No heaviness or OTT flavors. Very well balanced. Red/blue fruit. I might have been hard pressed to peg this as CA Syrah. Grenache is what I kept thinking. Delicious.

I'm happy Levenberg and Gary York won't drink this, because they are pig-headed.

Stunning, deep golden hay color. Full of tropical fruits (mango, peach, pineapple), toasty oak, baking spices and white flowers that last on the palate for 60+ seconds. So full bodied, unctuous, and waxy. The blend is 55% Roussane, 19% Chardonnay, 19% petit Manseng and 7% Viognier. The Viognier really gives a great lifted floral note, plus ripe apricots. At 15.5% a.b.v, it's massive, but so well integrated and balanced! This will be a long-lived white wine.

Opened this up with a group gathering to celebrate a 65th birthday and unfortunately it was only decanted for about 45 minutes. It was very closed/tight, muted nose, crushed stones, acid notes but the fruit was hiding. Not a crowd pleaser, everyone was expecting a lot more.
Luckily I took some home for day two; much more open, clean "pure" fruit, neither heavy or sweet, some meatiness, currants. Real long finish with nice tannin undernotes. The 93 is based on day 2
Will be interesting to follow how this develops over time.

Neon gold and heavy in the glass. Nose of white peach, butter, honey, grapefruit, yellow flowers, white tea, pear, orange, wabash apple, tangerine, flint, lemon, slate minerals, vanilla, Hi-C, heat and smoked pineapple. Full body, opulent and deftly balanced. Buttered apple pie, peach cobbler, lemon meringue, tangelo, green apple, honey, yellow flowers, lavender, chai tea, orangesicle, pear, kombucha, candy cane, white pepper and Asian spice on the palate. Thick, complex and mouth coating layers held together by unimaginable structure for any white this hot and overweight. Long decadent finish. Over-the-top white wine at its best! Consistently delivered across opening and temps. Salivating just thinking about it.

Mike Grammer comes to town (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): I true JOY to try this! AMAZING wine here! The age has mellowed this out…pretty and somewhat feminine now….tasty red liqueured berry fruits…kirsch, licorice, florals galore…lavender, white flowers…..classic Alban Vineyard tar still shows…white pepper spices…..balanced to perfection! Great mouthfeel and layered with complexity…..just flat out tasty!

Decanted for a couple of hours. The wine faired better on its own. Noticeably alcoholic and clumsy at dinner but improved as the night went on. Thick bodied but not syrupy like other years. Very smokey with extracted sweet berry notes. I would have guessed it was the Syrah.

HDH auction tasting at Tru; 5/15/2015-5/16/2015 (Chicago, IL): For such a high-octane wine, this actually isn't that bad. Tons of black fruit and black pepper, very ripe and sweet, surprisingly good acidity, and definitely some high-toned oak on the finish. Interestingly this doesn't finish hot -- very silky and smooth. Nonetheless, it's still just too big of a wine for my taste.

A clear reference wine for California Syrah, this is a stud. Big, balanced, bold and loaded with juicy, rich fruit and flavor. The wine coats your mouth and palate in all the right ways. There is probably no reason to age this, but I'm not sure you need to hurry to drink it. Still, I want to finish my remaining bottles by the time the wine hits its 20 birthday.

BOOM. This is sensational. Its a decade in and NO signs of this thing getting over the hill. Popped and poured. 2 hours in and its AMAZING. Smooth, nuanced yet big and powerful. Shame this was Manfred's last effort towards Pinot. Have had all his Pinot Noirs and they are fantastic representations of climate in which they were born. 95 tonight and easily could be higher.

John comes to town! (Amali (115 E 60th Street, NY, NY)): As with everything else Manfred does, his whites seem to be a bit polarizing. We brought this to a large offline gathering and one of the folks at the table was quick to note it was not his cup of tea (although declined to part with the remainder in his glass). For me, it was lovely. Playful wine, very interesting, constantly changing and evolving. A bit better when it was closer to room temp (we had it stored @ 58 degrees so not served the traditional white cold). Hard to capture all of the flavors but creamy and floral and slightly acidic and hints of lime and honey. Just beautiful. I say the 1992 Montelena and the 2003 Joseph Phelps were my WOTN since I skew red, but this could compete with them.

very special bottle. falling just short by a point perhaps of the best didier silexs ive had.

this is the total package. it has acidity that lifts the hefty fruit into a level of sublime pleasure. you can swirl this wine in your mouth for so long and never get tired of the ways it evolves and all the nuances. there are weird herbal things that are so enjoyable. it's sweet enough but never overtly so.

we decanted this in the fridge for over an hour and that was a great play. this wine really needs to open up to be tamed a little and let it come into its own.

Opened by Allred at Simo, and tasted alongside the Grenache. I loved the nose of the Syrah with black fruits, pepper and toasty oak. Similar palate, but I felt the Grenache had a better textural sense to me and I preferred the red fruit profile of that wine. Still outstanding, and like the Grenache, I would love to try it again down the road.

Opened by Allred at Simo. Tasted alongside the '12 SQN Syrah Stock, I preferred the palate of the Grenache to the Syrah. Loads of red fruits with spices and white pepper. This was already beautiful, but I'd love to see it with some age on it. 93+
