A bit boozy. Palate: Dark and flowing earth with dark fruits, blackberries, currants, and dark blue fruits. Tons of fruits. The boozy heat from the nose lingers on the finish. Thankfully this was served at the end, almost like a dessert. Needed some air for sure, or just wait for another handful of years before opening. 96+ Do you find this review helpful? Aroma / bouquet: De eerste indruk: zacht zoetig rood fruit, aardbeiencompote,. gemberkoek, verfijnd hout. Voor SQN een iets beperkte complexiteit. Smaak / Afdronk: Geweldig verleidelijke SQN, zoals gebruikelijk. Mondvullend en geconcentreerd, dik-sappig, maar ook in de mond iets minder complexiteit dan waarop ik bij SQN inmiddels reken. Serieus lange, romige afdronk. Algemeen / potentieel: 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Smaak / Afdronk: 16 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 90/100 Colour: Bright ruby red with a somewhat wider edge. Aroma / bouquet: The first impression: soft sweet red fruit, strawberry compote. gingerbread, refined wood. Slightly limited complexity for SQN. Taste / Aftertaste: Wonderfully seductive SQN, as usual. Mouth-filling and concentrated, thick and juicy, but also slightly less complexity in the mouth than I now expect from SQN. Very pleasing wine. Appeared to have a lot left in the tank, both fruit and structure. Consumed over two nights and seemed best or improved the second day. Not Coravined, just recorked. First time having this wine. Entirely dry but so rich. 30 second finish, at least, with acid predominant but not souring. Not much nose to speak of. Just delicious. Had with aglia oilo, made spicy. Aroma / bouquet: Zacht, verleidelijk en aangenaam bouquet. Atypisch voor rosé, zeer typisch voor een SQN rosé op basis van 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre en 5% Syrah. Een bouquet van bosaardbeitjes, zoete gemberkoek en zelfs iets van kaneel. Smaak / Afdronk: Ook in de mond is dit in vrijwel niets een rosé en in alles een SQN-rosé. Zachte zuurgraad, dik-sappig, geconcentreerd en mondvullend. Retronasale indrukken van aardbeiencompote, zoethout en kruidkoek. Serieus alcoholisch (15,4%), maar gezien de power van deze wijn voor mij niet storend. Algemeen / potentieel: Volgens velen vèr over de houdbaarheidsdatum, volgens mij nog enkele jaren UITSTEKEND drinkbaar en vooral 'genietbaar'. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 16 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 92/100 Colour: Light velvety orange-pink, strikingly dark for rosé, strikingly light for red wine. Aroma / bouquet: Soft, seductive and pleasant bouquet. Atypical for rosé, very typical for an SQN rosé based on 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Syrah. A bouquet of wild strawberries, sweet gingerbread and even some cinnamon. Taste / Aftertaste: Also in the mouth this is hardly a rosé in almost anything and an SQN rosé in everything. Soft acidity, thick-juicy, concentrated and mouth-filling. Retronasal impressions of strawberry compote, licorice and gingerbread. Seriously alcoholic (15.4%), but given the power of this wine not disturbing for me. Smokey blueberries with olive, spice, and a bit of pepper. Plenty of fruit left, but the acidity is front/center here creating a medium bodied wine and a tremendous mouthefeel. I honestly think that almost anyone would have a hard time not appreciating this wine. It’s not huge, it’s not AFWE….it’s just great. Smack dab in the zone and EXACTLY what I was looking for tonight. I absolutely love this wine. My love for the SQN whites started all the way back with the '97 Twisted & Bent. Obviously this is not the wine for everyone, but if you like the SQN whites, this vintage is above average, in my opinion and I'm very glad I sprung for 6 bottles. As noted below YMMV. Nose of ripe blackberry, smoked meat, dried herbs, anise and vanilla. Blackberry, gamey meat, dried herbs, mocha and anise on the palate. Very long, layered finish with excellent depth. Full bodied.
