Black fruit, some herbaceous notes, a bit of smoke. This has probably developed to its best state, but it has many years of good drinking in front of it. |

With said, it was still very good with good fruit, a fading mid-palte and light tannins. The finish has a slight funk taste that we never detected before. We will drank our last bottle soon. |

The palate was dark berries, tobacco, leather and hints of wood which appeared in the moderately long finish. Lots of sediment in this bottle so I would suggest a decant or a soiree. |

There’s some lilac and sandalwood notes too. I think this bottle is a bit flawed. I get too much VA and some old wet t-shirt as well. The flavors seem muted. It came more alive after a few hours of air, but this felt too rustic for what this is supposed to be (new world and all new French oak, etc.). If it were Cahors, it could be right on. I don’t know what to think. I’ll have to give Achaval Ferrer another shot sometime. |
