9/3/2023 - ElAzul Likes this wine: 90 pointswe were eating al fresco at a local Italian restaurant on a warm Michigan evening recently and just wanted something red, fruity and accessible to go with a variety of dishes spanning veal marsala, bistecca, and shrimp scampi. Fruit nose of red cherry and on the palate the same cherry fruit with very soft tannins but enough acidity to not be sappy or flabby. We consumed one bottle and then half of another with the food and it actually was a decent match for the chocolate covered spumoni desserts. Next day I found the wine to have deepened in character, the tannin showing more and some herbal notes added to the fruit. Very reasonably priced. |

Comes across as a hair flat and lacking life at this point, maybe in an in-between stage at this point (or end of lifespan, but I really think it can go for another 5+ years...). 12.5%. Medium to medium- bodied. Tannins are very fine but still solid and lingering. Fairly long finish. Really a nice wine, great experience of medium bodied and low alcohol cabernet with tuscan characteristics. |

My evaluation: For me, scores on a "100-point scale" are misleading. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. This is notable+ when considering quality, age, and discount restaurant price. |

And I'm not a fan of Prosecco or celebrity-named bottles (yeah this is Andrea Bocelli), but have to admit this is definitely not run-of-the-mill prosecco--drier than usual with bold citrus and minerality, offers a lot more character than most of us associate with the breed. |
