Odd really. A tremendously narrow temperature for prime drinking. I can't remember a wine that changed so dramatically across maybe 5 degrees total range. It when from tight and mineral with tart citrus to balanced with nice pear to go with bees wax and floral notes with a touch of quinine and almond paste with a great texture to rather cidery. At its perfect temperature it was great. Only so-so off that. Really good acid zip and mineral zest means there is no rush and that it doesn't fall off a cliff, but certainly would have guessed dramatically different amophora components. Probably can drink over the next 5. Interesting to drink on its own, but over the course of a meal I image it'll be tough to pair.

PNP and enjoyed over several days; turbid ruby with purple highlights; nose of raspberry and herbal notes; moderate acidity with average mouthfeel; palate evolved and was temperature and time sensitive; raspberry, herbals, smoke, a touch of cocoa, pepper, even a little green pepper. Got the same initial effervescence that many experienced. Moderate tannins that were enjoyable. I liked this wine more with each glass and especially when warm. Looking forward to next bottle.

Light like a gamay, but complex and layered like good pinot noir can be. Serious wine. Cranberry, rasberry, thyme & fresh herb medley, touch of graphite... Lovely. Give it an hour of air and 20 minutes in the refrigerator

Decanted for 30 minutes and served with grilled salmon. Dark red/black color with little sign of age (slight meniscus around the rim) and did not throw sediment. On nose, iodine, dark fruits (black cherry / blackberry) and tobacco. On palate, similar flavor profile (dark fruits) with medium+ body, silky palate feel, high acidity & very long finish. This was a very enjoyable wine that I would buy again - as prior taster noted, this wine has some time left. 93-94 range and unfortunately my last bottle. My favorite domestic Syrah - probably (in a cool cellar) would go to 2020+ [edit] This was still going strong on night 3 - on night 2, swapped vacu-vin for cork and it didn't degrade overnight.

When I had this wine three years ago I was mighty impressed and found all sorts of telltale Syrah characteristics. With a moderate amount of age on it this particular bottle has settled way down--it took time and air to bring out subtle notes of leather and olive, and the wine remained remained gentle and reserved until the end. Although there was no "wow factor" of the sort that comes with some of my favorite Rhone wines, this was not a big fat "Californian-style" blob. Much less of the olives than the 6/20 note. Pleasantly low alcohol. Good.

Slightly different than my first bottle in that I had a nice fruit flavor coming this time and while the acidity is wonderful, it's not overdone. Warm summer evening and this wine was just perfect for that. More of a citrus version or maybe some unripe fruit. But still there and more full-bodied than I had expected it to be. Still, not overpowering and very good. Would buy again.

Anyone who says they would get this blind as a new world is a liar. Total chablis style. Leesy. Saline. Minerals. Oyster shells.. So acidic it almost Hurts. Not for acid reflux folks. Reminds me of a young piuze. No other CA producers are doing this style. Even the unoaked trend doesn't produce a single wine remotely close to this. The Watson is so close to this that I'm not sure that's not the smarter buy.

Tasting with Duncan Meyers of Arnot Roberts (Ordinaire): Sublime bouquet of charcoal and spice, bitter melon, cactus. An utterly moving and engagingly wild wine, deep with fruit and pepper and with the sorts of complexity that are naturally driven by a long season of slow, steady, fog-tempered ripening. Comes at you from multiple ends of multiple spectra.

Tasting with Duncan Meyers of Arnot Roberts (Ordinaire): Of the '09-'10-'11 Arnot-Roberts Fellom Ranch Cabs, this stands out for its touch of smoke on the bouquet and how it feels softer and ripe on the front but then firms up on the tail. A ripe and sweet wine against its stems. It's lusciously bitter like a dark chocolate truffle but also surprises with celery and other nuances and that surprising structure bringing up the rear. Best 2017-2021.

Tasting with Duncan Meyers of Arnot Roberts (Ordinaire): The 2010 is the most classic of the three ('09, '10, '11) and threads the needle with great balance but with less personality than the 2009.

The bouquet is immediately higher-toned and saltier than the 2009 but this is fresh, classic, and lively. Impeccably balanced and detailed, showing off the perfect vintage. Well-placed stems and whole clusters complement the spicy nose. More reliant on tannins for its structure than the '09. Still long in the finish, but that's where this lacks just a little something, devolving into light strawberries and alcohol; even a touch astringent. HOLD. Drink 2018-2025

Fellom Ranch is next to Montebello.

Tasting with Duncan Meyers of Arnot Roberts (Ordinaire): My favorite of a Fellom Ranch '09-'10-'11 vertical, this warm, dark, accessible, and just-perfectly-ripened wine introduces itself with a stunning bouquet of perfectly ripened berries and dark chocolate and then offers an unstoppable palate of deep, dark, persistent cabernet notes with inviting structure and plenty of backbone. Long, long sophisticated finish. Drink now through at least 2020.

Dusty aroma with elusive mushroom and berry notes. Sharp bright fruit on the palate, almost a hint of spritz, a bit thin on the mid-palate, strong acidic finish. One-dimensional. 50 + 15 + 15 + 7. Going to give it a second night. [Second night was no better ... I'm puzzled by the other ratings for this bottle. Maybe I have a bad one.]
