2010 Arista Winery Pinot Noir Toboni Vineyard

Russian River Valley more

4/23/2024 - bdhanna Likes this wine: 92 points

My, oh my !! Tasty juice !! At peak !!
This is a balanced Pinot Noir that I consumed over two days. Cork saturated about half-way up after over a dozen years but easily removed. Deep ruby color with no oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of pomegranate and caramel, flavors of sweet cranberry, cherry, rhubarb, and forest floor with a pleasant medium to long finish. This wine really held in there and had not fallen apart on day two. Great fruit with firm acidity made into a very balanced Pinot Noir from the Taboni vineyard, a small 15-acre Pinot Noir vineyard near the intersection of Olivet Lane and River Road, in the heart of Russian River Valley. A beautifully sloped vineyard with great loamy clay and mineral soil planted to Dijon 115, 667, 777, and Pommard 5 clones. This Pinot Noir is a surprisingly age worthy wine and has more years of life left. I still have three more bottles of this vintage remaining in my cellar; I may open one in the next few months or so to verify my rating.

First time with this Pinot. Full body with deep dark hue with earth tones coming through on the nose. We’re fans of Arista Pinots and Harper’s Rest is right up there as one of their best.

2010 Arista Winery Pinot Noir Longbow

Russian River Valley more

4/21/2024 - bdhanna Likes this wine: 93 points

What a tasty surprise, this wine is tasting extremely good right now !! Luscious and at peak !!
The cork was nearly perfect after over a dozen years in the bottle, easily removed. This balanced Pinot Noir was consumed over two days. Deep ruby color with minor oxidation, clarity medium. Aromas of red raspberry and pomegranate, flavors of red fruit compote, rhubarb, and marine soil with a hint of forest floor and a medium to long finish. Popped and poured, but this wine really benefited from gentle oxygen since it was much more soft and integrated on day two and had not fallen apart. Longbow is a barrel selection, a handcrafted blend by the Arista winemaking team of the favorite barrels in the cellar from across all our Russian River Valley vineyards. Great fruit made into a very balanced Pinot Noir that has thrived in the test of time. This Pinot Noir is an age worthy wine and may have more years of life left. I still have one more bottle of this vintage remaining in my cellar. I will open soon to verify my rating.

Very good Pinot. Well balanced with strawberry, cola and some herbal notes. At 7 years, it's still drinking well and probably has a few years left depending on your taste preference.

On opening both nose and palate were quite tight. Initially, the fruit which reminds me of cranberry and orange zest was subdued with prominent ferrous minerality and some loam. With time and warming toward room temp, this filled out, in particular the fruit making it more balanced, at least for my palate. Med+acidty and medium tannins. Initially a 90 for me, but my score represents my impression from my tasting hours later. This deserves more time in the cellar, or at least some significant air before drinking.

Exotic spice box, cardamom, white pepper, fennel, cumin, even rose petal on nose. Spice continues on taste. Slight porcini and tarragon, long finish. Enjoy.

Similar to my prior note--I think the intensity was down a little and I probably preferred it fresher and younger--Lisa felt otherwise.

While there is plenty of tropical fruit here, there is also an admirable balance with mint and minerality...as a result, a very nice profile for pairing with the scallops served at Mikado.

Paired with a Thom Kha soup - this was nicely balanced between lemon citrus notes and rich tropical fruit. Drinking well now.

Sandalwood smoke, anise and big jammy fruit on the nose, full bodied with cherry and raspberry jam on the palette. Delicious yet dense for a pinot. Nice structure and balance, a bold wine, fruit forward, food friendly.

PnP - 30 min slow ox in glass. Effusive sweet cherry nose with a touch of earth. Lush palate with sweet cherry fruit, spices and just a touch of heat. Medium finish with some fine tannins remaining.
On day 2 a richer palate but showing a touch more heat. Sweet fruit still there. Very rich mid-palate but with a little more heat.
Overall a nice representation of RRV Pinot. Could have used a little less alcohol and a bit more acid.

This was delicious. Tight at first but after an hour in the bottle it really opened up. Velvety tannins and bursting with fruit. Can tell this is a well made wine. Would decant for 1-2 hours or hold for several years. So good I ordered some of the 2022 immediately after.
