deep lemon yellow with hints of green tinges, lemon peel, hint of green apple, and wet stones, there is also a floral aroma dancing through it.Palate is dry with excellent acidity, long my only critisism would be that it could be a little bit more aromatic, in fact this wine is still young.

Quite nose, slight floral notes. Wonderful complex palate of pear and nuttiness. Medium length finish. Our host was concerned the wine would no longer be good; this is probably mature, but still has life.

I tend to agree with previous CT reviews that find this wine abit on the reserved or austere side, but that being said, it is delightful. Bright and crisp with firm acidity at its core, abundant, flinty minerality, petrol, some anise notes and some fairly delicate green and perhaps tropical fruit that's more of a backround note than a star. Quite nice. Opened considerably at about the 5 hour mark.

The best descriptors I can think of are "restrained" and "austere". Not sure that further cellar time will improve the experience here. Acidity and minerality and petrol but very little to no fruit, hollow. Somewhat disappointing for this producer and the price point.

Not too sure what to make of it, feels mature but still lacks complexity and intensity which should come from a well made mature wine, lots of lemon rind, grapefruit, bare hints of minerals, despite the acidity came across a bit flabby and unfocused in the mouth

Cork crumbled a little. Bright golden colour. A little bottle stink soon blew off. Subdued nose - honey, lemon. Maybe apricot. The palate still carries the flavours reasonably well. There's a sense of the acids that once were. Overall though, you feel the best years are now behind it.

Kelvin's Baby Shower (Burlamacco, Amoy Street, Singapore): Very nice, but not quite as good as the superb “standard” 1990 Frederic Emile I thought. This had an attractively sweet nose, with apricots and nectarines, red apples and lightly honeyed notes. The palate was off-dry rather than sweet, showing juicy lime and lemon notes on the attack wed to sweeter suggestions of stone fruit and apples on the midpalate and then a nice minerality on the finish. There was a lot of depth on the wine, all nicely integrated into a creamy package, but it bore its heft so effortlessly that it seemed almost weightless. I thought the slight sweetness actually threw off the wine's lovely poise and balance and distracted from its beautiful minerality ever so slightly. That aside, this was quality. Drinking nicely now, although I can see this getting better over the next decade or so.

Quite young still and a bit unpolished on the acidity front. Needs time , maybe another 5 years to step into it correct drinking window. Still in a way buttoned down and not showing much other than a light petrolly side on the nose, light citrus. Excellent mineral profile at least and so well structured. Needs time. 90 for now but with a lot of potential in our view.

Alsace Masterclass (The Progress, SF): Summary: Aromatic, botrytized (It’s especially acceptable to botrytize Pinot Gris, given it doesn’t have much aromatic varietal character). Sweet. This is good stuff. Score: Between 8.5 and 9.
-----------------------------
Full Sensory:

From Grand Cru Osterberg (clay-marl) - one of the vineyards (with Geisberg) in Trimbach’s Cuvee Frederic Emile.

Visual: High concentration, rich gold with reflections of copper and straw. (Botrytis contributes to color, along with oxidation. Also this is from 2000).

Nose: Strong saffron and wax (botrytis) with a hint of burnt firecracker (sulfites) and genmaicha (also a botrytis note). Honeyed. (GKruth: “like Sauternes without the oak”).

Palate: Apricot, saffron. Moderate acidity. Elevated alcohol.

Laterals:
Sauternes: has new oak
Vouvray: higher acid, no phenolic bitterness.
Tokaji: higher acid

Alsace Masterclass (The Progress, SF): Summary:
Varietally correct. Not complicated.
Score: Around 8.5
-------------
Visual:
Pale straw, light concentration.
Nose: Strong washed cheese-rind, maybe muenster. No botrytis, mostly neutral.
Palate: Feels nearly dry [4.5 g RS]. Weighty and nicely-textured, with elevated alcohol [13.5%]. Moderate acid, moderate minus phenolic bitterness. It’s balanced - more bitterness driven. Seems like a classic Pinot Gris.

Laterals:
-Pinot blanc: too extracted and weighty.
-Pinot Grigio: Too heavy alcohol, too aromatic.
-Albarino - not as aromatic as Albarino.
-Riesling: less aromatic than riesling, lower acid, and has phenolic bitterness.
-Smaragd Gruner? perhaps. No white pepper.
-Oregon Pinot Gris - Yes, you could confuse this, especially as this one isn’t that complex.

13.5% alc.
6.09 g/L TA
4.5 g/L RS
Fermented in stainless steel vats with no oak aging.
This is huge production - probably ~50k+ cases per year.

Date night at Blue Hill (Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Pocantico Hills, NY): In the glass, clear honey colored. On the nose, apricots, peach, and petrol, but the impression is much more sweet than dry. On the palate, however, this comes across as a kabinett, still quite dry, with a full dose of minerality and mouthfilling texture. Listed under dessert wines, but this would have found a much better home at the beginning of the meal. With oysters, this would have been amazing.

Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Minerally, stone nose, muted though overall, subtle floral. Some light fusil on the palate, light body, mineral, light lemon, lingering medium mineral finish. I enjoyed this, but it seemed very understated. 88(+?)pts.

Diesel, lush ripe appley flavours, medium-dry tending to medium. Tongue coating viscosity. I think what prevents it from rising above the basic level of excellence is lack of sufficient acidity and/or minerality to balance the rich textures present.
As I commented in my original note, I have had many better Emiles in the past, and expect to again in the future. Drink up this year.

Drinking essentially dry but wonderfully textured. Easy to pair at the table and didn't need the foie gras I ordered (as Jancis' note from a few years ago suggested). Medium golden color and a measured dose of petrol. Very integrated and stately. Riesling-y Riesling, which is to say it's a grand, baritone achievement which places less emphasis on the more fanciful individual expression that I usually see from the German bottlings. No disappointment, however. I believe this wine is at its zenith.
