Hard to believe that the previous bottle I drank was six years ago. Anyway, seemed to be a bit better than before. Oddly, the fruit was a bit more pronounced. Moreover, the tannins were not as present. The wine was more integrated. Very nice bottle, particularly for 9 USD.

Muted nose of blackberries & spice with fresh loam. The palate follows the same, but more pronounced flavors, plus sandalwood and decent acidity and medium finish. Best bottle of the three.

Needs to wake up. But once aerated it is beautiful, bold, and full of life, cherries, raspberries, and hints of its oak container. Great body and finish

I've had this well stored a while, and figured being an Aglianico maybe it was entering its drinking window. But it looks like I am too late. Really no pleasure in this, and I'm honestly really pretty willing to find whatever good qualities a wine might bring even when there are aspects that are significantly lacking. But there just isn't much that is NOT lacking here. Tried over two nights.
Bricking orange rim with still dense garnet core. Considerable fine sediment. Nose is dominated by a dark low tone spiced oak, with organic decomposing earth tones, fennel, cardamon, raisin, dates. Medium- body with oak and acids overshadowing the faintly interesting tertiary earthy and black tea flavor profile. Still a bit of tannins, but fruit is gone, and some heat shows up on the finish. I have another, but do I really believe in magic?

Garnet color, medium bodied, drinking smoothly right now with tannins well integrated and light. Nose and taste centered on cherry and a bit of earth with more aggressive elements having faded a bit and integrated. Well balanced, enjoyable, and perfect with dishes like grilled pork or chicken that have a touch of spice.

This continues to be an excellent wine -- quite dry, but lots of fullness and body. Lovely with pasta sauce. Very much enjoyed!

I really love this wine. Dryness with body. Some sweetness. It’s got a lot going on. Remee and Alex didn’t love it with their pasta. Served with godfather sauce. I think it’s a very interesting wine.

Day 1: I thought this wine might be better with food, but red pepper hummus definitely didn't help. I wasn't picking up too much on the nose besides an initial rush of berry when I opened it and a little bit of plastic at first, and nothing else ever came through strongly enough for me to identify. I was afraid I might be picking up a hint of the dreaded wet cardboard/newspaper, but really it was more like dry newspaper, so not sure if it was a bad bottle or not. The taste was a little sour and lacking any kind of lushness or interest, but not undrinkable and seemed to be opening up a bit after an hour or so, so maybe it just needs to breathe for a while.

Day 2: I put some preservative gas on this and re-corked overnight and when I uncorked again the next day it was already slightly improved. Also seemed to pair better with 7 grain crackers than the hummus. After about 3 hours of the bottle sitting open I pick up some cherry cough drops and licorice on the nose and herbs and rocks and a little coffee-like bitterness on the palate. Still not very fruity and not particularly interesting to my taste, but definitely easier to drink. I would recommend decanting for several hours before drinking. Based on other reviews I've found online I'm still wondering whether this could be a bad bottle, but it could just be a difference in my tastes.

Day 3: I upped my rating from an 82 to an 85 after letting it sit overnight again. Lots of licorice now and even some ripe blackberry. Some tannins still present and a little bit of acidity but not anywhere near as acidic as the first night. I think I missed the peak by a little bit and it's on the downhill slope now, but it's a nice slope.

I got 4 bottles on WTSO, so I think I'll test one with the Vinturi at some point and age the other two for a while. I think it's a basically decent wine that's just too young to have itself straightened out yet.

Day 5: Nope, it's been open too long now. Vinegar-y. Down the drain goes the rest.

Similar note to last time (Jan. 2010), but didn't pick up the mint/herbal notes and farmyard scents were more subdued with cherry and some tartness more in the lead with noticeable earthy and even mineral/stone elements. The wine is a delight and a glass worth left in the bottle (suctioned) drank well a couple days later.

I liked this bottle better than the last. I still can't totally place it, but theres a very distinct aftertaste to these that I am not a huge fan of. It is really good up until then though.

Opened bottle, let sit opened for 2.5 hours. Nose is dark and rustic. Taste is bing cherries up front with a little acid and then the tannins take over. Definitely more "old world". OK QPR but the tannins make this hard to drink without food.

Though the tannins finish a bit rough and dry this is a solid, rustic wine. The nose shows dry forest and berries and some farm and tar scents. The wine is firm in the mouth and transitions the elements found in the nose to the palate. It seemed to open up and show better balance after about an hour. Great QPR.

Tasted on second day of being open. Nose is more muted than previous experience with this wine with a little tar and black cherries. Taste is dark earthy cherry with some pleasant acids in the mid palate to finish. A little bitter tannin finish. Think I like this more than my initial tasting.

Deep red. Initially very astringent. Only needed a few minutes to open up and soften. Moderate tannins with a medium finish. Excellent QPR. Good choice for an inexpensive weekday glass with dinner, on on its own.
