Lemon, poached pear, apple, mild and discreet oak on the nose and palate. Good structure. Well balanced. And, a nice finish.

The most hedonistic and big of the set but also the most exotic and wildly perfumed. Its hard to express all that is going on with the nose. It's just crazy good.

Out of the set this was the one that to me offered the most finely knit, intensely structured wine. Not as linear as the Amphitheater, not as fat as the Bee, just deeply textured. Too lay down and amazing. As noted with the Amphitheater, use Burgundy glasses.

I just don't know what to say. It's lean yet almost stuffed to the bursting point with power. The finish is at least 60 seconds long and still shows no signs of dissipating. To lay down. Extremely amazing. And this is on day two. Used a burgundy glass last night and that helped the wine much more than a regular small bowl glass.

Really good. This has aged very well and the fruit has taken on more of a baked quality, which is balanced out by fully integrated oak, that adds a slight smokiness and rounds out the sharp acidity. There's also an underlying minerality that keeps the fruit in check. Glad that I saved some of these to age, now I just need to keep my hands off of the newer vintages.

Relatively dark gold color. Nose is light but with butterscotch and nut aromas. Nice long palate brings more butter and candy notes, but without being overly sweet.

The nose is quite luscious with earth tones, pineapple and lychee. The palate is interesting, with a very bright tannic backbone that carries pineapple, lychee, minerals and a slight touch of citrus. Let this warm in the glass a little and the aromas become much more clear and the mouthfeel thickens and becomes more complex.

Honeysuckle, lemon and pear with nice vein of acidity. Such good balance, excellent for a well made California Chardonnay.

Absolute beautiful rendition of Santa Cruz Chardonnay. Reserved nose of citrus peel, flint, chamomile, honeysuckle, and smoke. Explosive and rich on the palate. Unctuous flavors of orange, shaved ginger, lemon, and grapefruit pith. Paired with steamed Chilean sea bass with wilted greens in a lemon caper reduction. Simply marvelous! Reminds me of Aubert Ritchie at one third the price. Of course my local merchant was sold out when I returned 3 days after the initial purchase. Internet search forthcoming ...

While I'm not usually a fan of oaky Cali Chardonnays, I have to say that this one surprised me. There was still an abundance of oak here, but it was buffered by a brisk acidic core and firm minerality. There was good depth to the green fruit and a long finish. If I had tasted this blind, I suspect I would have possibly guessed 1er cru white burgundy.

Dinner Wines and a Teutonic Tasting; 5/7/2015-5/10/2015 (Various): Light medium gold color. PNP, drank several glasses over 2 hours with dinner at Alma. This was showing very well again indeed. There is a poise to this wine along with impeccable balance that I love. It opened continually over the first 30 to 45 minutes to reveal a nose that is brightly floral, green orchard fruits and brisk sea air minerals. The palate shows both restraint and depth with its caressing texture. There are wonderfully pure pear and green apple flavors with a bit of lemon chiffon. Couple that with the tangy acids, noticeable tannins and a judicious use of oak and the result is terrific. f I had more, I would look to drink these over the next few years. 93+ to 94pts.

A veritable fruit stand of flavor hits you right away, from pear to pineapple. Mild acid and a bit nutty which shows so much promise but the alcohol dries it all out ending in a whimper. So much more potential but not quite all there.

A beautiful balance of power and grace. Medium in body; pale yellow in color; nose of lemon and crushed rocks. Layers of pineapple, grapefruit, and apple, paired with nice, but not dominating, minerality and acidity that provide tremendous balance and energy. 14.6% alcohol. One of my favorite CA wineries for chardonnay.

This time, I didn't get the strong orange liqueur element on the nose that I got last January. This time more in in tune with my notes of 7/6/2014: "aromas and flavors of baked apple, poached pear, lemon, hints of orange liqueur, creme brulee and minerals. A little buttery in the mouth. Rich and intense fruit. Great balance; nice structure. A long finish." Wish I had more.
