But this is very nice, well balanced, and definitely Sangiovese-forward. Translucent garnet color, a touch of licorice and vanilla on the nose. Plenty of acidity, and cherry lozenge dominates the palate along with some mocha. The tannins are silky, so this is drinking well today. Good stuff, and a reminder that I haven't given enough attention to the wines of Umbria. |

2/29/2024 - huse Likes this wine: 94 pointsAn enormously concentrated Umbria wine (in all its aspects: color, bouquet and taste), a selection of the estates best Sagrantino grapes (100 percent). The wine spent 24 months in French oak barrels, followed by a further 8 months refinement in the bottle before release. It boasts a dense black-inky color (almost impenetrable, no visible signs of aging) with glass-staining legs. The complex nose is brimming with aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, dark chocolate and some hints of nutmeg and leather. The wonderfully balanced palate shows an opulent but extremely elegant wine with loads of ripe plum and black forest fruit, great depth, significant but succulent tannins and an excellent acid structure. Magnificent aftertaste. Absolutely great yet and should continue to drink well for the next five to six years. Nose is intense but pretty closed with blackberry, plum, cocoa, some herbs, leather, and maybe cedar, but even two days in it is pretty tight. Palate is more of the same dark fruit, earth, and herb, but it is flat. Medium acidity, intense tannins. Honestly just immature at the moment, it really needs some time to come into balance. |

Well integrated, open, and drinking great. All at a $16 price tag - crazy good QPR. Had with a homemade Ribollita in a snow storm. Could this be the best wine for the $ in Italy? |

Cigar box and tertiary notes, acidity holding it upright and tannins nearly gone. Last bottle here but I would pick up another in a heartbeat if storage conditions were assured. |
