2006 Azienda Agricola Montevertine Le Pergole Torte Toscana IGT

Sangiovese more

5/23/2015 - jnewman77 Likes this wine: NR

This needs more time, but has outstanding potential. Initial pour shows really dark fruit with sweet cassis, black raspberry, and some floral hints. With air and a bit of warming it becomes more classic Sangiovese with rose petal, tar, and black cherry. The fruit remains a little darker than the regular Montevertine and there is definitely more depth and development potential. I think this wine is fantastic, but currently needs at least 4-5 more years and will probably be peaking in 8-10.

Crumbling cork. No seepage. Tasted over 3h.
Youthful colour; understated, elegant and austere flavour profile. Cherry and spice, smooth textured, good length.
A bit beguiling.

Decant and drink or hold until 2025.
12.5% abv

The 2011 Le Pergole Torte has a dark ruby core that moves to orange and light garnet reflections on the rim. Complex aromatics explode from the glass, boasting concentrated aromas of rose petals, tar, leather, dried leaves, slightly dried plum and black cherry. These vivacious notes are mimicked on the palate with incredible structure. The old vines produce a richness of fruit that is incredibly well integrated amidst the earth notes and herbal qualities. The body is rich and powerful, seducing its taster with every sip. Although this wine is made well enough to enjoy right now, I strongly urge you to cellar this wine for as long as you can. If you can tuck this bottle away for a while, you will be blown away by its beauty when you open it in a decade from now.

This had a nice full-bodied flavor. Good raspberry flavor, tannins were at a nice level. I've had chianti that's just as good for 1/4 the price, but this was also good.

Dark red color. Drank 1 glass over 15 minutes. This was very good, earthy, black raspberry, anise on the nose. The palate shows kirsch, licorice, raspberry liqueur, medium full body, fine tannins, spice.

Decanted for 3 hours. The nose had some bright cranberries and cinnamon. It's a medium body wine. The palate was round and smooth but it did not have the depth and complexity. I do not think the wine is too young to drink now. It's actually in a good drinking window. 2 hours of decanting is optimal.

Shows Bordeaux-like complexity and density with lovely notes of earthy black fruits, warm spices and smoky minerals. Balanced and nuanced and very drinkable now.

Heavily perfumed and intoxicating nose! This wine got better and better over the years. Sadly this was my last bottle. And it was the best. Complex, integrated and perfectly fitting the Spaghetti Puttanesca I enjoyed at home while watching Bayern against Port CL game.

Considering the brown edges I don't this this wine will evolve further. Drink until 2016.

I was surprised at how drinkable this was, young and energetic but not as heavy or as closed as I anticipated; and it continued to drink well for several days, without showing a trace of sourness or losing its fruit to tannins.

Rated 1 on a scale of -1 to 3.

Really enjoyed this. Very silky texture, very smooth on the palate, and notable freshness. Berry fruit on the palate is pure and fresh and nicely balanced. Young, but open and drinking well. At Neil's.

Nice wine. Perhaps a touch bloody tasting for my taste... Wish it were maybe a touch more elegant and showed a bit more finesse. I don't mean finessed as in glib. Just a bit more... Burgundian, perhaps? Still, a lovely wine. With a lovely inner mouth florals, but tied to sort of an iron, blood, and balsamic palate. Not balsamic in the sweet sense, but balsamic in that sort of heady reduced grape must sense.

Lovey cherry fruit that already shows hints of leathery earthiness, very silky in texture and feels very well balanced. The wine is nicely structured, graceful, and poised and opened nicely over four hours. Maybe not the most powerful or explosively complex version of Montevertine that I've tasted, but seems worthy of a spot in the cellar if you like this wine.

I feared the worst when I removed the capsule and discovered a leaky cork, and even more when I stuck my nose in the decanter. Luckily, when we drank the wine three hours later the musty aroma was gone, replaced with layers of strawberries, fall leaves, red cherries, toffee, and mushrooms. Not the most profound vintage of this great wine, but it stood head and shoulders above all other bottles on this night, as it would on most nights. Don't hold much longer. Rated 2 on a scale of -1 to 3.

’m no longer buying Montevertine but that’s no reason not to drink those I own. Fairly classic aged Chianti profile, dried cherry and black cherry with some saddle leather and rose notes. With some air it takes on a slight ashtray/oxidation note, drink up. B/B+
