Decanted for two hours and followed for two more. Expressive nose of red cherries, earth, wet wood, new leather, and a hint of varnish/VA. Juicy cherries, earth, and a little oak on the palate. Tannins are quite firm and furry so it's hard to get a read on the palate at this point. Nice finish. There's something good here but it's so young and firm that it's hard to know for sure.

Still very primary. Dark garnet core, clear. Ripe-ish red berry aromas mainly, with faint soil and mineral notes. I first tasted this as a sample at last year's Vin Italy fair, and i think I liked it more then. Time will tell if this slims down (and comes together) or not, but I'm not going to get a case based on last night's bottle (which I was fully intending to do after checking it out once more); if there's any complexity to be had here, it's years away - though really, I don't see it. Additionally, the price has gone up about 40% in the local market in just a few vintages, which makes this a fair value as opposed to the tremendous bargain of years past. 13,0% abv. This one is for your friend that says he/she doesn't care for Italian wines - probably something there for you, too.

Slow-O 1 hr; served non-blind. I see no reason to hold, drink now.

VinItaly Day 4 (Verona, Italy): 140 year old vines!, 600m in elevation within Calderara Sottano vineyard; deep bright crimson; deep rose and sour cherry, some volcanic, you can smell the nobility; rich and full, floral, palate reminds me of a beautiful Nebbiolo with more minerality; great wine but I am not sure how many decades this has before peak, '06 I popped a year or so ago was still an infant.

100% Carricante; light yellow green; musky melon, strong chalky mineral, tons of character, crisp apple, lime/grapefruit pith, some malo and leesy richness; medium plus body, good focus and richness; like a grand cru Chablis; yum, probably best Italian white from trip.

Opened up considerably after around half an hour. Cherry, cola/sarsparilla and slight herbal notes on the nose; on the palate the wine presents nice acidity, moderate tannins and flavors to match its aromas. Less concentrated, for better or worse, than I remember prior vintages being. While Etna reds are often compared to Burgundies, this wine actually reminded me of a high-end Beaujolais in some ways.

Really think this wine has notable bottle variation. Tonight's bottle showed beautifully. It was irresistible. Cherry and plum on the nose. Fresh forest breeze. Lovely on the palate - red berries, muted marachino cherry. Showed much better than last bottle which I drank 6 months ago.

What a pleasant surprise. I've had some not very good Etnas lately and was counting on this to come through but it did. Nose is big with black cherry, menthol and dark spice. Palate is redolent of leather, spice, tartness that really keeps the big fruit completely controlled. Ends with an enduring tingly spiceness, which just barely include a little tannic quality. Really nice juice.

Basically undrinkable when I first opened it. High acid in the finish, totally dry without much fruit. However, I decanted it, and after several hours it opened up showing wild tart cherries predominant in the fruit, although it is limited relative to terroir (minerals) and lots of tannin in the finish. Best with food. I would say it is now at its peak or somewhat beyond as the fruit is fading.

Juicy on the palate with lovely red berries like cherries and wild strawberries. Still high on acidity and tannins but there's no problem drinking right now. I'll keep the rest of my bottles a few years before drinking for a smoother mouth-feel.

Young, bursting from the bottle flavors, bright, acidic, tart, red berries dueling with mineral notes; tannins and high alcohol very present, but not overly so, ie, this was eminently drinkable. Drunk shortly after opening @ cellar temperature, and stoppered after half bottle finished, to save for another day... to be continued.

Rated 1 on a scale of -1 to 3.

This is not at all costly, but it is poor. Wife dismissed it as a "grape-tainted-wine". I laughed, and agreed. Even if I drank it all, rather than pouring it down the drain. I mean, at the end of the day, after all, I'm not a barbarian :-)

But overly cherry aromas on a thin, overly acidic expression in a wine that cost almost nothing, was raised to the skies by some... At any rate, it performed no great show tonight. Tar and feathers 'R Us :-)

Length, nope.
Intensity, uhu, hardly, but . . . check
Concentration, really? . . . nope *WATERY*
