2010 d'Arenberg Riesling The Noble Wrinkled

Clear, goldy rust, with white rim, wide and joined up tear moving quickly.
Clean, full intensity, with aromas of marmalade, honey, tinned oranges, ripe peaches.
Sweet, full bodied, full alcohol, med acidity, light tannins, complexity on the palette and the finish, further tastes of overripe pineapples, treacle, orange peel and Turkish Delights. Delightfully thick and a super long finish

Magnum Christmas Party 2014: Ribena, spice, floral and redcurrant aromas. The fruit is bold but I'm impressed by the acidity, it gives it surprising freshness and keeps the wine from feeling too full-throttle. Rather liked this!

Perhaps I got a great batch of this or my storage has been to its liking but we have truly loved this. Based upon the other reviews, I though perhaps I had paid too much for the 3 bottles that I bought. I can't say that as it has been a most remarkable Aussie Shiraz. The dark fruit, smoothness and balance have been excellent. Last bottle, maybe I just got lucky.

Decanted briefly. One of those wines with a great nose and a mediocre palate. The nose has reductive black cherry and black raspberry, eucalyptus, mint and chocolate, like a Thin Mint. But the palate is austere, dry, evolved, and volatile. Will try a long decant next time.

Through a tribella...
Nose is all bright cherry and vanilla, with a hint of earth in the background. Lots of tannins and bright acidity to compete with the raspberry and cherry flavors. Pretty decent overall, although I was hoping for a bit more.

Memorial Day cookout of grilled ribeyes and ahi tuna and 4 types of peppers to celebrate James' 31st birthday. Deep color. For me, this had the classic Aussie cab nose of cassis and vanilla. Rich and lush in the mouth with a kind of sweetness I've tasted in other vintages of CR. Good finish.

Decanted for 5 hours and an initially jammy nose more muted when served. There is a mix of black and red fruit, its dry but well bodied and has a kick in the finish. Its a very unMedoc Cab Sav though its does not lack subtlety. D'Arenberg was one of my favourite Australian wineries when visited in 2005 and they advised me to give this one ten years minimum, cork was ultra clean and I am impressed with its quality but I prefer ultra black fruit taste.

First nose is a whiff of something close to soft veggies at the end of a bin in your grandmas root cellar. On the palate, integrated tannins, smooth fruit classic, not anywhere near full maturity. The finish however is what gets to me - sharp acidic bite and some heat. Not my favorite.

Just a decent wine at a reasonable price. Not as sickly as some sweet wines but I would struggle with more than a glass. Keep chilled and drink in small quantities. Good QPR for those wanting to venture into sweet wines

2010 d'Arenberg Pinot Noir The Feral Fox

Adelaide Hills more

5/17/2015 - johnrm Likes this wine: 89 points

I first tried this a couple of years ago and found it a bit odd for a Pinot Noir. Didn't really understand it (or like it) then.
Coming back to it in 2015, the colour is typical pinot noir with a touch of brown at the edge. The nose is interesting with an overwhelming impression of cherry linctus and spice. The palate continues the 'linctus' impression at first followed by mainly cherry fruit - sour cherry with a touch of sweeter maraschino. The aftertaste is very long and overwhelmingly cherries - almost enhanced in the later stages. Very nice but not Pinot as I have come to know it. I will keep the other bottles and see how it develops.
Chester Osborne has taken us to a new place!

Not a huge amount to say about this, except these Stump Jump wines always seem to deliver more than expected for the price. This had a bit of barnyard on the nose, along with the red fruit. Pleasant simple palate, fruity with some acidity, and would be a worthy Cotes du Rhone. Nice.

Opened with dinner, the cork crumbled in a couple pieces. Definitely some bricking and oranging. Some corked notes on the nose, but there's plenty of delightful dusty, plum, porty, boozy, leather, mushroom, treacle, chocolate cake, vanilla notes to make this a very enjoyable, interesting olfactory experience. Flavors of fruit paste and leather, with decent sweetness and plenty of length. The corking continues through the finish, which mildly dectracts, but this is drinking well today - quite an enjoyable and mature wine.
