2013 Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas

Paso Robles Red Rhone Blend more

Ripe red berries, minerals, fennel, and garrigue notes. Medium plus acid, well balanced, substantive. Somewhat restrained, mineral driven finish. Better than expected.

Strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry driven bouquet and palate. Lively, vibrant, and tasty. The finish came up just a bit short.

Struts its Rhone breeding. Color of sun-bleached hay with a lush dripping necklace. Lemon pith, minerals and fermenting grapes in the nose -- smells just like the TC tasting room near Paso Robles. Lemons and grapefruit with notions of roasted almonds on the palate. Light and lively and laden with minerals in the finish. From a seriously under-appreciated varietal. Everyone would be planting this grape if they knew how to make a wine like this. Let's call it what it is: lip-smacking. Perfect for summer.

Crisp, pleasant, nice, but not as complex as the Italian and Sardinian Vermentinos that I've had. Citrus, melon, minerality, herbal notes. Long-ish citrusy finish. It kinda grew on me with each sip.

Quite austere at first, but opened up with air and food. Enjoyable with a mildly spicy fish dish. Decent wine but TC's blends are far superior. Interesting to taste the variety on its own. Holding up well and should continue to do so.

We liked it better now than in the tasting room a couple months ago. The bright, vibrant, and somewhat deep color could fool someone into expending a very fruity, even "sweet" rose, but though this is a fuller bodied rose, it is quite dry and elegant and balanced; bright strawberry in the nose, hints of dried herbs and dusty earth, some mineral tones on the firmly acidic backbone. A really nice summer dinner rose'.

We always have high expectations for wines made by Tablas Creek. This reflects the active participation of the famed Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel in producing the family of Paso Robles' wines. Given that, we were a touch disappointed with this drop. Our rating means "Although not a “special” or “buy every year” example of The Noble Grape, we will happily sip this bottle with the guest who likely brought it to share at dinner or as a satisfying alternative to the higher-level wines that for many reasons should not be sipped everyday." Presented with a murky purple red. After two hours of breathing au naturel, i.e. in the bottle, we experienced a nose dark ripe, rustic fruit with a hint of red meat. Dark red currants with relatively nondescript tannins on the palate. Somewhat rough...perhaps we should have waited for it to age in the bottle? Slightly sour and unusual, fairly long finish.

Popped and poured. Brilliant golden yellow. Great legs. Distinct white Rhone nose. Bit of lanolin. Honeyed. Lovely balance of fruit and acid. Polished, sleek, with a fine texture. Nuanced fruit make this a winner if not a blockbuster. Very pretty wine. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

Wow. This was fantastic. Bought on release and cellared, afaik, this is the first time I have had a Panoplie. I read an article calling on FB naming Tablas Creek the #1 winery I the US, so I thought it was time to finally open one of these. http://www.thedailymeal.com/america-s-101-best-wineries
Ruby/purple in color. I believe this is an M/G/S blend. The nose is really deep. Earthy, dark cherries, leather, some raspberries, a hint of game. Not particularly delineated but very enticing. What a wonderful texture. Soft and oh, so, smooth. Yet, also powerful. Layers of cherries, dark cherries, spice and earth. Complex yet easy to drink. Delicious. Long finish. One of those wines where everyone stops to say "wow this is good after the first sip". Bottle was drained quickly. My only bottle from this vintage but I do have a couple of others. I can only hope they are this good.

This bottle was surely more interesting than the bottle I had in May. More fruit to the nose and more going on on the palate. Medium body, in fact quite light - but more complexity.

Would have picked rousanne in a blind test. The acidity kept this wine together. The body has gained some weight in a couple years. More full than I remember. White flower. Lemon. Tropical. CA needs more producers growing the right varietals in the right places with the right skills, just like tablas creek and this wine in central ca.

Deep burnished yellow; bright and clear. Good legs. Very shy nose; delicate with minerals and slightly creamy. Shows up more on the palate, where it is ethereally light, precise, focused and balanced. Mid palate the wine unfolds to show off fine rich flavors and concentration. Builds to a rich even powerful finish. 4-11-16-8: 89/100.

I also just opened the 2008 Esprit de Beaucastel the other day and paid a $30 corkage fee to have this at a DineLA restaurant week dinner at Craft in Century City and it was great with the quail main entree. The wine is most likely at its peak and will probably maintain for several years. The sommelier also loved it. On a Tablas Creek vertical tasting as discussed on their blog they indicated that the 2008 was their favorite of the older vintages. I notice that over 1300 people on cellar tracker are still holding with almost 800 consumed.

This is a terrific wine. It needs decanting for 2 or more hours to maximize flavor. Grenache dominant. I expect it will cellar for another 5 years.

Popped and poured. Quite light in color, but has good legs and also plenty of power and richness, too. Unabashed pure Grenache nose, jumping out of the glass on opening, but muting just a bit later. There is good fruit in the mouth, but doesn't rival the real flagship wines of this estate. Still, it stood up to carbonara pasta tonight, so it's no weak sister. As with all Tablas wines, the balance is impeccable. 4-11-15-8: 88/100.
